He's a horrible shooter. Seriously, 37.2% as a 6'6 PG? Damn. Doesn't weigh any more than 180 or so pounds. Average length for his height And not a great athlete, especially not by NBA standards. Why in the world would we draft him?

He might be good for a team like Detroit that has a bunch of SGs masquerading as PGs, but for us, no thanks

I have to disagree here. MCW is a very good athlete even by NBA standards. And, despite his numbers hes not a horrible shooter, what he is - is in an slump. He has been a good shooter his entire career and is only now struggling but this is not the norm. He has a textbook jumper as well, more than likely- MCW percentages will continue to rise all season as he shoots himself out of the slump.

I do agree that he's not a good fit for Char, If I had to guess Id say that your team needs a Scoring SG and/or a halfway decent bigman. If I were in charge of the Bobcats- my bigboard would look like

1)Shabazz
2)Len
3)Mclemore
4)Noel
5) Zeller

We will get Portland's pick unless they decide to go into the tank all of a sudden. Different mocks have us getting McAdoo with that pick and I am fine with that and whoever we get with our own pick.

Right now my draft board for the two picks is like this:

Our Pick

1. Shabazz
2. McLemore
3. Zeller
4. Noel
5. Len ( I was talking noise about MCW leapfrogging into my top 5. )

Portland Pick

1. Archie Goodwin
2. Mason Plumley
3. Anthony Bennett
4. Marcus Smart
5. Alex Poythress

And at #6 is the second coming of Monta Ellis, Mr. CJ McCollum. What do you guys think of him?

he said he wants to develop into a perimeter player, which would be good for him but just okay for us

yeah but drommond developing perimeter game wouldn't make him any shorter, or davis. if this guy became a perimeter player, he's a normal SF

McCollum is legit. Cold-blooded scorer. Be an awful small backcourt with Kemba though.

I think my list is something like:
Our pick:
1. Shabazz Muhamad
2. Nerlens Noel
3. Michael Carter-Williams
4. Ben McLemore
5. Alex Poythress

PDX pick:
1. Archie Goodwin
2. Dario Saric
3. James McAdoo
4. Willie Cauley-Stein

I'm more and more sold on MCW. A 6'6'' true point isn't something to sneeze at and I think he and Kemba would be fine together b/c he can guard 2's and defer to Kemba on offense. I absolutely want us to draft a player with good size at his position for once.

Archie surely rises and maybe McAdoo as well.

Carter-Williams seems like the type to drop imo, FO's will be divided on him, same for Bennett as great as they've been.

I would be sold on Bennett in my top five if he wasn't so short. I really like his game. I remember another 6'7ish Running Rebel who had a pretty good career in Charlotte, but eventually had to move out to the wing. With MKG locked in as our three of the future I really want our four to have some size. No way I leave him on the board though if he was to fall to us at twelve.

I'd agree with you if the Hornets brought home any championships. :-? Definitely agree with wanting a 4 with size but if beggars can't be choosers...

Anyway, I watched the UCLA vs Cal game last night. Muhammad had a horrid game and still ended up getting 16 and 6 and going 2-4 from 3 (big 3's too).

The Good: Moves well w/o the ball. Hangs around the rim for 2nd chance pts. Good form on the shot and looks clutch. Not only looks to have a post game but often posts up his man. Looks like he can score from just about anywhere on the floor, lots of offensive tricks. Decent rebounder.

The Bad: Mediocre defender, poor lateral quickness. Tendency to force shots. Decent athlete but won't be invited to any dunk contests anytime soon.

The Strange: Jumped for ball at the tip - and won(!)

The 1st half he barely saw the ball, UCLA plays a lot of freshmen and there was a lot of "calling his own number" going on (especially the Wear twins and Jordan Adams). So when he did get it, he forced a couple of shots and got caught by help defenders. The 2nd half, UCLA did a better job of getting him touches, he found a rhythm and buried some big 3's to help blowout Cal. I might get flamed for this, but he reminds me of a smaller Carmelo Anthony. He just has that bully ball mindset and ability to get a shot off anywhere. He probably needs to work on his handles but he played off the ball most of the game so it's hard to get a feel for how good/bad they are. Being a lefty helps make up for his okay size/athleticism, makes him more difficult to guard.

That's the main thing I noticed about Shabazz. He's operated mostly as an off-the-ball player who moved to open spots on the floor to get garbage buckets. He doesn't really seem to call his own number and command the offense. Can't tell if that because his teamates don't want to give him the ball or if he doesn't have the ball handling ability to be an ISO player, but it makes me nervous and tells a little about the seemingly silly comparison to MKG.

Better offensive weapon, obviously, but I think his 3PT % isn't quite telling of his true shooting ability as he's only a mediocre FT shooter. That number will likely fall, whether in college or the NBA

Yeah, that MKG comparison is laughable.

I'm attributing him playing off the ball to his joining the team late due to injury/NCAA suspension and they're trying to work him into offense/shape. Something to keep an eye on b/c if he doesn't have the handles to play 2 than his stock drops considerably in my eyes.

How does his passing look?

I think that even if he is the kind of guy who has plays run for him that he'd still be a fit on this team, because Kemba clearly doesn't have problems getting his own shot and MKG has a decent post up game and can do some slashing and ISO, something to watch in his development. In terms of dependable scorers down the stretch you need a post up, an iso, and a curl/screen type guy. MKG isn't really a curling type catch and shoot guy and Henderson would be moved/gone if we took shabazz

Almost nonexistent up to this point. As we've already talked about a little bit, he plays almost exclusively off the ball. I've only seen him play twice, but I've yet to see him really initiate the offense and/or consistently look to ISO his man.

He only has two multiple assist games (of 2 and 4) and has a season average of a whopping 0.8

I hate to bring him back into a comparison, but this is part of why I prefer McLemore. I've seen him play as a pseudo-PG for Kansas and I've seen him consistently ISO his man to either hand. His better athleticism, defense, and shooting (at least in my opinion) just further his cause for me.

Shabazz still has plenty of time to show those other skills though

workouts will help flesh out whether he has an ISO game, when he isn't trying to fit a team

This is shaping up to be and perceived as such a weak draft (ala 2006) that I have no doubt at all we will win the lottery.

fine by me - even in a down year the top pick is worth having. if only to wheel and deal. would be added pressure on the FO to nail the pick if they keep it, though. luckily, they have a much better track record of drafting useful players in the past couple of drafts.

I'm watching Alex Len right now and he is very impressive and skilled for a 7'1" to be able to make constested fading jump shots to the off hand in the post. He is definitely worthy of a top 5 pick. He reminds me of Nikola Vucevic but with more length and a better shot blocker. The Maryland strength and conditioning coaches got him eating 6000+ calories a day to gain weight. If Len is raw talent then Biyombo must be unthawed.
