What was your impression of Jorts tonight?
I thought after a rough 1st half, he played better in the 2nd.

The effort is there and you could see him really trying on defense. There's also one PNR play with James, and he rolled to the basket quite nicely, Id like to see that more, and by the time his shots are falling, he could be a good role player for us. I'd say more playing time so we could see if LeBron would make him better.

@EthanJSkolnick
I'm all for giving him more time. I think his hustle and energy could be good for us. I don't expect Moses Malone-lite or anything, but give the man some run. It's not as if our post rotation is beyond reproach.
Josh Harrellson found out he would be active 37 minutes prior to tip. "I was about to hop in the shower and put my suit on."

He wasn't great but there's obviously no way you can judge a player after his first significant minutes all season.
I think he can be a rotation player for us.

That three point shot that hit the side of the backboard was embarrassing. No professional basketball player should ever do that. Not even if your name is Shaq.

He was attempting the nearly impossible to execute, in-game, ball off the side of the backboard, self alley-oop. Had he managed to pull it off, our great-grand kids would have been talking about it.

Obviously. It's a shame the rest of these n00bs didn't realize that.

You can't judge a player based on one game. I hope he'll be active and playing for a few games now to see what he really can deliver for us.

He looked a bit lost out there but I was very glad he was out there in general. I want some more Jorts; it will be another wrinkle to our offense.

He could use more burn, but I don't think he's very good defending the pnr. He actually obstructed our guards a few times on his hedge. I know Cole was mad at him after one play where he couldn't get around Jorts and his man drove to the rim. He needs more work, but I'm fine with playing him. PEACE.

Way too soon to say if he could help.
I will say that considering our other options for those minutes We should definitely give him plenty of chances. and i mean PLENTY.

Re: What was your impression of Jorts tonight?
After playing 10 total minutes previously during the regular season and being held out of the previous 20 games, backup power forward Josh Harrellson said he was surprised by his 17 minutes, 47 seconds against the Bucks.
He said he found out he would be active 37 minutes before tipoff.
"I wasn't even dressed," he said. "I was about to hop in the shower, put my suit on and they said U.D. wasn't dressing, so I was like, 'Oh no.' "
The offseason free-agent acquisition shot 2 of 5 for five points with two rebounds, missing all three of his trademark 3-point attempts.
"I didn't expect to play 18 minutes at all," he said. "I did a lot of conditioning before the game. I wasn't mentally focused to go in there and do what I did. My jumper didn't fall, but I think I played some defense. I think I played hard."
He said it was one of the first times he had played alongside LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Wade, usually playing opposite them in practice.
"And a couple of times I found myself with the ball, 'What do I want to do? Where's LeBron?' he said. "I was trying to find the guys to give it to instead of just playing basketball. I just wasn't mentally in the game."
Does anyone think that's the smart way to build confidence in a young player by puting him in a position to succeed? because it sure looks like a panic move and putting him in a position to fail to me.

It's just the old Heat way of destroying your confidence when you are young so you can be useful in the future.

Both. Heat treats young dudes bad but the ones that are tough enough end up sticking around forever and the Godfather and his Consigileri will call them up and explain to them how useful they are to the family and they'll get their crap together.
He'll be fine, either they find him useful or they'll get rid of him. He's 6'9, he has some range, he hustles hard. He will never ever be the defender the Heat defense favors - the long lanky athletic guy that can cover the width of the half court. It's pretty much useless trying to get him to be that, same with Dexter Pittman...him and Jorts are just Heat stashing the big boys in case of Dwight Howard, Demarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe etc.
When those guys are in the game, just put them in the paint - you are already killing your defense with a bunch of nonathletic shooters. Put Cole in the game and D up.
Jorts needs to be Kevin Love super light diet artificial sweetner Kevin Love - Rebound and Putbacks, shoot 3s, play decent to above average post D.

Jorts didn't look the part. He didn't show much athletic ability or skill. He has a jumper but I would take Joel's D over Jorts jumper and each of them are terrible at all the other skills. I want a Big man that can catch and defend.

So Haslem is some kind of great Athlete now? i would laugh if it was'nt sad. he's a smaller, weaker, even slower version of Jorts, with a worse jumpshot.
Give Jorts 10 stright games of 15-20 minutes a night, if he doesn't DOUBLE Haslem's produdtion in PPG and BPG and also rebounds better, i'll never mention his name again.
Haslem per36 stats :
7.6 points on 49% shooting,
9.3 rebounds (just 1.9 offensive),
0.4 blocks,
4.2 fouls.

We don't know how far in advance Spo found out about UD being inactive. It could be something that was a gametime decision, in which case the activation would be gametime as well. Jorts just has to be prepared. It's part of what made House and JJ so great. They're always prepared, rain or shine.
That said, he's young, and he'll learn. Admitting the problem is a good start, actually. I expect him to take the proper steps to make sure he's ready for when his number is called next. I give him credit for hustling regardless. He did indeed look lost out there, but he played hard. Sometimes, I guess that's all you can ask for. PEACE.

Re: What was your impression of Jorts tonight?
Another fun stat about Jorts and UD that just blows my mind :
Jorts last year's PER (AS A ROOKIE) - 13.7
Haslem's PER in 2010-2011 : 12.7
Haslem's PER in 2011-2012 : 10.9
Haslem's PER in 2012-2013 : 8.1
So. Rookies tend to do better in their second year going forward, and UD seem to do worse as he's geting slower and older every year.
Add the fact that Jorts also has a better jumper, and more size (whice wee need) and is a better defender at this point, and it's quite clear why Jorts never gets on the court and Haslem is getting almost 20 minutes a night.
Wait, what?!?
