Rudy Gay Available?

It would save the team a lot of money if he was dealt and their offense peaked early and now they are struggling a little bit. They're good enough to make a run with this team but maybe a shake-up is needed to keep the assets.

What do you guys think?

I'm in the middle of making a painting of Rudy Gay currently so I definitely have mixed emtions. But I looked at his stats this season closely and he's been dragging. I would hate to see him go but it is a business. My condition is it has to be a smart basketball move + cost cutting. he's too good a player and way too much upside to just dump for the salary tax. And we've come too far to take a step backwards now.

Philly will offer anyone except for Jrue Holiday and Bynum for Him.

We have Dorell Wright and Nick Young who are expiring contracts. Jason Richardson 2 years left and still has fuel in the tanks. Thad Young is having a super efficient solid 14/7 season. Evan Turner is having a really solid allaround season and proving why he was 2nd overall pick in 2010 draft. We have young bigs Spencer Hawes, Lavoy Allen and Arnett Moultries all on great contracts as well.

Preface - I don't want to see Rudy traded.

That said, if he has to go, Philly's one of my favorite options for a trading partner. I'd do Rudy for Thad and Dorrell in a heartbeat.

Philly offers Dorell Wright and Nick Youngs expiring contracts along with Jason Richardson. Possibly include a future 1st as well if need be.

Grizzlies gains future cap flexibilities, depth and role playing scorers/ shooters who can replace Rudy Gays production. Memphis is instantly a better deeper team.

None of the deals Zach mentioned excited me in the least. I guess part of it is I value him more than Zach does and would therefore expect more and secondly I fail to see how much of an albatross Rudy's salary actually is.

My preferred trade partners are Charlotte (MKG, Diop, & Henderson) for (Rudy & Ellington)

Toronto (Calderon & Derozan) for (Rudy & Selby)

Denver (Gallinari, Chandler, & Hamilton) for (Rudy & Ellington)

^ I guess I and whoever else sided with me this summer are looking pretty smart then. (with a Gay for MKG swap)

DeRozan is poor defensively and he can't shoot. Gallo does not fit our style defensively. And, as much as I love MKG, idk if we should trade for him with no one to create his own shot on the roster. Plus, to make the salaries work, I'm sure we could do a three team and add a 1 on 1 breakdown player to couple with MKG as part of the package.

I do want to mention that I don't like how our organization is handling this. This is very poorly timed after the passing of Gay's grandmother. The last thing in the world he wants to hear is that he is on the trading block for a team that he has worked hard for since he began playing in the league.

Rudy for Monta Ellis/Tobias Harris:

Gives us the go-to perimeter scorer we desperately need to inject some iron into our anemic offense. Also gets us under the tax threshold.

I had hoped that with the new ownership we would be done with having to make basketball decisions based upon the finances.

I would much rather trade Z-Bo but everyone seems to think trading Rudy is the best move.

Some C's fans (me included) would think about dealing Pierce for Rudy- my sense is that Pierce can still score in the half-court better than anyone else who's come up in this thread, has the veteran experience for a deep playoff run, and has just one season on his contract after this, with a buy-out option this summer..

pistons fan. does prince something built around tayshaun prince and expirings make as much sense to you guys as it does to us? i feel he would be the closest to the effectiveness of gay while shedding a whole heap of salary. we have maggette on 10mil expiring, maxiell on 5mil expiring and bynum/daye on about 3.5mil each expiring. singler and jerebko are on cheap deals who might be attractive. anyway, heres what i was thinking:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=bg6de9e

id be reluctant to offer this but would probably do so: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=a86yjhm

What do you think of this kind on trade ?
Lakers : Gay ; Diaw
Spurs : Pau Gasol
Memphis : Jackson ; Neal ; 1st pick from LA ; 1st pick from SA

not a sexy trade, but it put you under the luxury tax this year, save you a lot of money on the next 3 year, give you 2 first pick, and Neal could be really usefull for you.

No to the Spurs and a very big HELL NO to the Lakers,

Furthermore, if the Lakers even considered trading Pau to San Antonio why not house the Championship trophy in SA and let every other team just visit it, because that is what that deal would mean.

What are you guys looking for? A cheaper, more productive SF on a shorter deal? A Deng/Kirilenko like role player?

1. To get under the luxury tax by clearing ~4 million in salary this year;
2. Remain competitive in the here-and-now
