Andy Reid to Coach Kansas City

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Jan 4, 2013 5:20 pm

Chiefs agreed to terms with Andy Reid on a five-year contract that make him their head coach with personnel responsibilities yet to be clarified.
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer and NFL Network's Steve Wyche confirm the deal has been finalized. Although early speculation had ex-Browns GM Tom Heckert joining Reid in Kansas City, he's now expected to bring in Packers director of operations John Dorsey to run scouting and the draft. Reid will likely maintain personnel control in a manner similar to Bill Belichick, Mike Shanahan, Pete Carroll, and Jeff Fisher. Ex-Eagles DC Juan Castillo is expected to be hired as OL coach while Pat Shurmur and Brad Childress are candidates for offensive coordinator. The Chiefs complied with the NFL's Rooney Rule by interviewing Falcons ST coach Keith Armstrong.

"Big Red" indeed...

Even though I think he's bad and stubborn as hell on game day (play calling, in game adjustments, clock management etc) I think he's a really good coach/football mind every other day, which is the reason he managed to keep the Eagles more or less relevant for over a decade IMO.

Assuming he isn't mentally burnt out on football (which isn't an easy assumption to make given some of his decisions in his last couple of seasons with Philly) I think KC is getting a good coach and personnel dude to turn them around.

Great move by the Chiefs, if he can turn that offense around the Chiefs could be relevant again and its not like there isn't talent on that roster.

I agree..it is a good fit..i have never been a huge fan of reid. But i feel he will bring the stability needed to help the talent on the Chiefs roster flourish.

I think Reid is an awful playcaller, and I think he's going to run the Chiefs' offense into the ground just like he did for the Eagles. In Philly, he gave Vick the ball 35+ times per game behind a bad offensive line rather than allowing his top 5 RB work his magic. Even after the numerous injuries that Vick and Foles had, he was stubborn enough to continue giving the ball to them. Now that he has Quinn in KC, it's going to be just the same. He won't give the ball to Charles or Hillis enough.

He'll be gone in a few years.

I'm not being negative without reason. The Eagles could've been a wildcard team the past few years if not for his stubbornness with Vick and inability to call plays.

He couldn't win a Super Bowl with some ultra talented Philly teams. I don't see him winning one with KC.

Running back is working with the same offensive line.

He's a great coach. I'm glad he's as far away from the NFC East as possible(though the NFC East does play the AFC West next year). He'll improve the Chiefs big time. I'm not saying they'll win the Super Bowl or anything, but they'll be relevant sooner rather then later.

Gino Smith would be a great pick for him to start his legacy in KC

Lots of variables involved. His inability to win a Super Bowl with the Eagles doesn't guarantee that he'll fail with the Chiefs. A lot can happen from here no out. Imagine if the NFL never gave Belichick another chance after his awful stint with the Browns.

Considering how great of a quarterback Brady is, it's going to be virtually impossible to find someone as good as he is. However, there are more than one way to win a championship. The Ravens won with an average quarterback a dozen years ago. It's not impossible for the Chiefs to do well.
