The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Meh. I mean, signing another teams discards worked out with Carroll but I doubt this guy ever sticks on a team very long.

Re: The Rockets waived Machado - do it KOC!
all we do is complain that we don't have a PG, and here we are with a chance to get one who will cost next to nothing and actually fill a need since our starting PG is hurt. i'm not saying that we get him and start him right away, but this is a guy many of us wanted the jazz to draft and now he is available. we can get him and play him spot minutes, and use what's left of this season to evaluate if he is worth a longer commitment. not only our 1st PG is injured and has an expiring deal (and he also sucks as a PG), our 2nd and 3rd string PGs are also expiring and they are old. no reason not to go for it.

I don't complain about it. I figure it's one of those easier said than done things. I don't think it's a terrible idea, but of all the cheap players out there I see no reason to say this is the guy who needs to be signed.

Re: The Rockets waived Machado - do it KOC!
i'm not saying he is the answer to our problems, but if we are looking at the position that he plays - it is a position where all of our current players are on expiring contracts. one is hurt and sucks as a pg and the others are old. the good part here is that we risk NOTHING, and we give up NOTHING. if you look at the other cheap players out there - i don't know who you can get and who do you mean exactly, but if they play for another team you still need to give up something for them. not in this case.
and regarding the easier said than done thing - that's usually the case. but here we are talking about a waived player who is not owned by any team and is not under contract. he needs to clear waivers and that's it. in this case, it is the easiest way you can ask for in the NBA to get a player. you are not dependent on anyone else but yourself.

I could see the jazz picking him up since they like to have three PGs on the roster. But he would just be insurance against Tinsley or Watson getting hurt.

The Jazz won't sign anyone until they clear some roster spots. Currently at 15 when you include murphy. They'll sign another guy if they really need him but the jazz will just ride with tinsley/watson for now.
When they do clear some spots (which won't be until after the trade deadline if they make any deals), I would like them to take also look at Jarvis Vanardo and Sam Young as well as Machado. All could be good and cheap future backups although I think Vanardo can be much much more than that.

Reapaman is right that the Jazz would have to trade or waive at least 1 player in order to pick up Machado or anyone else. However, I don't understand his fascination with additional wing players when the Jazz have plenty of decent players at these position now (in fact, too many as Burks can't find the floor).
I too woukld like to see the Jazz pick up Machado at all and see what he can do in limited minutes. This is a perfect opportunity to see if he would be a good fit (particularly if the JAzz don't have any plans of trading for a starting caliber PG). Even in this situation, having a young pg with potential on the roster wouldn't be bad idea.

Seriously, if the Jazz don't make this happen then it is really going to hard for me to regain my faith in this FO. Murphy does not seem like he'll ever actually play on the Jazz, and Machado was the guy I was really hoping we'd draft. That being said the fact that the Jazz didn't offer him a contract in the off-season makes me doubt that they would now. Shame. He'd be a great fit for this.

Normally i would say yes, but in the actual situation its better to give some PG-minutes to Burks, which already has happened - very surprisingly.

Hey everone, I just joined after reading for a couple months. It would be awesome if we signed him, we don't lose or risk anything, I just wish we didn't have raja so we could

If we dropped Carroll to pick him up, Burks would probably play more. I like Carroll, but i'd drop him for a young backup PG with potential (to at least be a very good backup, fringe probability of being a starter) in a heartbeat.

If I am not mistaken, Murphy's contract is nonguaranteed until Thurs. If the Jazz waive him today or tomorrow they could pick up Machado or another backup PG.

I would rather see the Burks/Hayward backcourt PG experiment and let Kevin Murphy pick up minutes here or there.

Re: The Rockets waived Machado - do it KOC!
It does look like the Jazz are going to keep Murphy.
I don't get it, though. I wasn't overly impressed with him in the summer league and he isn't impressing in the DLeague. After 14 game, averaging about 29 mins per game, he is 32nd of guards in pts/rebs/asts, 33rd in FG%, and 48th in 3p%. I thought that he was being brought in as a sharpshooter, but against better competition he is struggling. Given the depth at the wing, Mo's injury and two grandpas switching at the starting PG on a 15 player roster, one would think that the JAzz would be interested in waiving Murphy and picking up a young PG if nothing else other than depth. I know a lot of people would like Foye or Burks to step into that role, but I just don't see either being able to be an effective PG- one is a spot up shooter and the other a slasher and neither has a very good handle or propensity to look for open teammates.

We are not short any PG's. We just lack any 3rd string PG performance in Watson. You get a trade for watson and get anyone but him, then I am happy.
I like Burks at SG, although I wouldn't mind staying PG, where he does great.
People only complain because we have 4 1st rounders at all positions, except at PG. We want a young Chris Paul to come in and grow with our bench.

In our situation i think signing Machado is no brainier basically we dont have any sure option at 1 spot. Guy reminds a loot young Earl and i think he can be solid pg in nba, i liked a loot his game in ncaa.

Funny how no one including me remembered who the GM is now.
