why does Tampa play indoors?

Post#1 » by number15 » Sun Jan 6, 2013 5:19 pm

With cities like Toronto who would die for an outdoor stadium, but have to play indoors because of weather, it reallymakes you wonder why a team like Tampa Bay would play indoors.

They are in Florida.... with great weather... hot weather... yet they built a dome. A **** dome at that too.

If Miami built an outdoor stadium next door, why did Tampa go wrong?

I wish Toronto to could go outdoors  ...... but wont for atleast 20 years

Probably because the weather is so unpredictable.

As for the reason having a closed roof, they have hot humid weather with many thunderstorms compared to other places, a dome is needed but they have the only dome without a retractable roof right now.

The heat and humidity in Florida is almost unbearable in summer and it rains a ton in summer too. And Miami didn't build an outdoor stadium, they built a retractable roof stadium to protect against Florida's hot, rainy, humid summer weather.

What fans they can't even fill up their stadium for the ALCS....Miami sports fans are pathetic. To answer the OP yeah its the constant rain. If you go there in the summer for a few weeks you'll know its either a crazy amount of rain or scorching hot.

Clearly the OP didn't even look up the normal climate for Tampa Bay during baseball season.

that's my point, a crap stadium for their fanbase is well deserved. they didn't even support their team well when they have been in a playoff hunt

My parents winter over near Tampa. They say it gets oppresively hot in the summer and rains almost every day. It gets so hot most people don't walk their dogs, they use special dog strollers as their paws will burn quickly on the pavement. Now imagine sitting under that for 3 hours.

Houston plays inside too for the same reasons.

Miami gets a lot more breeze and is less humid, so its passable to get by playing outside there on a lot of days. But they still have the roof when needed.

Yup. That's why I took exception when Evan Longoria took a little shot are our quiet/small crowds. If Toronto had any of the success the Rays have had we'd be selling out the dome in September, not playing to crowds of 12 000 people.

I think it was David Price that said something about the Jays fans on twitter.

Blame the elderly. They comprise most of the Tampa fan base during the week and Thursday afternoon games. All that direct sunlight is bad for their skin, so a dome was necessary.
