"A request for a $150 million state subsidy was turned down by the governor." No funding for the new arena. I bet the Maloofs didn't see that coming. It looks like they are stuck here, at least for now.

Only way this can happen now is if Comcast brings a lot more money to the deal.

"Despite a setback in funding, Virginia Beach took another step toward building a new arena and presumably luring the Sacramento Kings east. Their council voted 9-2 on Tuesday night to continue negotiations with entertainment giant Comcast-Spectacor."

"Virginia Beach's mayor has set a Monday deadline to have a lease signed with a professional sports team – widely reported to be the Sacramento Kings – or he'll pull the plug on the city's arena efforts for this year." Maybe Monday will have a better idea if the Kings are going to VB or not.

The scuttlebutt is that the NBA wants no parts of Virginia Beach; they want a franchise in Seattle & Sacramento so even if the Maloofs make the foolish decison to sign a lease agreement, the NBA will take action.

Suck it Magoofs.

Now will they try to find another city they can hope to freeload off of, or will they finally be convinced to sell the damn club?

This might not be over yet. There is still time to go back to the table & rework the deal. I would assume that if this doesn't work that they will lower their asking price of 500 million & sell the team.

But they have to go up to the state to ask that funding and with March 1 deadline for relocation, they wont have enough time to get it done. VA dream is over.

They don't have much time, but what if Comcast agrees to increase it's investment? At this point we don't if the deal is dead b/c of money or the Maloofs.

This deal is about as dead as any public funding arena can be. Without the Maloof's signature the deal cannot move forward and the Maloofs are not going to grant their signature on a deal that isn't 100% certain.

What this mean is that a publicly funded arena that does not have its financing already in place is not good enough to get the Kings. Sacramento, of course, has a plan for the publicly funded arena that HAS its financing in place. So the Maloof can always come back to it. I don't know if they will but they can.

Really, why don't they just move them back to Kansas City? We have had an arena sitting here for, oh, give or take 7 years now.
