I'm just going to pretend that it was not suggested that we would be better off with Martin right now.

I wasn't quite as excited as moofs, but like Royce White I need to give myself credit whenever I can, so... from last year trade deadline thread:

Oh, I totally agree.

Yeah, I also may have said I perhaps would have preferred a full-rebuild, but I honestly didn't think we'd be playing as well as soon, nor did I expect Morris to be even half-decent and as much as I loved Harden, he's certainly exceed my expectations so far. You also get so attached to these rookies.

Harden definitely is not the best SG in the league, Kobe still is, he just can't play with other superstar
Harden is playing great against crappy team
he has problem playing against good team
you can give excuse he's not getting enough help
so he needs another star
post up player?
sure
then that will clog up the lane
Harden strength is driving down the lane

Harden is better than Joe Johnson AKA "Mr. 3rd best SG".

With those draft picks you'd be lucky to get someone like Harden. And who knows when we would have received that Dallas pick as it looks like they won't sniff a top ten record in the league for some time. As for the expiring contract - we have a lot of free cap room already and it will be pretty easy to clear out more.

than harden? i miss the picks, but i am so glad we got harden

no one was going to come here via free agency with all that capspace without someone on our team that they see they can play with and a bright future unless we gave a max to someone that didn't deserve it

i think players will want to come play with us now (at least more than they would have before) that we have harden (and parsons and lin) who can make plays for them plus we are the youngest team in the league so our future isn't bleak if we land another few quality pieces with that capspace

madbucky wrote:Here's some debate fodder: in retrospect/hindsight, would you have rather traded Kevin Martin or Jeremy Lin to OKC, or no trade?

For me, I think the Rockets would have been best off with:
1) Harden + Martin
2) Lin + Martin
3) Lin + Harden

Here's why: this year Harden is scoring 25 pts per36, Martin is scoring 19 pp36, Lin is scoring 13 pp36 (compared to 20 pp36 last year). Harden has proven himself to be a superstar, no doubt. Martin is shooting an amazing 45.0% fg and 45.3% 3pt now that he's not the primary scorer on the team. Can you imagine Martin taking all those open 3's instead of Lin? Lin's offense has been neutered by the presence of Harden. Harden doesn't play much defense, so I don't think he's an improvement over Martin on defense, Lin's probably the best defender out of those 3. Another x-factor is that I feel that Lin's style elevates the play of less talented teammates, whereas Harden's style is to take the game upon himself. So if you take the sum of the parts, I think the Rockets would have been best off with:

1) Harden 25 + Martin 19 = 44 pts (average annual salary $16+$11 = $27M)
2) Lin 20 + Martin 19 = 39 pts (average annual salary $8+$11 = $19M)
3) Harden 25 + Lin 13 = 38 pts (average annual salary $16+$8 = $24M)

How is this not ban worthy?
For every point Martin scores he gives up 2.

I'm sorry, I beat around the bush earlier in the thread while trying to prove to people that this was a great trade because Harden was still somewhat an unknown in regards to what he could do as a starter, but now after seeing him flourish individually and elevate this team, I must say that I think you're being ridiculous. I know I won't change your mind and I'm not trying to, but I'll explain why. There has not been one single player that you could say is unquestionably better than James Harden is that has entered the NBA since 2009, when he came out. That's 4 drafts. This year will make it 5. Sift through the talent pool yourself. There are a bunch of solid players, but not very many stars in the past 4 drafts. Harden is one of them along with Blake Griffen and Kyrie Irving. Take a look for yourself. Not many franchise changers in there. It's a crapshoot. James Hardens don't come along very often. Lebrons almost never.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-draft-h ... syear=2012

Some teams pick high in the draft every year and still are struggling. For example...

Detroit
Charlotte
Toronto
Cleveland
Washington
Sacramento

You know why the Clippers suddenly don't suck? They did what we did. They traded those lottery tickets in for Chris Paul. The ones who draft decently turn into Golden State and Portland. Nice teams, but I think this team is on or around that same level, has the youngest team in the NBA and the cap room to add another major piece that would put you above them. Kevin Martin was not at all in the plan so I won't dwell on him much, but you mentioned his expiring contract. What you do is use that money that is free to sign a big time free agent, but we can still do that so no big deal. I can't wrap my head around how or why you would prefer Jeremey Lamb, say the 8th pick in the draft this year and another mid 20 first rounder whenever Dallas gets good again in the next few years over James Harden. Hoping to have the worst team in the league and then get lucky enough in the lottery to draft Andrew Wiggens in 2 years is not a plan.

What did Daryl Morey do to you? We are actually winning and you aren't satisfied. We have a great future, Harden is being considered (though not serious) as an MVP candidate. And yet you prefer Kevin freaking Martin. There's no way your hatred for Morey & Harden is rational. It's just being foolish.

Hey, leave him alone. We could use a few bandwagon fans! :) I've been noticing a few people jumping on board in the general forum talking about how fun we are to watch and things of that nature. They just rarely pop up on our actual board. Although he may be a "HOF" lol. I hope so...I've never seen a HOF. It would be awesome.
