V: Rajon Rondo

Remember, this guy was supposed to be a centerpiece in the CP3 trade initially. I remember his value being firmly in between CP3 and Curry, and I don't think he's done anything to lose value. Coming into his prime soon too, and locked up for 2 more years after this. Narrowly edges out Lillard and Gasol IMO

N: David Lee

Here we have a guy with high BBIQ, able to play inside/outside, can dribble, can pass, and is a pretty good rebounder. He's locked up in a contract that will run through his prime, to the beginning of his decline (proj). Finally on a team with talent, he's showing that his #s were only hollow before because the teams were. If you put him on the market right now, I think he's in the conversation with any of the other nominees. Although I was tempted to put Bosh or possibly Curry here, I think Lee deserves at least a few nominations this go-round.

That was my take, but I had to think about it.

I had just about finished almost talking myself into Love over Rondo -- Love could be the marketable face of a franchise and is still very young -- and now shrink abandoning him makes me have to re-question myself. :(

That said, Wade gets an overdo vote so I'm happy.

I still like Rondo over Wade -- younger and a game that doesn't rely on athletism as much, signed guaranteed for 1 more year and almost half the price.

But with Love versus Rondo I think I'm just going to shot my eyes and go Love. Most teams might not give up as much for him, and Rondo might be the smarter acquisition. But (unless he sucks when he comes back) Love can be the face of a franchise in a way that few players can. So Rondo might have the broader market of good offers, but I could still see Love getting the best offer of the two, that there is at least a single team out there that would offer more for Love then the best team would for Rondo (and not in a drunken GM making a horrific trade sort of way). It might backfire -- Love might pout and then go wherever he wants, have lingering shooting issues, or just accumulate stats but not help his team win. But even with all those risks I think there is one team/Gm that opens up and makes a big offer for him.

Voting: Love

(sorry TraderJoe, I listened to everything you said and agree but then decided but still. Love has to get the but still from 1 gm somewhere.)

V: Rubio
N: Williams

Rubio has more value than rest. Rookie vs Max. Alot younger than Deron, Kobe, Aldridge,Gasol, Wade, and Howard. Also makes a 1/3 or less of what all of those guy make. Love has been decreasing his value lately, Rubio seems to have a bigger impact on the team than him. Proved more than Drummond and Lillard. Same age as Lillard. Rubio clearly makes his teammates better, something not many players in the nba do. I think thats what sets him apart from Lillard. Also has a higher ceiling and is exciting to watch. Yes selling tickets do matter when GMs are looking at trades. Rondo vs Rubio . They are both guaranteed for the next 3 years. Rubio makes half the money Rondo does, and is 4 years younger.

So gotta go with Rubio.

I'm still giving LMA the nod over Love or any other PF's. Well...except for one who's not on the list whom I'm nominating.

Vote: LaMarcus Aldridge
Nominate: Chris Bosh

The reports of Loves demise were written by a hack reporter who essentially took a possibility and called it fact.

All that aside, he's still going to be out 8 to 10 weeks right?

You're talking best case of mid-March when he's back and playing for a few games and worst case the first week of April when he's actually back in a groove if not later, as in the playoffs if the team that traded for him was in them.

Obviously you're not trading for Love as a one year rental, but every year counts and he's had quite the injury history even if most haven't been of the truly severe variety.

V: Kobe
Nominate: Bosh.

Fact is Kobe's Kobe. He's still the best SG in the league ( and I say this as a Rockets fan), he's one of the most popular players in the league, and while he's signed for a crapton of money, it's only for one more year after this.
But do you know what they call a fool, who's full of himself and jumps into the path of death because it's cool?

This part? Well said.

This part? What injury history? One broken hand? Love has been relatively healthy for his career. If he is out 8 weeks that sucks, but Love is the kind of player you build around. I dont disagree with LMA having more trade value this second to a contender, but for a rebuilding team I dont think so. You get Love AND you sell tickets while you tank because everyone knows you have a high draft pick and a superstar coming next year.

Remember, trade value is not what YOUR team would trade for someone. It is what the highest bidder would trade for someone. I think Melo is overvalued, I think LMA and Love are both undervalued. But clearly we can disagree
