George Maloof Claims Deal To Sell Kings 'Not Close'

Jan 10, 2013 4:10 PM EST

George Maloof has told Brian May of News10 that a deal to sell the Sacramento Kings to a group that plans to relocate the franchise to Seattle is not close.

George Maloof is the member of the family that has reportedly taken the lead on relocation and sale issues.

As I said in the other thread, George Maloof HAS to say that. He can't say a sale is close and it's only a matter of time before it's done. That would enrage all their fans and would likely result in a boycott by the few fans that are still coming to games. It would cost them millions.

There's a media war being played, so just be skeptical of everything that's being said.

The family that owns the Sacramento Kings wants to maintain a say in how the team is run if they sell it to Chris Hansen, creating a possible snag in the sale negotiation, an NBA source told The Seattle Times.

And that's exactly why a new arena was never built in Sacramento. They wanted the city to pay for all of it and then still take the majority of the profits.

Well, no fans will come to the games if they tell about the deal. Like when the Kings first moved to Sacramento from KC.

This is typical Maloof business. They wanted to pay for about 15% of the Arena in Sacramento and own/operate it. They want to sell their team to Seattle but still operate it. What a joke.

This is their last opportunity to sell it for a big amount. If they blow it, they might be forced to sell it to a group in Sacramento or elsewhere.

Now this situation have me thinking this little question?

Can the NBA force out a owner and sell the team?

Because the Maloof is making the whole league look bad right now and this needs to stop right now.

We've been asking that question for years.

We had buyers lined up and they just shut them down.

I guess the answer is if David Sterns cares enough - probably.

He doesn't care about Sacramento though.

The idea that they want to sell the team but still have a say in how it's run is absolutely laughable. The Seattle group would be better off just waiting it out for another team to move than have to buy the Kings with that stipulation. They Magoofs shouldn't be anywhere near the team from an operation standpoint once they sell.

No, they can't force an owner to sell the team, unless it's established that the owners can't pay for the product. Make no mistake about it, the Maloofs aren't making money this year, but they could easily go back to the bare minimum product again (like the did the past few years) and at least break even.

man it would be nice to hear what league insiders say about the Magoofs behind closed doors.

The sooner this dysfunctional collection of miscreants gets its hands off an NBA team, the better off the league, the team's players, and bball fans will be.

Amazing to think they want to have a say in team operations after relinquishing ownership of it. Unless that's some dumb ploy to leverage more out of prospective buyers?...? Nah it seems just like the kind of thing they'd ask for, with straight faces lol You guys have done enough. Really.
