Give the Maloofs a D-League team in Vegas to manage.

Again, I hate these guys, but I'd give them some kind of say (a very very SMALL say) in the franchise if they sold to local Sacramento investors. Just have George Maloof GTFO.

boogie-reke wrote:No, the Maloofs decide here.

If they sell to us and the team is in Sacramento, then there's nothing for the BOG to talk about - they'd only decide if the team is gonna apply for relocation. Atleast that's how I understand things.

So it comes down to
A) How deep are Hansen and co willing to go, and are they gonna hope for an expansion/other team in a mess to have another go in a couple of years and save themselves loads of money
B) If we beat Hansen - are the Maloofs pathetic **** that will actually decline to take an offer that'll get them more money, just out of spite?

That's the two major question right now. Personally I feel like B is a non-issue - they're broke as hell, and will go with who gives them more cash.

A is the problem, seeing as these fakers are loaded.

The only thing you have incorrect here is that BOTH the SALE and the RELOCATION are decided by the BOG in separate decisions. They do have the right to nix the sale if they do not believe it is in the best interests of the league.

As far as the anti-trust suit threat, give me a damn break! These guys are so full of sheet it's coming out their ears! How the hell would there broke asses be able to cover the enormous legal fees involved with fighting a multi-billion dollar organization run by LAWYERS?

Not to mention the 29 BILLIONAIRE owners?

And when they try it, the league calls in the hi Fred million plus in loans that they are on the hook for.

No wonder these guys blew their daddy's money!

In a stunning new twist on the Sacramento Kings saga, a group including the new owner of Downtown Plaza is proposing to buy the team and build a $400 million arena on the site of the troubled shopping center.

A source connected to the proposal said the group believes it would make a viable alternative to the Maloof family's potential sale of the team to a consortium planning to relocate the Kings to Seattle.

A source said the group includes other deep-pockets investors who have the ability to pull the deal together.

"We make the case to the NBA that we've got the funding," said the source, who insisted on anonymity.

The source, who insisted on anonymity, said AECOM - an architectural and engineering firm that designed the new NBA arena in Brooklyn - has already sketched arena plans for the Downtown Plaza site. "It's actually an ideal location, it can be built more quickly than the railyard," the source said.

AECOM already has operations in Sacramento.

The group is just the latest entrant in the escalating Kings sweepstakes. On Friday, wealthy Bay Area investor Mark Mastrov - who was a runner-up in the bidding for the Golden State Warriors two years ago - said he's interested in buying the troubled franchise and keeping it in Sacramento.

If they're gonna throw us to the dogs after all of this, then I don't know what else to say.

If they can't see just how good and important it is to have Sacramento with an NBA team - for both the City and the League - enough for them to fight for us in every possible way - then I really am dumbfounded.

What more do they need?

I really think they just want to feel like they're a part of it still. So if they want seats with their M logo on them, and dance on the court after playoff wins, and to call themselves part owners of the Sacramento Kings, then fine--as long as they're the Sacramento Kings.

I feel the same way.

Anyway, the news coming out today about the downtown plaza is absolutely awesome. All of this at the very least demonstrates what an incredible market Sacramento really is. The Maloofs just couldn't or were unwilling to maximize it. We wouldn't have so much interest if these people thought they were going to end up losing their money.

I'm not sure if I would say the chances of keeping the Kings are in our favor, but they're definitely realistic at this point.

The only say the Maloofs should have is what brand toilet paper to buy for the team locker room. Anything else is just a disaster waiting to happen.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

I agree, but I would rather have a Maloof owned team in Sacramento than no team in Sacramento.

Ya I'd be fine with that. Hell I'd even be ok with giving George some crayons and letting him go to town on ideas for the new arena, let AECOM or whoever post George's ideas on their fridge, tell him good job and let him still feel like he is a "developer" .

Will be interesting to see what the Kings finally sell for. I have a feeling Hansen and Ballmer will raise their offer if it looks like they might lose the team and I'm sure that is exactly what the Maloofs are hoping/plotting for.

In every scenario it's basically came down to the Maloofs getting all profits and paying nothing to run the team. This is a different spin on achieving the same thing. The arena deal is fair that we had but doesn't provide an influx of cash. Samueli's deal provided the cash, but no control. Virginia Beach turned out to be like the arena deals we went through in the beginning.

This seems like the same deal where the Maloofs are considering "selling" if they can have cash and control. It's no surprise there has been a 180 in tone. I don't like this roller coaster one bit. We have been a fanbase that deserves a franchise that is committed to being here. Why don't we go get the Raiders and just be done with it! They don't sell out in Oakland.

Just interested; would that be an option? I know the Raiders need a stadium; could KJ and Sacramento really make that happen? Sure would be a slap in the face for Stern and the NBA if they were to allowed the Kings to leave under these circumstances and the city in turn was able to lure in the Raiders.

I think a football stadium would be many times more difficult and expensive to build than an arena, and we would be in direct competition with freakin' Los Angeles. It would be HILARIOUS if we got an NFL team before LA did though.

Sacramento is a Niners town anyway.
