Clippers claim to have right 'chemistry'

Griffin said the Clippers' bond formed early this season.

"It's hard to describe. For us, from the very beginning, this group has just come together. We all have the same idea. We all have the same goal," he said. "A lot of times, guys will say that and say, 'We want to win a championship.' But this is one of those things where it's almost like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You might not be able to play on a team with this much talent and this much chemistry.

"It's our outlook."

Chemistry is big. You can win games without having great chemistry off the court, but it helps," Griffin said. "The closer you are off the court and the more you genuinely like each other, the more you want each other to do well.

"That helps on the court because you're not playing for yourself out there. You're playing for your teammates."

I think of the chemistry and it reminds me of the Boston Celtics year one when they won the big three title. A bunch of new players but have come together with one goal and focus to win and respect each other.

HILL AND BARNES SEE CLIPPERS AS ‘SPECIAL’ SITUATION

“It’s a new feeling for me,” Barnes said after Tuesday’s practice. “It’s a new feeling for the organization. I think we’re enjoying it, but we want to continue. We’re not satisfied. We want to continue to get better.”

“A chance to win a championship,” Hill said. “I think if you see what we’ve done thus far and I don’t think just with the guys that we’ve played, I don’t think that we’ve reached our potential yet. You don’t always have these opportunities and I’ve been in the league 19 years and to have a team that has this kind of talent, this kind of depth, this kind of character, I don’t know that I’ve ever been in a situation like this. And once you’re done playing there’s no looking back, so you want to give it all you can while you are playing.”

Hill’s comments echoed young superstar Blake Griffin from a day earlier when he called this year’s Clippers team a potential “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Hill and Barnes know it, too.

“The last few years you can slowly see that [the Clippers] were building something special here,” Barnes said.

“When they got Chris [Paul] last year, you knew they were really going to turn it up and all the acquisitions they made this summer, you knew that something good was going to happen.”

I was talking with my brother the other about the urgency to win. This collection of players with this exact chemistry is only going to last for this season. Next year, there's going to be some new faces and potentially a different approach. Some (i.e. Billups & Hill) may retire, others (i.e. Odom, Barnes, Turiaf, etc.) are free-agents. I'd really like to see this group win it together. Then if Billups and Hill want to retire, they would sail away on a high note. Having Odom and Barnes win on the team that they started their careers with would be really nice. Plus, winning would only give us better choices in Free-Agency.

Odd title for the original article- the chemistry is blindingly obvious from anyone watching Clipper basketball this year, even before any players say anything about it.

Clippers have championship chemistry

Image

"It's a team sport," Odom said. "If we were playing a poker game and we don't like each other, then … you've seen those movies. But if everyone gets along, it's s---- and giggles. In this locker room we have fun, it's s---- and giggles and cake."

Odom wasn't joking. After the Clippers beat the Dallas Mavericks 99-93 for their league-best 13th straight win at home that pushed their record to a league-best 28-8, Ronny Turiaf was handing out chocolate cupcakes from a plastic Tupperware tray he had in his locker.

"Only if they're gluten-free," said Chris Paul, taking a quick look at the cupcakes.

"They're gluten-free, bro," Turiaf said, in his best surfer accent.

"It matters," Paul said when asked about chemistry. "It matters a lot when you really, truly care about somebody. You'll dive on the floor for them. You'll run through that screen for them. You really genuinely care how they feel. It just means a little bit more. When you win, you're genuinely happy. You'll go out to eat with your teammates after the game. You want to win for each other and not just for yourself."

"We came into this season knowing we were going to make a great run," Odom said. "We were going to win games. It's going to be fun. It's going to be totally different than any other year. Every time we step onto the court and win a game, we're making history. We're starting a tradition. That feels pretty good to be the start of something. As a matter of fact, it's a feeling like no other."

I love the part about the team using Ryan Hollins' new restaurant as their hangout spot after the game. I think it's great how they are all supportive of each other. They check their egos and have fully embraced the family aspect of the team concept.

This kind of read is just what makes me love the sport, especially with teams like ours right now, it's so much more than just a game, so much more.

The team does have a special chemistry! I'm not sure the team can improve themselves by making a trade.

we are beyond the general chemistry, by the way our guys truly enjoy each other, we have an "organic" chemistry.
...............Blake................Barnes..........Grant.............Turiaf
................../....................../................./................../
DeAndre- C(p3)-C(aron)-C(rawford)-C(hauncey)=O(dom)
................/...................../................./................./
.........Willie............Bledsoe............trey.............Hollins

does this make sense to anyone? lol(dots used for spacing, and Caron not being saturated should be ignored)
ehhhhh f it.

Im sorry.... its my nerdiness coming out..... especially when i'm drunk.

just in case there are people who gets it, Cp3-Caron-Crawford-Chauncey makes 4 carbon link, thus butane organic structure.... odom becomes Oxygen, making the chain butanol(as of alcohol).... all the other guys become elements that fill up the free bond to be occupied of the carbons.........

i intentionally added the entire starting line up to Cp3 links, then the weakest link of the starter, Caron linking to our bench studs... then Chauncey link to add our most vet and most rook, then odom to link our bench bigs.......

damn, i just turned 38 and still have no common sense and still a goddamn nerd...... lmao.
ehhhhh f it.
