If you get caught you aren't doing it right. People like Lance Armstrong and Marion Jones showed how you can take PEDs and pass all the tests.

Dana White is a bald-faced liar.
Now the UFC has tentatively scheduled Melendez vs. Benson for UFC on Fox 7 on April 20th. So on my birthday they will officially have broken a promise to my favorite fighter, Showtime Pettis, for a third time. Thanks for the present, UFC. Your lump of coal is on it's way through the mail from my direction.
They're also rewarding a fighter who ducked his opponent to preserve this shot. Pettis took on Guida even though he didn't have to.

At least you can get super baked. And Dana is the pits. Don't believe a word he says about a fight until you see the two fighters touch gloves.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
I haven't commented on this a lot on here because I don't want to just come off as a homer. But I really don't understand the logic. I really feel like Pettis is a guy that the ufc could use that has a ton of marketing potential (is this true or am I homerish here? the guy could be a star). He has a good look, is about as flashy as they come, and is young and very very good.
Dana came out and said that Pettis has every right to complain about all this. When he says that, you know its true.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
They can keep Pettis' purse down this way, and I'm sure they recognize that he's a budding star, but only one guy can fight the champ. Gil is coming over and he makes mad bank, they need to capitalize on it. It's probably money related.
I don't think it's the worst thing in the world, but I'm not a mega Pettis fan, so I can see why you guys won't like it. I think 2012 showed us that the number one contender is an obsolete distinction going forward. Sadly, it's up to almost everything except how you perform and there's a pool of five or so guys in each division that can make a title shot case. Dana and Joe Silva are starting to go for the top draw or the best human interest story out of this crop, not the best fight or the most appropriate fight. Blame the WEC and Strikeforce mergers.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
I don't need my birthday as an excuse to get baked. But in the sober moments between now and then, it will trouble me.
All I can hope is this doesn't become official before Pettis has a chance to lay his claim, and then he inverted flip kick knocks Cerrone the f out. They couldn't deny him and pass on a Bendo-Pettis rematch then. I don't know why they aren't waiting to see what happens at least. If they jeopardize an uber marketable rematch then they'll be kicking them afterward. Melendez has a good shot at Bendo. Then, what, they're going to have Pettis fight Bendo in a non-title? That doesn't make sense.
If it's monetarily related, then Pettis is getting doubly jobbed. He's making freaking 10/10 still! Give him the sponsorship opportunities headlining a Fox at freaking least. They better be giving him buku locker room bonuses, not that I'm a big believer in that crap. It's over-exaggerated by people who want to believe fighters are taken care of and UFC have nearly all the best. They don't.
So much is riding on Bellator's success for fighters and fans. Look at how it's already benefited Bendo. He got a huge raise because Eddie's offer from UFC to keep him away from Bellator came out. If Bellator wouldn't have been competitive that never would have happened. Hopefully fighters keep on getting bumps in pay and the UFC hand out title shots on more meritorious bases because of their competing org's tourney system.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
That was a point I was going to bring up. I'm not sure how much potential I believe bellator has, but there does seem to be a climate that is going to be ripe for them to grow. Moving to spike, advertising during ufc shows maybe picking up new fans and new to the sport fans, strikeforce dying...
Additionally, I agree with sdm's point about number one contendership not really meaning much anymore, and favoring storylines and all that. Blah. I personally dig all that stuff, but it has to be backed up in the cage and the fights merited. Bellator has a system such that, barring several horrible decisions in a row, its impossible to argue that the guys don't deserve a shot. Add in strikeforce's demise and some possible new blood for that, and maybe bellator can make some kind of little run. They'll have to avoid silly issues like not clearing their fighters at the venues and such, of course.

Looks like it is a done deal.
Gil vs Bendo in San Joe on FOX.
I don't think Gil is going to do well in this fight, just me though.
Pettis is in tough with Cerrone, guys, don't underestimate the Cowpoke.

Boy, that would sure suck (even disregarding my Pettis love). What would you even do with Cerrone there? Surely nobody wants to see him get his ass beat by Bendo for the 3rd time?

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Agreed.
It is a poor decision on Zuffa's part again. (COugh cough TUF)
Melendez needs to prove he's not going to get all nervous in his UFC debut.....and on FOX.
Pettis deserves the shot if he beats Cerrone, but rankings are meaningless in the UFC.
BTW.....are you guys all Pettis homers because you are from Wisconsin, or is it because he is a great fighter.
I am fan of him, but he really does look like a Backstreet Boy.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
RZ and I have talked about this before and defended that it's not primarily because he's from Wisconsin.
My other top 3 favorites are Condit and Machida. I think Condit was his second favorite, and Machida among his top favorites. The common thread is diverse strikers, more a favoring of BJJ over wrestling, and they are good dudes.
Pettis fits those categories. And he's as diverse of a striker as they come. Nobody has more techniques than him. He was doing crazy **** before the Showtime kick, i.e.: tornadoes, martelos, folha secas, etc. I watched it coming up in the WEC because I followed the WEC closely. That's how I became invested in Condit too. He was WW champion, then Pettis was LW champ.
Pettis also has a great story behind him. With what happened to his dad, coming through that, being respectful of his opponents, and his style; I don't see how anyone could dislike Pettis. And I'd think most would like him. There's a backlash because he's done more notable things outside an organization the average fan didn't watch and they were told they should show more respect for him but then he made a bad first impression so that confirmed a bias that they weren't missing out on much. They're going to try and validate that original opinion as long as they can so they didn't have to admit they are wrong. Then there was also the pretty boy factor you mentioned. Bloodstain Lane said he'd be a bigger fan too if he didn't look like the 6th member of the Backstreet Boys. But who cares about that ****. He's a good looking kid, and takes a wee bit too much pride in it. It's trivial. At least he doesn't call himself Pretty Boy like Floyd.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Yea, I would be a fan of Pettis regardless. There are other successful guys from here, but am not as big a fans of them because of their styles or personalities or whatever. I like guys like Condit, Killa B, Lauzon, etc. Finishers. He has diverse striking and can sub you from the bottom. Fun to watch, young, good potential, and I also always loved WEC and lightweight in general. Have followed him for a long time and he has a great story, and reps the Brew Crew.
I've also had the opportunity to have a few interactions with him in person, which is cool. Although admittedly I was a big Pettis homer far before that ever came to fruition. This is also all before you realize that he does a lot for Wisconsin mma, he and Duke do a weekly show for the state's mma and he owns part of Duke's now which I feel like is exploding right now, not just in terms of professional fighters, but in general for local mma-ers and weekend warriors as well which is great to see.
Last note, maybe the fact that his new tattoos look like he did them himself (no disrespect, but think almost Belcher level bad) and are prominently displayed on the sides of his torso will diminish the boy band look.

I don't like that BSL, but I laughed my ass off at that.
Just havin' a go.
Thank goodness we have guys like AP in the game these days.
And god bless the fine land of Wisconsin!

Listening to the mmahour from yesterday now. Marc Ratner is on. Ariel asked a stupid question about why the ufc doesn't always regulate themselves because of judging/reffing problems. Marc replied that he agrees there are some judding problems but disagrees that there are reffing problems.
Well, at least now we know why we see things like the Yamasaki twins shipped in by the ufc all across the world.

Bisping has to one of the best interviews in MMA all-time.
He can't help but insult people, with a tongue-in-cheek style, and he cracks me up.
Ariel and him have a good back and forth thing going on.
And Hector is just ......bizarre. He seems like a snapper, and as per numerous gym stories, he does.
I also believe Anderson would have Hector's head in the stands within 2 minutes, with all that sloppy striking he does.

I don't think a Hector/Silva fight would go very well for Hector.
That said, they could probably sell it just based on Hector looking like a super hero and Silva being just a skinny dude. Because, physique matters, brah.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
I think the UFC should have waited until after Pettis-Cerrone to announce the Melendez-Henderson fight. The likelihood of Pettis beating Cerrone is anything but a guarantee. Even the betting odds have it fairly even and I haven't even decided who I think is going to win yet. If Pettis lost, then the UFC could have easily justified a unification fight between Benson and Gil.
