Hawks Fan.... Now that you guys have seen a half season of JJ, How does he look? and what do you think of his game?

do you think he is a keeper? or. are you ready to trade him?

I like him. He took his time getting warmed up to playing in BKN with this team, but he's playing consistent basketball now and is always a threat on offense.

I don't think they have any intention of trading him with his contract.

I don't think we can get rid of him even if we wanted to. We were pretty much the only team willing to take on that deal.

He leads the team in minutes because he's a key part of the team. He's one of the few guys who can play with any lineup and play well. He's a shooter, a scorer and a playmaker - plus an underrated defender. Some people might expect too much from JJ but I think he's been great - do not want to see him traded since I'm not paying his contract.

Yeah, I thought he may take some time to get to playing at his normal level. he has not had a point guard since Nash 8 years ago. so he had to get used to playing like a true off ball guard. he is not all that athletic but no one is more skilled then him.

I thought you guys would like him. I was just hoping he would come around before you guys dogged him out to bad. LOL

he is one of my guys because he came to Atlanta when noone else would and made us some what relevant and a perennial play off team ( not a championship) but out of the realms of being a bottom feeder team. So for that I am for ever thankful to JJ and wish him nothing but success. except for this Wednesday I hope he goes 0 for 30....... LOL. naw I take that back, I hope he scores 88 points and the Hawks win 89 to 88. yeah that's what I want to happen.

good look the rest of the way.

I was pissed at him early on, because the guy just wasn't doing anything. But he's really turned it on, and looks a lot more comfortable out there. He's been our go to scorer in a lot of crucial situations throughout the year, and he's usually delivered. And I think his defense has actually been really good this year. Quicker hands than I expected, strips the ball a lot. And obviously he's strong with a lot of size and length, so he can contest really well.

Really wish he would be a little more aggressive and get to the line more, especially in the post. Instead of fading away over a smaller guy, maybe fake on that shot, get the guy in the air, and get to the line. Or lean into the defender and shoot, and increase your chances of drawing a foul.

But then again, that's never really been his game, so can't expect him to change now. Overall, I think he's been pretty good, and he's playing off-ball really well. Him and Deron have certainly been playing like the best backcourt in the league under PJ.

Same here. He was really frustrating for awhile but he's been great the last 3 weeks or so.

I'm still in shock of the value King gave up for him though, no one wanted that contract and yet he included a 1st round pick and Atlanta's option to pick swap 2 years in a row(2014 and 2015).

that value is what made it easy for me to swallow trading JJ. as a hawks fan I knew that atlanta had plateaued and with JJ's contract we could not get another big time free agent to take it to another level. so our new GM Ferry did a good job. though we need a go to scorer JJ should not be the only play maker on a team.

im a huge fan of johnson and always knew he would come around... even when he was struggling he was still getting to all the right spots on the floor and taking good shots.

he is a great fit for this team.

Pretty much exactly how i feel about JJ. Early on he was pretty bad and it was frustrating to watch him miss open shots but he's settled into the offense nicely. I also really like that floater that he takes when he gets in the lane.

Agreed.

JJ is big time. All those people complaining because we gave up a lottery protected first round pick for him, don't know what they're talking about.

Didn't the league force us to include that pick anyway?

I remember the Hawks wanted Brooks, and Billy King wouldn't waiver on that.

And the pick swaps mean nothing. No way does Atlanta finish as high as we do.

Definitely a fan of JJ, he's over payed, but I think he might of gotten close to that deal else where when that contract was inked, but I'll let the experts comment on that...however, Ferry got a very generous deal, I am not sure who else was in the market for JJ at that time...it's funny from what I remember Ferry contacted King asking if he was interested I wonder if he had an offer on the table and asked for a first rounder (that pick swap thing is bunch of bull, amazing)...w/ Billy needing to win now and Deron yet to sign he pulled the trigger...but then again maybe Ferry bluffed...

JJ is perfect on this team ...probably not a true go to guy, who is aging, but one who is really starting to look very comfortable in BK...it's going to be learning process as JJ ages but I think his game will adapt and I really feel he has a chance to have good years as maybe a poor mans Ray Allen/Glen Rice down the road or even just as good...but you can obviously argue how good that jump shot really is...

How does the pick swap mean nothing?

You realise how bad we were with Lopez injured?

What happens if D Will damaged his wrist again and is out for the season, then we free fall and ATL pick swap with us leaving a potential lotto pick in ATL for a late round choice.

What happens if Howard and CP3 go to ATL in the offseason and make the team a contender. They would pick swap with us in 2014 and 2015 making us take an even later draft pick.

Also makes those draft picks worthless in potential trades so yeh the pick swap does mean something.

JJ is being a Pro for us...

constant scoring threat we need. He's making strides and honestly he's defense isn't that bad...

You didn't include the what if the Hawks totally suck as they are right now and decide to move Smith or Horford before either of them want out. I understand, how you look at it but what ifs can happen with any and everything.

What if we sucker a team into trading for those picks in a deal where we get quality pieces back....Today?
