Jays Sign Denis Villatoro (#1 RHP Free Agent)

The Blue Jays signed 18-year-old right-hander Denis Villatoro to a five-year contract, Saúl Carranza of the Honduran newspaper Diez reported over the weekend (translation via MLBTR's Nick Collias). It's a five-year deal, according to La Tribuna. Villatoro, who worked out for the Blue Jays before signing, said he's "very happy" to have agreed to terms with Toronto, Carranza reports. His fastball reaches 93 mph, and he also drew interest from the Orioles, Yankees, Mets, Astros, Giants and Pirates.

Also, Villatoro isn't exactly a big fish -- as evidenced by the fact that he signed for $20k at age 18 -- but you can never have too many arms.

Hard to imagine it would only require $20K to sign the top available RHP free agent available.

There's a possibility that he's the #1 free agent pitcher from Honduras who was born in 1994, I guess.

I just want to know if he's any good and I was excited and curious about the thread title until I realized it meant nothing.

Compared to what actual top international free agents signed for (Yoenis Cespedes got $36 million, Adeiny Hechavarria got $20 million, Aroldis Chapman got $30 million) or even recent comparables like when the Jays signed Roberto Osuna as a 17 year-old two years ago for $1.5 million...

...I just can't imagine hearing about this guy (who we got for $0.02 million) ever again.
