Athletic QB's has taken over the NFL.
Kaepernick
Griffin lll
Newton
Wilson
These qb's make the game more fun to watch, and they actually can take over games both with their arms and legs. It's like they came out of nowhere and took over led by Cam Newton.
It's like the Illuminati they are taking over,so be prepared there is a power shift in the NFL.

D.Brees
A.Rodgers
*Tom Brady is the last hope for the traditional pocket qb's.

It's nothing new.
-Michael Vick
-Donovan McNabb
-Jeff Garcia
-Steve Young
-Randall Cunningham
-Vince Young
-etc, etc, etc........
Defensive coordinators will simply do what they've been doing for years. They will figure out ways to stop each individual QB that you listed in the OP, just like they eventually did to the QBs that I listed.

Re: Athletic QB's has taken over the NFL.
I don't think they make the game more fun to watch. I'd rather see Brady, Rodgers or Brees pick teams apart.
But I am glad we're getting a influx of them. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's nothing new biggie, it is, I can't remember a time all these young mobile QB's came in and took over a league like this. I do agree with your second part though that they will find a way to slow them down.

They are picking teams apart, did you not see Kaepernick tonight?

The difference between Michael Vick and guys like RG3 and Kaepernick...these guys can pass really well, in addition to being crazy athletes. Vick had that one season when he put it all together, and he had an MVP-caliber season. Never got back to that level again though. That kind of season wouldn't seem to be an outlier for a guy like RG3 though, and he could probably do that year in and year out, which would be amazing.

You can have all those QBs Im good with Rodgers. 49ers are a better team right now. Does not mean they have a better QB.

I think it's a bit different now that we're seeing at least one of the guys mentioned (Kaepernick) being run on option reads. That opposed to, say, running after the pocket breaks down or running when the defense plays man with no spy and there's room to run. There's a whole new dimension to the game when it goes from "he may end up running in passing situations" to "he could run in any situation".
To me, the most interesting thing to watch is how Harbaugh is, more or less, bringing in college type plays to the NFL and having success. Coaches are starting to see how valuable it is to keep the defense guessing while also maintaining a rather conservative play style.

Re: Athletic QB's has taken over the NFL.
I hear you guys, but I still disagree to an extent.
The point that I'm trying to make is that coaches in the NFL are extremely smart about football Xs & Os. The same way that they shut down the "Wildcat" offense after it caught people by surprise will be the same thing that they do to these young QBs.
Just look at what happened to Cam Newton between his rookie & sophomore seasons.

I expected Newton to go through a "sophomore slump". Coordinators had a full year of tape to study on him. Now, it's up to him and coordinator to come up with the next move to counter that. It's a human chess game.

Re: Athletic QB's has taken over the NFL.
I don't think it's necessarily that athletic QBs are taking over the league, just that coaches and OCs are becoming more and more willing to use "unconventional" offensive schemes (like the Pistol and read-option) that were considered unsuitable for the NFL in order to better utilize their skill sets.
Instead of letting guys like RG3, Newton, Kap, Wilson, etc. just scramble when plays break down or they see a wide open lane, they're drawing up plays to take advantage of their athleticism. And defenses haven't quite figured out how to react yet. Hard to figure out how to contain a guy who can make throws all over the field AND beat you with his legs as well.

They're no where near taking over. 2 years in a row, we've seen solid prospects come out of college and look great, but it's only 2 years. These athletic QBs usually get beaten up down the line and their careers aren't very long. RG3 has already torn an ACL, LCL, and had a concussion.

It's going to get to the point where they will have to bring back the rule where you can jam the receiver past the 5 yard line.

Defensive coordinators eventually figure out how to defend them or they get injured from taking all those hits.
They can never last in the league for a long time, hence why none of them have longevity.

These quarterbacks seem pretty smart about things when they're doing the zone read option. They're sliding or running out of bounds. Plus, offensive coordinators don't usually have them running up the middle.

I wouldnt say they have taken over, but more and more QBs are athletes vs yesterday. Andrew Luck is considered the prototypical pocket QB but he's Vick compared to the best pocket passers in history.

He had more passing yards than Rodgers and he almost ran for 200 yards against the Packers . This guy has a lot of potential

Re: Athletic QB's has taken over the NFL.
The read option offense is the buzz of the NFL right now, but Aaron Rodgers said on his radio show this week that he expects it to fade away, just like the Wildcat formation did before it.
Rodgers made his comments after he and the Green Bay Packers were eliminated from the playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who ran for a quarterback-record 181 yards and passed for 263 out of the pistol formation.
Quarterbacks Russell Wilson, Robert Griffin III and Cam Newton also have excelled using elements of the read option.
