I love this hiring too.

Once the candidates were really known and you got a chance to read about them, he became my personal favorite. Hopefully Chicago just lucked into another Thibodeau (kudos to Magilla_Gorilla with the comparison). It'll be really interesting having an offensive guy in charge. I really can't wait to see how this offense looks under this new regime.

I guess the big question now is what happens to Marinelli.

Works for me... Based on what we have been hearing I think we could have done worse, I haven't heard a lot of negatives for this guy.

I hope he retains Maranelli and the defensive coaches for at least a season or two

Excellent choice. Success just follows this guy around and has his entire life.

Not a bad hire, but I was really pulling for Arians.

That year he was OC with the Raiders going to the SB was one of the most precise passing years for a QB that I've seen. Gannon was just on fire the entire season. If he can work magic like that, I love it. Either way, this is a really fun hire.

I hope Marinelli and Bates stick around too. Would be great to have a little bit of continuity going forward. Shame about the ST coach, he's been fantastic.

Anybody know anything about his defensive philosophies?

i don't know anything about his defensive philosophies, but I seem to read good stuff on his offensive philosophies, and that's good enough for me.

Per @AdamSchefter, former #Saints interim head coach Aaron Kromer will be the #Bears new offensive coordinator/O-line coach.

I guess Jimmy Johnson was right last Friday when Magilla posted the following in the 'coach search' thread  .

Not sure...don't know much about him. But he has worked with Drew Brees last year so he has that going for him.

Supposedly, he has some hot daughters :eyebrows: .

Move over Malia and Sasha, Chicagoans are about to have a new favorite pair of sisters to draft and follow: Chloe and Sarahanne Trestman. Mark Trestman was hired to make the Bears look better on the field. His two smokeshow daughters, Chloe and Sarahanne, will make the Bears look better off it. Meet Chloe, Coach Trestman's extremely cute 19 year old daughter. Chloe is a freshman at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Better book those flights to RDU asap boys, I have a feeling single Chloe isn't going to be on the market for long. Coach's older daughter, Sarahanne 21, is also a looker, although unfortunately she's spoken for according to her facebook profile. If Coach Trestman can make Jay Cutler's mechanics look anywhere nearly as scintillating as his daughters, the Bears will be closing down Michigan Ave for a championship parade in no time. Gotta say this hire is looking better and better by the minute.

Very pleased with the hire. After reading up on the candidates Trestman was my first choice, followed by Arians. The guys just seems to know how to run an offense. I'm very hopeful we can retain most of the defensive coaches and jettison basically all the offensive coaches. This already appears to be underway with Kromer on board as OLine coach / Offensive coordinator.

Cliff Levingston typed this out for some family members who don't follow things as closely as Cliff Levingston does.

'83, QB coach at U of Miami under Jimmy Johnson, coached Bernie Kosar, won national title. '84, Kosar sets school record for passing.
'85-'86, RB coach for the Vikings.
'87, QB coach for Tampa Bay
'88, QB coach for Cleveland Browns (Kosar again)
'89, Offensive coordinator for Browns, when Kosar had his best season, Webster Salughter set the team receiving record and they went to the AFC title game.
'90-'91, OC for the Vikings
'92-'94, practiced law
'95-'96, QB coach and OC for San Francisco, when Jerry Rice set the single season TD and receiving yards record and the 9ers led the NFL in points scored and passing yards. Steve Young speaks glowingly about him.
'97, QB coach for the Lions, when Scott Mitchell had his best season
'98-'00, QB coach and OC for Arizona, when Jake Plummer (in '98) had his best season and the Cards made the playoffs for the first time since 1982
'01-'03, QB coach and then OC for Oakland. 2001, Raiders led the league in total offense and passing yards. Rich Gannon credits Trestman for his development into an MVP.
'04, OC for the Dolphins.
'05-'06, OC for NC State, where he developed Russell Wilson.
'07-'12, Head coach for Montreal Alouettes, taking them to 3 straight title games, losing the first and winning the next 2. Montreal QB Anthony Calvillo won back-to-back MVPs in '09 and '10.

Cliff Levingston's conclusion: if Cutler can't take the next step under Trestman, Cutler simply can't take the next step. Cliff Levingston loves the hire: plenty of former players under Trestman speaking glowingly about him.

Hate it.

He's won in the CFL? Who cares, there's only 8 teams!!! Plus, it's the CFL for God's sake. Anyway, for being such a brilliant offensive mind and QB mentor, it makes you wonder why he's never been around for longer than a couple seasons everywhere he's been. Except for the Alouettes of course.

I expect the trend to continue with this guy.
