BULL CRAP.

We had money. You guys and Riley just thought it was a good idea to bring in Ray Allen instead of a big man like Marcus Camby or something.

I said it then and I say it now, adding Ray Allen when we already had Mike Miller, Shane Battier, James Jones..... so stupid.

you do know marcus camby is currently out with an injury right? what's the point of getting a big who can't even play because he's always injured? he hasnt even been rebounding well for the knicks, he would be another eddy curry to us imo...

You're spitting that powerful revisionist history.

Problem is you were as excited as a school girl at the prospect of Ray joining the Heat 3 weeks before it happened and on the day he made his decision to come to Miami.

Board archives can be a bastard...

So.... all those open looks Miami gets their shooters.....it will be Ray Allen taking them? Wow. Ray Allen is going to set a 3pt record nobody will be able to catch.

This is ironic, because LeBron asked Ray Allen back in July 2010 to join the Heat, and Ray turned them down.

why wouldn’t Allen go to a team that is almost a lock to make the finals again and can offer him a chance to play 20 minutes a night launching wide open 3 pointers?

Sounds like it’d be a hell of a fun way to close out a hall of fame career, at least to me.

I just want to say that I LOVE this recent trend of pulling up contradictory statements from posters.

People make these ridiculously bold claims on here and never get held accountable for them. People use revisionist history and hindsight to make themselves seem clairvoyant.

Of course I know I am opening up the door for this post to be quoted if this ever happens to me.

Sigh, are you guys little kids? I am too old to be acting like people got "ethered"... I am a grown man, so if you want to interact with me, act like you got some sense or I will ignore you.

FACTS : I wanted Camby over Ray Allen FROM DAY ONE. I will post evidence of this. I wanted Camby + Hill, not Lewis + Allen.

FACTS : The -only- reason I celebrated getting Allen, was because, -at the time-, Riley lost out on Camby. Marcus Camby cancelled his meeting with Miami when he saw that Riley wanted to give the LLE to Ray Allen. Camby was not going to take the vet min for us, he wanted the LLE. He cancelled the meeting with the Heat he had scheduled. Then, Ray Allen was ALL WE HAD LEFT.

FACTS : Ray Allen then made all of Heat nation nervous that we were going to end up with NOTHING, no camby, no allen, nobody. So I was very happy that we got SOMETHING. I even answered this very question back then someone asked me "Why are you celebrating ray allen if you wanted camby"

So, considering those -facts-, I had no choice but to hope and pray that the Heat get the free agent we are going after, which was a legendary 3 point shooter. A great addition to have, but IMO not the biggest need.

Then it comes out that Ray Allen turned down twice the contract in BOSTON to accept ours instead. Meanwhile, Camby was trippin' and already was a Knick due to all this.

And you expect me NOT to be happy? Somehow that makes me, what? Revisionist history? I wanted Camby. Riley wanted Allen. Camby goes to Knicks. Allen leaves us hanging, leaves MIA without a committment, we look like we are gonna lose out on everyone, bam, we get Allen to turn down double the money BOS offered him....to play for us.

And you expected me to do what? "Damn brah, oh well nice job riles i guess." ?????????? I'm a Heat fan since you were in diapers, of course, IN THAT SITUATION, my reaction was a legit Heat fan's reaction. Riley got someone to turn down big money to play for us, AGAIN. That is big.

1) I wanted Marcus Camby from DAY ONE. I wanted Riley to ignore Ray Allen and go for Marcus Camby.

StrengthNHonor wrote:Told you guys.

Eat your "we dont need a center" crow now, I hope you choke on it.

Marcus Camby + Grant Hill looks a hell of a lot better now than Ray Allen + Rashard Lewis, don't it?

We don't need to get Ray Allen to do that. Just rest Wade more minutes and look for one of the many free agent wing players. A guy to play SG and sit on the 3pt line is easy to find. Why does it have to be Ray Allen?

I don't know what to say to a guy like you who wants to go small ball forever. If this team had a legitimate Center to play defense and rebound, and even a little scoring liek Camby can do, we are UNSTOPPABLE. It's our biggest weakness. We already have guys like Ray Allen on the roster. Battier and Jones.... and there are FA forwards/guards out there.

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1186517&start=1035#p32480863

2) Allen wasted A LOT of our free agency time making his decision, and I was worried we would end up with nothing. He left Miami "without a committment"... remember that? I was pissed that our (Riley's, not mine) #1 target in Free agency was going to shaft us AND we lost out of Camby.

StrengthNHonor wrote:Unread postby StrengthNHonor on Fri Jul 06, 2012 3:40 pm

Allen has to decide today or we move on. Honestly, how long are we going to let this guy ruin our free agency? This thing started last weekend, and on Monday he was like "I'll visit Miami on thursday!"

he wasted enough of our time. DECIDE TODAY

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS - Guards/Forwards

Marquis Daniels
Michael Redd
Chauncey Billups
Carlos Delfino (36% career 3pt shooter)
Gerald Green

I'm happy, but still I want to mention again that we could have had

Marcus Camby + Grant Hill + Rashard Lewis instead of just Allen + Lewis

I repeated several times that swingmen are in abundance and cheap to sign... but there's only 1 Center in our reach and he wanted to come here for the Mini-MLE we gave to Ray Allen....

SOOOOOOOO...... as you can see. I wanted Camby + Hill. I only celebrated Ray Allen after I thought our free agency was being ruined, that Allen was going to shaft us, and we already lost out on Camby. Then it comes out Allen turned down big money to play for us. In that situation, it is PERFECTLY understandable to be happy for Ray Allen joining my team. Riles got a rival player on a team that hates us to take half the money to play for us. Sure he wasn't my #1 choice, but it's ALL WE HAD LEFT at that point in free agency, and that is a HUGE accomplishment for Riley. Of course I am going to be happy, it's my damn team after all.

Me celebrating that does NOT change the fact that I said I wanted a big man and not Allen. That is NOT revisionist history. That is YOU taking me out of context to make up a fake "owned" scenario so you kiddies can laugh.

Now, life is not about "gotcha" or who is "ethered". Show some respect and have understanding towards other people. You immediately try to create a fake "owned" scenario by taking my quotes OUT OF CONTEXT and then you all laugh like if this was high school or something. It is something on this board that I see is lacking. A LOT of immaturity around here and it needs to stop.

Get back to talking about basketball and stop acting like little kids and hating each other.

Dont take it too hard Strength..it's just a message board, silly things happen.

I hear your message about it not being revisionist history, but With Camby's health issues and age, i think it's safe to say that Allen was a better pickup. i do believe you're being honest, but you were also kinda wrong at the time.

You might have wanted Camby more but you just said this:

I said it then and I say it now, adding Ray Allen when we already had Mike Miller, Shane Battier, James Jones..... so stupid.

Your quotes clearly don't show that you thought it was "......so stupid" at the time. You can say you were excited we got anyone but you clearly didn't think it was so stupid at the time of your previous comments that he quoted.

So your "I said it then" part is off and he was right to call you out on it. I'm completely in favor of accountability because people have such extreme opinions and then flip flop based on the results. As an example I've been saying since year 1 that Miller's contract was horrible and he would never be worth it. Countless posters would taunt me the handful of games that Miller had big games. I stuck with the opinion and now everyone agrees the contract is an albatross but there is no accountability so those same posters will make extreme claims the next time too. Accountability can only improve discourse.

He didn't twist your words. You might have preferred Camby but you didn't think signing Allen was so stupid then. You were celebrating.

I clearly already explained why I celebrated. It doesn't mean that I don't think going for Allen over Camby was stupid. We could have signed any number of perimeter players.

You can have one without the other. It is really not hard to understand, this is not black and white.

I was vehemently against the Iraq war. I thought it was stupid from the get go. But I sure cheered when Bush declared Mission Accomplished and that all major combat ops were done. Why? BECAUSE I AM AN AMERICAN. I am also a Heat fan. There is no other option but victory (due to a war forced upon me), and there was no other option (at the time) than Ray Allen (due to Riley forcing him upon me). Still does not change the fact that I would have liked Riley to make Camby #1 priority instead. Being happy my country won the war and cheering does not magically make me "for" the war. Being happy that Riley did not strike out after gambling -everything- on Ray Allen, and got him to take half of what BOS was offering, does not magically make me "for" Ray Allen. I was for Camby.

This is not hard to understand. Now drop it, you and your buddies that laughed were wrong. I would have had to have wanted Ray Allen from the start, then only now saying I wanted Camby instead, THAT would make you correct.

But that is not what happened. So, please, man up and drop it. You were wrong.
