Also, what about Villanueva in Detroit? He gives us more spacing to operate with, and is a decent rebounder. Defense is probably average. Contract is an extra year, but he can become an expiring next deadline to work with or in the off-season.
Always liked either of Davis or Amir Johnson as backups but as is, the team is barely finding any time for the back up PFs we do have.
Villanueva is bad value for his contract and can't defend a paper bag. Detroit is mostly playing him in the attempt to save their amnesty by getting some team to bite but I'll admit he's producing.....for now. Guy's motivation is so up and down that it might just be a big risk for little reward, he was too fat to even make Team DR with Al last summer.

Perkins just has such tremendously horrific value that more sweetener would have to be added to that such as Lamb to justify not only taking that contract back but giving up on Horford.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread
If we were to upgrade our current bigs, assuming none of them aren't included in a trade, Tolliver and Petro could be cut, Mike Scott is already factored out, and Ivan is supposedly falling out of favor. So their are minutes that could be had. Davis could easily be one of the first bigs off the bench, and spot starter.
I felt the same about CV. I just think if we were to obtain him, he could strengthen our bench with some fire power. At 6'11, I wouldn't mind running him out there against opposing teams 2nd units and let him light them up. Heck, he could do that against someones starters as well. Better than having Petro and Tolliver sit on the bench and take minutes. Just speculating though.
Overall, I just think besides finding a true center, we could use an upgrade backing up the 4, so we don't have to depend on both Josh and Al not getting hurt. Just not comfortable with our current options.

Man, I'd hate to pay someone else just so I didn't have to play Ivan. Maybe Drew will repent of that attitude. Or maybe he's playing head game with Ivan and - hopefully - intends to keep him.
I just like Ivan coming off the bench.

What do you guys think of Hortford, Williams, and Korver for Dwight? I am almost certain he would resign with you guys considering he is good friends with J. Smith and is from Atlanta.

Not really sure of the reason when we could possibly bring Dwight in this offseason. Yes he would make more money but having Horford, Dwight, Josh would be a great combo.

Timofey Mozgov is on the block. Denver would probably want shooting back. I would try a deal with Morrow and draft pick(since I doubt we are looking to add salary through the draft) for Mozgov if its a salary cut kinda deal.

Yep. But at this point, it'd just be addition by subtraction. We can take his $13m and spend it elsewhere.
We just need a divorce. After almost ten years together.
He'll do well wherever he ends up. He plays amazingly when he has a chip on his shoulder.

Those 3 only add up to 7m.
Cole comes off the book so it's only 2 playes at 4m total

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread
Oh look, it's the same trade I proposed 20 pages back just worse. If certain people on this board didn't like it then, they won't like it now. You have to realize the absurdity with Smith trade proposals is that people feel that just short of Kevin Durant needs to come back in exchange because A) the team is giving up on a HOF talent just in need of a light bulb going off in their head and B) Dwight Howard is dying to come join said HOF talent and spark that bulb. So any trade has to take into account the tremendous value the Hawks are giving up and compensate accordingly.
Then there are others that would give him up for a bag of potato chips just to get him gone.
Me personally, I'd prefer Jones and Motiejunas as they have higher potential ceilings than Patterson and Morris but alas, this is something that we can discuss as part of a sign and trade in the offseason. I don't see any rush for a deal between the two teams to get done now.

Even with the risk of Josh walking away for nothing this summer?

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread
Very little risk in regards to Houston. If Josh is interested in Houston he'll have to realize that they don't have max capspace so those assets will have to be considered being moved to achieve that goal, why not as part of a sign and trade to Atlanta? Even if he's willing to take less, Houston would still be looking to get rid of the half dozen tweeners they already have on roster before adding him making them very likely to deal.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread
Rockets have max cap space, but I wouldn't worry.
There is little to no chance Daryl Morey would spend that on Josh Smith. He is a very intriguing player, lots of jaw dropping moments, but his production is just not worth max dollars. Thats not to say some team wouldn't pony up that amount of money (like Dallas) but Morey just doesn't give out of bad contracts.

True but as I've said for some time, regardless of price, if Morey does covet Smoove then he would most like look to consolidate the Rockets forward corps. If he can turn the medley of Motiejunas, Jones, Smith, Aldrich, Patterson, Morris and even White into other assets from elsewhere then sure but there's little reason to think that he wouldn't swap 2-3 of them directly as they'd surely not get playing time and thus lose value with Smith there.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread
He would likely approach the situation by assigning a value to Smith, probably in the 8-11 million dollar range and then go out and offer him that in free agency.
Once he uses up cap space, I think then he would start looking to trade his pieces because its a better way to use your available resources. If they did what you said, they would be capped out and have no smaller pieces to trade, no cap space and no way to improve.
Its a little convoluted but, he has a bunch of rookie scale, expiring and non guaranteed guys. Basically the only major pieces are Harden (14m) , Asik (8m) and Lin (8m). I honestly don't see him trading away assets until his cap space is filled up, then he can look to add more.
For example:
Suppose his options are:
A.) Sign Milsap for 10 m, and Mo Williams for 5 m , then trade Dmo/Jones, etc for whomever.
B.) Sign Smith for 15 m, then trade Dmo/Jones, etc for whomever.
C.) Trade pieces for Smith, have no cap space and no tradeable pieces.
He is going to go with option A, pretty much all day long because thats how the moneyball theory works.
