Kosta Koufos

Post#1 » by Greek » Thu Jan 17, 2013 11:39 am

As a big fan of him, i always interested about his progress, but its really hard for me to catch any games of Denver since Cyprus is 9 hours ahead. Ive notice some increase in his scoring, and his minutes the last 2 months, so i want to know if he looks better at the court too.

Thanks for any responses.

He's been really good this year, statistically our second best defender and good enough offensively to finish layups/dunks etc so he is useful on both ends of the court.

He's a solid player that does the right things without being spectacular which is all you can ask from him. I guess if you look for any criticisms it's that he does go into "Doufos mode" a few times where he fouls players for no reason or has butter fingers and botches passes.

A steal for us at 3M per through the next 3 years. If he was a free agent, he'd be looking at 6-8M per considering how much bigs get paid these days.

Koufos looks much more comfortable now then he did at the beginning of the season, and the rest of the team seems to have built some trust in his abilities so that when teams leave him open he gets the ball usually. I will say that across the board his stats are holding up with more minutes, outside of rebounding which has decreased, but his shot blocking has increased and they are the good kind of blocked shots, more of the man to man straight up blocks that end up staying on the court and in play, not the flashy throw the ball to the stands type of blocks that accomplish very little.

When i saw him last time (with the Greek NT) he was very right hand dominant with good hook shot, he had nice shot from 12-16f, and he he could put the ball at the floor using 2-3 dribbles for straight lines drive. He was good finishing around the rim, with soft touch, and strong enough to absorb some contact. Is he is showing those qualities?

On his D, shot blocking was his best attribute, but what i didnt like from him, it was the fact that was letting his opponent to past him, and was trying to block him from behind. Is he still doing the same?

He seems to use his left hand enough to keep defenders honest and yes he is still able to put the ball on the floor if he has a little room. His strength & finishing also do not seem to be a problem, but I will say that he has not taken many jumpshots outside of 7-10 feet, but when he does he is fine. I rarely see him take a shot or do something that makes m wonder what he was thinking.

As for D, his shot blocking for the most part seems to be a bunch of blocks that come from face up defense and help defense. Once in a while someone will get by him, but for the most part he has been very good at man to man defense, slowing down some of the best big men in the NBA.

Overall Koufos is lacking in top end athleticism, and will never be a flashy guy, but he is a very solid steady 5th starter type that does what you want from your 5th guy on the court.

We just need a good team doctor to transplant Koufos' brain into McGee

I've been hyping this guy forever on other blogs cause I really believe in him too. I used to get hated on for this, but now he's finally (kinda) getting mainstream recognition. The best part is he's young and the best is yet to come.

Go Nuggets!

Greek: Go to this site. http://www.mixmakers.net/forums/f60/
There you can download every NBA game. It's free if you don't mind slower download. I bought account on uploaded.to for like 6 euros/month and it's just perfect.
