Re: Rumors: Bobcats, Bulls, Kings three-team discussions
Why do people say that waiting to use the bobcats pick in 2016 is "wasting time"? Do they think the Bulls organization is going to fold and not play games after then? Derrick Rose will be entering his prime then. We're already a contender now. While I want to strengthen our contention if we can, it shouldn't be at the cost of fielding a contender during Rose's prime. We have to remember that having Rose and Thibbs and any 11 guys is pretty much always going to keep us from getting a top pick, so other than free agency, the best bet for high level talent for Rose's prime (like age 26-32) is the bobcats pick and Mirotic. Those two shouldn't be touched unless it's for a star player IMO. I'm not saying we should bank on the bobcats pick and Mirotic being great, I'm saying they are our best chance at contending in Rose's prime.

Re: Rumors: Bobcats, Bulls, Kings three-team discussions
I'm not pounding my fist at the table for any variation of the deals discussed in this thread, but I do think at some point the Bulls have to make a call on the Bobcats pick. There are two things being left to chance here:
1) the probability the CHA pick winds up being a good lottery pick
2) the probability the player picked actually pans out (i.e., Aminu #8 vs. Paul George #10 in 2010)
Multiplying those two leads to pretty small odds of landing an impact player, so the Bulls would be wise to compare that vs. the certainty of improving the current roster...whenever the right deal comes about.

I agree teams can stay bad for a while....In fact, I'm not even sure when the Bobcats will make the playoffs again. But at some point in the next few years they will have good enough talent, coaching, and luck to win 30-35 games and we get a late lotto pick
The best analogue is the protected TWolves pick that the Clippers owned since 2005. Even though Minny has years of bad drafting and losing records, due to the protection it wound up being just a #10 pick when it was conveyed this last draft. So yea, let's just keep holding out for that next Austin Rivers...
In order for the Bobcats to make the jump to a 30-35 win team, other teams in the league will need to significantly digress over the next few years. What teams are going to replace the Bobcats in the bottom five in that time span? Even teams like the Cavs, Raptors, Wizards, Pelicans etc. have brighter futures. I just don't see the Bobcats making that jump. They don't have the talent and the franchise is way too dysfunctional. Our organization surely has statisticians who crunch the numbers on the odds of where the Bobcats pick will ultimately end up. It is up to GarPax to gamble on those odds, and I for one, trust them to make the right decision.

One deal that works under the CBA (but we don't know if the teams have proposed) would have the Bulls take Jason Thompson, Jeffrey Taylor or Jimmer Fredette, along with a pick from Charlotte, the Bobcats get Rip Hamilton and their pick back from the Bulls, and the Kings taking Gerald Henderson and Nazr Mohammed.
If that Char pick back is unprotected, yes.
Could we flip Boozer (while hot), [Bel?] and our 1st for Aaron Affalo and Josh McRoberts (filler)?
Imagine if that 1st turned in Shabazz.
Rose - Hinrich - Teague - Jimmer
Affalo - Shabazz - Jimmer
Deng - Butler
Gibson - Thompson
Noah - Thompson - 2nd Rd

Teams can stay bad for a very long time but usually not top-5 bad for 5+ years. The closest recent comparable teams would be Sacramento and the Wizards... both dysfunctional franchises that continued to draft low BBIQ and weak-minded players. I don't see Cho & Co. doing the same in Charlotte year in and year out. The MKG pick would support that.

Fair enough, I forgot they had Cho. He's got a pretty good track record. He's gonna have to hit some home runs in the next couple years though. Make that grand slams.

Re: Rumors: Bobcats, Bulls, Kings three-team discussions
I really think that Char would be very very very interested in getting that pick back. couple of years from now they find out that they have to give up a top 3 or top 5 pick for TYRUS THOMAS????? If they can somehow help us and end up with that pick back in their compound? Oh yeah.
I said it about a month back, I wouldn't be surprised if they were VERY INTERESTED in getting back that baby. Now with the impact on their ability to trade OTHER 1st rounders due to our option potentially blocking them (can't trade a 1st rounder for 2 straight years, correct?). I think they would be very interested.

we are going to have to hope rose doesnt suffer another year ending injury. we have to hope that the bobcat pick nets us a top 2 pick in 2016 cause if we wait all these damn years for a 10th pick we really wasted our time, we have to hope mirotic comes from across seas and will take MLE money and also be the next dirk cause if he comes here and dont adjust to the game well, then we put a lot of stock into him for nothing.
imo we need to sell high, build a contender now with the assets we do have, and while the legit roster is in place competing every year, gather more assets so we can turn the corner in the 2nd part of rose career. but we literally throwing the next 2 seasons in the bushes and banking on a lot of possibilities
meanwhile a lot of teams can get a lot better in that time frame. no telling who the lakers surround d12 and kobe with, the clippers will only get better, durant and westbrook still sitting over there, the knicks keep getting better, the nets keep getting better, the pacers are getting better, and then you still have the heat, with lebron and no telling who in 2014 will join forces with lebron.
so its better to take them shots now at a title, while the league is showing us its a opening there to take it, before pat riley builds a legit dynasty in miami, because once they grab the rebounders, its pretty much over for the rest of the league. once durant and westbrook figure it out and mature, we can wrap it up.
the league aint to that point yet where its like the 90's bulls era where we knew no one could beat them period. but soon it will become that way.
if the bobcats want that pick back so bad, then milk them to get us a legit piece that fills a void. bobcats got some pieces that could help us pry tyreke from the kings. bobcats could help us get kevin love if we play **** right. bobcats could help us get eric gordon. those are just examples. may be other players that are on the brink of bouncing from they teams but could come here and the bulls would put legit fear in the league.
if we are serious about winning it all, then thats how we should be thinking. if the next couple of seasons are a wash, and we banking so much on mirotic and the bobcat pick paying off for us, then why not blow this **** up, and gather more assets from moving deng and noah and we start from scratch.
why the front office content on bs'ing us into thinking they really trying to win it all, but all the moves are mediocre, and the front office apologist want us to understand they have a future plan but they putting a "just good enough" team on the floor that will break our hearts every season.
just wish this front office would make some legit moves
What? Why is the default response for not trading a player or pick always for an at best marginal upgrade "overvaluing an asset"? The pick doesn't have to be one or two in 2016 for it to have a good player taken. I'm assuming you would make this deal with the best thing you get is a first round pick this year. So you select and player and STILL have to wait for that player to develop so that is wasting years off Rose's career isn't it. Why do yo have fear of the Pacers a team the Bulls beat in five games in the playoffs? The Heat don't have any money and they just can't get any rebounder's with the style of defense they play. The need a certainly level of quickness and athleticsm so go ahead let them plodding forwards who can't trap and recover off pick and roll I'll be very happy to see the Bulls play against them.
Have we not seen Howard on a team that digressed with him in Orlando. Can we see the Clippers get to the west finals first. The Nets aren't going to get better and the Knicks are overrated by the media every year. I like a healthy Bulls team matching up against the Thunder. Apparently everybody else is going to get better despite some of the teams you mentioned having no cap space, decent picks, or talented/trade enabling contracts. You're doing nothing more than crying at ghosts. Please tell me some of the big moves you would have made the last two seasons.
its overvaluing it when the front office looks more into the possibility of those assets rather than balance they options out and look into proven commodities that helps us win now. all the if ands and buts i pointed out are valid. mirotic better be a all star when he comes, cause if he not we are going to look like idiots. can anybody be so sure he will be? can we be sure he will come over the MLE money? how certain are we that the bobcats will suck for much longer to the point we land a top 5 pick in 2016? and as you said, if you saying a top 5 aint necessarily that vital to us, and you saying we can grab a gem in the mid teens, how sure are you that the 2016 draft class will be that deep to grab a gem? what if no one can help us at all after the first 5 picks? why would we continue on banking our future on all these uncertainties?
the lakers with no cap space and the highest pay roll in the league, found a way to get dwight howard and steve nash on they squad. so dont be so sure because a team dont have cap space that they cant make moves. and my opinion on the heat was down the line in 2014 cause at that time wade and bosh can come off the books for them and again no telling who will go and join forces with lebron and wade if they decide bosh goes. ny went from a 8th seed to 2nd in the east and thier front office makes moves. sometimes it backfires but what if it doesnt this time? for the nets, see what was said about the lakers. look the point is, the league dictates now, and maybe next season the door is a bit open for a lot of teams to possibly make some minor moves and become title contenders. we dont want to bank on all these possibilities those assets have down the line, miss our shot to go for it now, when we are obviously close just need to tweak a bit, and by time mirotic comes and the bobcat pick nets us a top 10 pick, it wont matter cause the heat would have convinced bosh to go elsewhere and bogut comes to them on MLE money and zach randolph joins them for 10 mill. if that happens we can forget it. and if spolstra dont get it done this season, you can guarantee they will have another coach by then.
why risk that? opportunity is knocking now, we should take advantage. if the bobcats want they pick back so bad (of course thats speculation) lets milk them to get other pieces to solidify us as contenders. we cant possibly think we have it all right now can we? we are not that naive are we? kevin love wants to leave minny, the kings have tyreke who could help us greatly and become a great running mate with rose, we still need a back up 5 and a 6th man of the year candidate off the bench wouldnt hurt either. so why not go for that now, make a move toward winning a title this year and next year then in 2014 guys still comes off the books, the amnesty is still there for boozer, the flexibility is still there. how can making these moves hurt our future? if we win a title, will getting mirotic be that damn important? i rather use the rights from him to net us a proven nba commodity. remember a lot of people thought darko milicic would be great over here too. we saw how that turned out.
and if we are planning to just gear up for the future, then why not sell deng high and get great assets to use in the draft or trade him for younger talent with a cheaper contract? why not do the same with noah? why not start from scratch? nope, front office just wants to put a "good enough" team on the floor for us but not a legit contender. this dont make sense to me.
we cant possibly think we are going to strike it big in free agency again do we? and really who can we sign in 2014 that will first off leave they current team and 2 become difference makers enough to help us win it all. pierce and dirk will be too damn old by then. wade and lebron aint going no where. if we banking on mirotic then no need to go after zbo. who we signing in 2014?

They are interested no doubt but I don't think they can or will give up a top 5 this year. If they do I say trade it a top 5 now is better than one in the bush. The pick is way more valuable to them than us because of the handcuffs they have on until 2016. If it is possible to get their pick now I would do it because it may be that high in 2016 but it also very well may not be. I wouldn't lose a trade though because well we have nothing to lose. Also this may be a weak draft class perhaps but who says 2016 wouldn't be weak? Even 2014 who is to say Jabari is going to be better than Muhammed. The draft is always difficult in years that don't have Lebron or Duncan.

You can check the threads about the Love situation in Minny. He hasn't asked out and Minnesota isn't inclined to trade him this year. One of the things that would be moved for him though is the future Charlotte pick. For all the moves the might Lakers have made none of them have worked out recently. You piss on Mirotic but guess what if he was in this year's draft he would be it's best player by far. Mirotic would have been a lottery pick if it wasn't for his oversea's contract two season's ago. So I don't need another rookie who doesn't project to better then a player already coming over for yes the MLE. Plus Darko isn't anything close to the skill level of Mirotic. I don't know how to respond to the rest of the nonsense about the Bobcats who have a terrible roster with no high trade assets or the foolishness about the heat.
Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.

I don't think anyone is saying not to "take a shot" now.
But Jason Thompson is NOT "taking a shot". He's a mediocre 4th big who will not really push this team over the top. He's not worth the downgrade from the Bobcats' pick to the Blazers' pick.
If, instead, we get Tyreke Evans or Marcus Thornton (instead of Thompson), then sure, I'd "take a shot" on one of those guys (along with the Blazers' pick, hoping they stay in the playoff picture so that we get a mid-first rounder this year). But I don't see Sacramento trading those guys without getting a lot more in return.

Why are people talking only about 2016? If I am not mistaken about the Charlotte's pick protection, we could be getting a lottery pick in 2014 or 2015 ...

That's why we have to get JThomp AND Bobcats unpro 1st (not the Blazers Pick). That first can turn into Shabazz or McLemore, and they're dif makers. Plus with JT, Boozer becomes extremly expendable.
We don't want Tyreke. He's a RFA, will get paid, and leave after a year and then we just lost our lolcats pick. As for Thornton, he'd interest me, but I don't SAC does this trade period.

Re: Rumors: Bobcats, Bulls, Kings three-team discussions
[/quote]You can check the threads about the Love situation in Minny. I don't know how to respond to the rest of the nonsense about the Bobcats who have a terrible roster with no high trade assets or the foolishness about the heat.
you have totally went away from the point all together. you are picking at small points and ignoring the motive of the post in the first place
its like im saying "that red truck came onto the curb and hit 6 kids" and you reply "the truck aint red" lol that aint the point lol
the talk of love, tyreke, etc are just examples. there are plenty of players we can start working toward trying to obtain and we can pimp the bobcats who have valuable assets to make that happen. the main point is, our window is short cause the future aint guaranteed. and the league is telling us that with thibs coaching, the defense and the rebounding, if we just add a couple of pieces, we can legitimately compete for a ring right now.
but we are going to sit back, let time fly, other teams will make moves and we sat on our hands watching the world spin, hoping mirotic will be our savior. im not saying he not talented, im just saying thats asking a lot.
how is what i said about the heat nonsense? so its not possible the heat could talk bosh to leaving and they cant get zbo and another big to come down there and join forces with wade and lebron? how is that so far fetched?
guess what if we load up now, it wont matter cause we would already be a championship team ready for war.
instead we are going to be praying the bobcat pick gets us a game changer and hoping mirotic is the 2nd coming of dirk, cause if both of those dont pan out, we will be looking back saying, we had a shot and was so close to winning it all, but we waiting around, let other teams get better and now we become the atlanta hawks of the east, good enough to always make the playoffs, never good enough to really challenge for a ring.

Please tell me the high value assets the Bobcats have that the Bulls could use to get an established player when Charlotte hasn't even been able to do that themselves. Here is where your logic falls apart. You can't piss on the fact that Mirotic could be a high level player and yet make it seem like a high pick in this draft is guaranteed to be a multiple all-star caliber player. You won't to see if he is good but you'll wait for that 2013 drafted player though? The scenario you paint for the Heat is a hell of a lot more out their than waiting for Mirotic or the Charlotte pick. Again though tell me they players who are available that the Bulls could get that makes them considerably better.

Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.

Re: Rumors: Bobcats, Bulls, Kings three-team discussions
If we get Thompson it's clear that Boozer is then amnestied or traded for crap. There's no room on the team for him otherwise.
What I'm interested in is Rip+Hinrich+Nazr+1st for Marcus Thornton and Jeff Taylor. Screw our lack of a PG for the near future. We sign a couple of 10 days to string along as Rose builds his strength back up, give Teague minutes to develop.
Rose/Teague
Taylor/Thornton
Deng/Butler
Boozer/Gibson (Mirotic)
Noah/Gibson
is a serious contending team, in my opinion.

I feel like my minds playing tricks on me only because I like shiny new things. Then again a future lotto pick in a deeper draft is new and shiny. MY GOD!
