Not a great night tonight but Beal has been unbelievably good lately. He has superstar written all over him, hopefully he pans out

some people use the term "superstar" very loosely, and I'm not trying to disrespect Beal at all.

Only bright spot Vs the Bucks. Along with LMA's rebounding

Beal getting his season 3pt % to 36 is pretty amazing considering dude was like 28% a few weeks ago.

He's playing better now, give him some credit. He wont sustain his January numbers the rest of the year either but it wouldn't be shocking to see him end around 16ppg on 43% / 37% for the year which is decent enough for a rookie.

He was playing next to Jordan Crawford/AJ Price for much of the season..

Bird, Stockton, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Tim Duncan are all time greats because of how tremendously skilled they were. Roy is not in this company. Its an insult on your own knowledge of the game to even assert that.
The two were not related points. I think you're underrating Roy, and I also think you're underrating the importance of skill versus athleticism, but they are not the same point.

What do you mean? They are overachieving because Lillard has turned out to be better sooner than anyone except the Portland front office expected. They're making eyes at the playoffs but will likely slow down in the last quarter of the season and miss it barely, and considering the team they have that's pretty decent.
They have a fantastic starting 5, even if C is weak, but absolutely nothing on the bench.

the least productive bench any NBA team has had for years and it's starting to catch up to them as the starters log too many minutes
Batum is 3rd in the league in avg minutes & Lillard is 5th in the league at 38.5, and that's too many minutes for a rookie, especially for a rookie PG who other teams are doubling constantly and playing very physical against.
Lillard has a lot of areas he needs to improve on, but perhaps the most impressive part of what he's done so far is that he's producing while being the main focus of other teams' defenses, Lillard has replaced Aldridge in that regard. The #1 priority of opponents is to take the ball out of Lillard's hands. I don't think there's any other rookie that is getting that kind of defensive pressure. Not even close

Re: The OFFICIAL Rookie impressions thread pt. II
So who have been the best rooks defensively so far this season? We all know Lillard is far and away the best offensively right now (though January Beal is up there), though he hasn't been great defensively that's to be expected considering the load he carries offensively.
Drummond and AD have both been solid, but I think Drummond's strength has allowed him to be a superior man to man defender than AD for now and his ability to protect the paint and change shots is game changing. The surprising thing is how immediate the impact was, he was doing it from the first week of the season. Their steals/blocks numbers are almost even despite Drummond playing 10 less mins. per (admittedly not the best measure of defensive impact). The Pistons defense changes dramatically when he's in there.
On the perimeter it has to be either Jeff Taylor or Terrence Ross, though it's harder to gauge a wing players impact than a bigs on D. That said, Ross has looked elite with his cut off ability and overall activity, while Taylor uses his strength and fundamentals to disrupt offensive players (really get a Battier vibe from him on D). I have Ross with a slight edge right now simply due to the numbers he's holding opponents too:
Opponent's Production Per-48 Against Ross: eFG: .384, TO: 3.2, PER: 9.9
That said, much of this is being completely wasted by Casey as he won't consistently use Ross in key situations.
I expect Ross, Taylor and Harkless to end up the best perimeter defenders from this draft and there's no chance any of the other bigs will approach the 2 AD's level.

Re: The OFFICIAL Rookie impressions thread pt. II
Beal hasn't been a lockdown wing defender, but he's been solid. He'll never be like...tony allen or anything but I could see some real potential there. Not exactly sure what would be the best case scenario defensively...Wes Matthews?
I've only seen Drummond a little, but he's just stupid big and he was a terror in the paint defensively, against the wiz at least. 3 blocks per 36 is pretty good.
