I'm not talking about TV in general: just that the quality of news/opinion/info programs on television aren't of the same quality as they were 5-10, even 20 years ago. (Although, if you consider 24 smart television, maybe these are wasted words...)
Television is no longer the primary source of information; programmers are no longer sinking big bucks into strong fact-checking or in-depth analysis when people aren't watching for those reasons. That's the point.

I'm with the majority on this one. For the past year or more I've been tuning into ESPNEWS to get the highlights since Sportscenter and everyother sport-specific show they have is garbage.
I like the guys idea of having Buster and Tim replace Phillips and Kruk full time. But te glory days are goen folks. BRING BACK HAROLD REYNOLDS!

You should see me after a few beers. I get snooty and grabby.

That wasn't Phillips; that was Jim Duquette.

For all his misgivings, Dan was a pretty good GM. He netted us Manny, Pedro, Nixon, and Varitek/Lowe.

baseball tonight is OK. but it's nothing i'd really want to watch if something else was on. i feel like i know more then 1/2 the guys on it. espically phillips he's god-awful. he tries to neglect the mets in every achievement they do (picks the phils for 1st place this yr?!?!).
i think the worst part of ESPN's baseball coverage is the games. when they have the mets on, it's really unwatchable. they don't have a clue what they're talking about, and they usually stray away from the game and talk about national issues.
why can't ESPN have a trio when covering a game, and the third guy be different every time? like, they'd pick a former manager or player to be color anaylst, and they can talk to him about past experiences with the club and what he thinks today. i think it'd be a great idea and very easy to do. ex. braves vs mets. why not have a john franco be color anaylst for the day? you know he'd do it in a heart beat.

I'm pretty sure you dont know 1/100 of what Steve Phillips knows. the guy knows people, and he knows the game. Just because we think we can do a better job than these guys doesn't mean we can. They have contacts we could only dream of having

Give any person those same "contacts" and they do a better job than Phillips. Easily.

phillips is the same guy who wanted to trade away reyes for alomar. but the indians wanted escobar instead. he's also the same guy who wanted to trade david wright for juan cruz jr. you can go down the list of awful moves the guy has done. phillips states things i could say. nothing is mind boggling or even impressive that comes out of his mouth. you give me the connections he has and i'd do a better job. the "contacts" somebody has doesn't make someone a good anaylst.
olney/gammons/kurkjan are the guys who are impressive, and say some funky stat everyday, and it's truely intresting to hear.
