Offcial Pistons NBA Trade Deadline Thread 2/21/13
The Deadline is now officially one month away meaning teams are going to start buying for the present and selling for the future. Realistically, Moose, Knight, Prince and Drummmond are not going anywhere and we cannot trade our pick.
This leaves our..."assets"
Assets:
Kyle Singler - Decent 2nd unit player on a good Contract
Corey Magettte - Money Saver
Rodney Stuckey - Backup ComboGuard
Austin Daye - Expiring Contract
Charlie V - Stretch 4
Jason Maxiell - Backup Big on Expiring Contract
Jonas Jerebko - Worth Nothing at this point
Will Bynum - Backup PG and Expiring Contract
Kim English - No Value
Khris Middleton - No Value
Slava - No Value
Assets likely not to be moved:
Will Bynum - Dre likes him and so does JoeD
Kyle Singler - Rookie on a cheap deal. Has been thrown into talks about our "Core" by KL
Kim English: No Value because he's a second round prospects with no playing time
Khris Middleton" "
Slava - " "
Which Leaves:
Charlie V
Maxiell
Stuckey
Daye
Magette
What can we get?
Wilson Chandler
Fills a need for perimeter defense in our second unit and also for our SL in the future and he's getting no minutes. Has 3 years left on his deal after this year + getting less than 20mpg at this point.
What would it take to get him?
Stuckey + Max for Anthony Randolph & Wilson Chandler?
ANy other thoughts? I'll add them to the OP.

Just wait until the offseason and throw big bucks at Mayo. Although, I wouldn't mind trying to acquire a serviceable backup center for Maxiell/Daye so Drummond can start.

Re: Offcial Pistons NBA Trade Deadline Thread 2/21/13
I bet we do nothing. Joe Dumars will think this team could sneak into the 8th seed in the play-offs as is and that's more valuable than selling for late first rounders in a bad draft. Our only guy who I think would have positive basketball value in any trade that is available is Stuckey.
I have a sneaking feeling that we'll re-sign Maxiell this off-season.

Last night I was thinking if we decide to trade Stuckey this may be good deal...
Pistons get: Harris, Hawks 2013 1st rounder
Hawks get: Stuckey, Bynum
In this deal we get a mid 1st rounder and a veteran PG to help Knight...We also get a big expiring deal...Hawks get a back-up PG and a SG to replace Lou Williams since he went down with an ACL injury...

CGC I do not see Tay's name anywhere in that original post. Granted he is unlikely to be moved.

I'd be interested to know which good players in this league could be acquired. Who's on the block now and possibly this off-season.

I don't see how Stuckey, CV31 and Jonas are assets:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/asset
I fully expect Joe to stand pat, give Max & Bynum each 3 year/15 mil extensions, give OJ Mayo a 4 year/45mil deal and we just keep rolling on the treadmill.

Hawks aren't going to give up a chance at bringing Dwight home to ATL with his buddy Josh Smith to add Stuckey.

I would love that deal if the pick wasn't protected. I think the Hawks still end up in the lottery this year.

Re: Offcial Pistons NBA Trade Deadline Thread 2/21/13
As a follow up to CGC's team assets I thought it would help to list some players of interest and what it might cost...
This list is just a starting point and up for debate...
High Cost... a top player in return (exluding Drummond, Monroe) and/or lotto pick (top 3 protected):
Afflalo 7.7 Mil
Josh Smith 13.2 exp
Rondo 11
MKG 4.6
Varajeo 8.3
Mayo 4.0
Wilson Chandler 5.9
Harrison Barnes 2.7
Rudy Gay 16.4
Eric Gordon 13.6
Shumpert 1.6
Thad Young 8.2
Batum 10.8
Cousins 3.8
Milsap 8.6
Paul George 2.5
Medium Cost... our 5-10 talent range or 10-30 draft Pick:
Devin Harris 8.5 exp
Avery Bradley 1.6
Sullinger 1.3
Kaman 8.0
Darren Collison 2.3
Beabois 2.2 exp
Cory Brewer 3.2
Klay Thompson 2.2
Danny Granger 13M
Bledsoe 1.7
Earl Clark 1.2
Aminu 2.9 exp
Austin Rivers 2.2
Eric Maynor 2.3
Kevin Martin 12.4
Kawhi Leonard 1.8
Harkless 1.7
I left out some of the premier talent cause I'm not sure we have the assets or they would be willing to part with them.
Feel free to add or change the market value of players you think may fit
Would like to follow this up with team strengths & needs... this might help narrow the targets down to 10 or so.

I'm cool with standing pat unless a no-brainer trade comes through. We have an extremely bright outlook with money to pay the right FA. Whatever we'd get for our "assets" we can get in the 1st round.

Who is "the right FA"? Sure, we have the money to sign Lebron or Chris Paul but they aren't walking through that door.

Sadly these are my thoughts exactly. I highly doubt we do anything but stand pat and let the season play out

There are a lot of guys we can go after. I could see Mayo signing here for the right price. Our bench needs some serious work too so I hope Dumars can bring in some good role players.

You're gonna get lebron or chris paul with the assets we're making available?
The "right FA" is the best player available when our expirings hit and we have the room to sign someone. That's going to be the reality of the situation like or not.

Well Free Agent wise, the young commodity is OJ Mayo. Chandler is an asset we can trade for. Both those guys can push us over the top IMO.

Any chance we can land a guy like Reddick in a trade? Probably can't offer more than Jonas without ruining chemistry.
Afflalo also appears to be unhappy..and the look like they're aboard the tank
Jonas, Maggette, Stuckey for Afflalo and Reddick
Knight/Bynum
Afflalo/Redick
Prince/Singler
Monroe/CV
Drummond/Max
OR
Jonas + Middleton for Reddick
Stuckey, Singler for Wilson Chandler
Sign OJ Mayo

I like the first trade more than the second. I think we can do something like that if they're looking for expirings. I would do those trades.

Re: Offcial Pistons NBA Trade Deadline Thread 2/21/13
i think JJ , Daye, stuckey will be on the block. but its going to have to be for a impact now player or great deal. With us making this push, i don't see Joe D messing with the chemistry. We'll more than likely resign bynum, which is more a product of dre than bynum, maxiell will be resigned depending on how Krav develops. i think Daye has to make a push, or the FO is going to go with Middleton looking forward.
i don't think we make a huge splash at the trade deadline or FA. i think we'll resign some players and add more productive players at key positions. which i'm not too upset about
