I'm just not sold on McLemore being a star in the NBA. That's all. I have no problem with being proven wrong though if he becomes a part of our team but don't say I didn't tell you all so when he doesn't pan out to be anything but another Hendo. They're very similar in my opinion now that Hendo is hitting the 3 when you compare their athleticism, defensive intensity, lack of aggression, and inconsistent offense.

Don't you think that if Hendo had a three point shot when he came into the league that he would be a star by now? Please keep in mind that it has taken Hendo FIVEYEARS to develop what little three point shot he has now. I know from my perspective if Hendo had been nailing threes all of this time I would be the first one screaming to resign him. He would quite likely be a 18 ppg player if he had a consistent 3 point shot.

What's Hendo's excuse for not being a 18 PPG player now? He never even had a per 36 average of over 17 points. It's the lack of aggression and consistency that make me skeptical. If we're planning on drafting McLemore then we might as well keep Hendo. That's just how I see it.

No chance that he is only a 16 ppg scorer because he never goes off for 4 or 5 threes in a game is there? Is it possible that might have something to do with it?

I suppose it's a fair point though, there are definitely not that many that come from outside the top 10 but my point was that there were several top guys that underperformed as well. I certainly prefer Shabazz to McLemore, but I wouldn't be upset with either.

I said "superstar". Blake Griffin might be the closest to being considered as such but he's no superstar, just a all-star.

Note: Dwyane Wade might be the only exception of my statement over the past decade.

Well, like I said ESPN only has record of the top 100 classes since '07, and I didn't feel the need to try to track down anything prior to that. There are so few "superstars" anyway, let alone those that have cemented themselves since the high school class of '07 (plus it's subjective). I suppose though if Griffin and Harden aren't superstars than the only ones from that class would be Love (number 1), and Rose (5). If any of those 4 were in this draft I'd take them number 1, subjective superstar or not. Your point is that you'd rather have a guy who has been highly touted since high school, and that's fair; but my point is that just because a guy is a high recruit doesn't mean he WILL be a superstar. We're not exactly saying things that are mutually exclusive if you think about it. But I'm bored so let's look at the numbers.

2007 class:
1. Kevin Love (Superstar, though I know some would argue)
2. Eric Gordon (Great, but injury-proned)
3. O.J. Mayo (Good, coming into his own lately)
4. Kyle Singler (One of these is not like the others...)
5. Derrick Rose (Superstar, but injury-prone)

Pretty solid top 5, Singler is having a decent rookie year too. With the way Mayo has played lately, and if Gordon can finally stay healthy, you have four guys that have the talent to at least be all-stars. So your logic is sound in that regard. Maybe I'm a cynic, but then I look at 6-10 (Nolan Smith, Austin Freeman, Michael Beasley, Patrick Patterson, and Nick Calathes) and shake my head at Jeff Teague sitting there at 67. He's no super-star, but it shows these lists aren't infallible. In fairness though this is a pretty strong class, I'd bump Singler and one of Gordon/Mayo for Griffin (18) and Harden (21) though.

2008 was a pretty meh year it seems (though it's cool I share a graduation year with Kemba and JT :D )
1. Brandon Jennings
2. Samardo Samuels
3. Tyreke Evans
4. Jrue Holiday
5. "B.J." Mullens (lulz)

Yuck...let's hope this upcoming year is more like the 2007 class and not 2008 (hell they stopped at 99 players on this one). In hindsight taking a top 5 high school recruit probably wouldn't have been the best plan, but it's not like there was much else to brag about. Kemba (14), Greg Monroe (20), and Klay Thompson (53) all have claims to the top 5. Other than that...meh, and no superstars.

Too early to call any of the more recent guys superstars really, several with Potential (Wall, Cousins, Kyrie, Davis, etc.), but at this point the only "Superstars" to graduate since '07 are Love and Rose.

McLemore Gaining Momentum As GM's Top Pick

Ben McLemore has had a hugely impressive redshirt freshman season at Kansas.

McLemore has a True Shooting Percentage of .651 this season and a PER of 24.61.

McLemore is gaining momentum as the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

"I spoke with five different GMs this week who told me they'd take him No. 1," wrote Chad Ford. "McLemore has been the best college player I've watched this season. I love him. A great combination of athleticism, length, shooting ability, ball handling and defense. He has the chance to be a very special player at a position that's been very weak over the last five years."

McLemore is already better then Henderson probably. He is the better athlete, better shooter, and gets to the rim way easier.

I just do not see what else people want him to do. Does he have to average 30 points a game?

I think his potential is higher then Beals and I love Beal. McLemore fits our team perfectly from his skill set and superstar potential on the wing. Then I would just overpay for a free agent big, and take the best big available with Portland pick.

Any chance Michael Carter-Williams falls to the POR pick? Or would a team in MCW's range take Sessions + POR pick? His playmaking ability compliments Kemba's scoring and would keep us deep at a crucial position throughout the rebuilding process.

MCW would be Sessions 2.0 but taller. I actually thought about the same thing. He would be a decent pairing next to Kemba. I think MCW could fall to late lottery. It's an intriguing option.

Maybe a team like Minny might take Hendo + POR pick for their pick. It's not like we are re-signing Hendo and we will especially look to salvage something of value for Hendo if we draft Shabazz or McLemore and keep Gordon on the roster.

McLemore/Shabazz + MCW would be an exciting draft.

If we get both picks I'd like to go big then small or vice-versa if we can help it (yeah I know, BPA; just saying that if everything else is equal).

If we go Noel/Zeller/Len/Bennett early, then guys like MCW, Goodwin, and maybe McCollum would make sense there. Though I'd rather grab Bazz/McLemore early and then grab one of Plumlee/McAdoo/Mitchell/Polythress with the Portland pick.

Really we just need to track the pick for another in the top 10 :D

I wonder what OKC would want for their TOR pick which is currently 7th...

They hoping Len will fall to them or Zeller? I don't know how realistic that is or if they can add a player there that would make much of an impact. Maybe they will package Jeremy Lamb with that pick and trade up.

If our draft is McLemore + MCW it makes us a better team but definitely ignores our frontcourt needs. However, if we go the draft-rebuild route then 1 more year of losses due to lack of frontcourt depth will all but ensure another tanked season that would gift us Andrew Wiggins. Add him to SF and you can swing MKG for a big and look to free agency.

Kemba/MCW
McLemore
Wiggins

It's an incomplete puzzle but Charlotte will have vast resources, assets and cap space to build a front court that circumvents the draft.

1. Shabazz Muhammad

1a. Nerlens Noel

3. Ben McLemore

4. Alex Len

5. Anthony Bennett

6. Cody Zeller

I think that Noel or Muhammad have the best shot at being something truly special. McLemore and Len will be solid starters at there position and fill a need. Bennett I think will have an average career but nothing special as I have seen him have some troubles at times this season getting shots off against quality opponents. Zeller worries me but the talent is there.

Who would you rather be?

Charlotte with pick 2 and 14

or

Phoenix with pick 4 and 11

Does the 2 slot gap at the top mean as much as the 3 spaces separating the middle picks?

If we land the #1 pick and the suns offered picks 5 and 10, would you deal?

That would give us picks 5, 10 and 14.

Easily "Charlotte with pick 2 and 14". We need another star to pair with Kemba and MKG. The difference between the #2 and #4 pick could make all the difference between selecting a star player and a quality player. Quality players won't take us over the top.

I would argue that 1-5 are unclear. Shabazz is probably the only one who definitely won't be available at 4 or 5. The rest may be so depending on who Cho likes, I don't know.

Rephrased, this question might be asking, would you trade Shabazz Muhammad, Ben McLemore or Nerlens Noel for Anthony Bennett and pick 10?

The picks will become more clear come March Madness once we see how they handle pressure situations and then we'll have the athletic freaks make impressions at the NBA Combine to raise their draft stock. It's certainly unclear right now.
