I feel like Young's game would be a lot better in the NBA. Kind of like how Deandre Jordan and Andre Drummond have been. A lot of people were down on Drummond going into the draft, and now he's looking like a per-minute monster. Granted there's some differences, but I see no reason Young can't be effective in the league.

Young is 6'9, 250, and has a 7'1 wingspan. He's a very good athlete, quick, has great lateral quickness and good explosion too. He's not as tall as Drummond or DeAndre, but he definitely has the ability to positvely affect a game with his physical tools alone.

And he's probably smarter than the 2 of them put together...

i'd like to see what young's standing reach is. i know his wingspan is listed at 7'1, but how much of that his chest and shoulders? he's jacked, like body-builder jacked, but his arms don't look that long to me.

Doubt his standing reach is that impressive, but quite a few of his advanced stats measure up to Drummond's. He'll never be able to affect a game like Drummond can because he's not seven-foot, but I like his chances to be a pretty good roleplayer. Rebounding and ability to protect the rim has definitely improved this season.

I haven't seen enough college ball to have a real opinion but Young's rebounding rate is a red flag to me. He's supposed to have these great physical tools, but he's only averaging 9.7 rbs per 40. That's low. Makes me think he is one of those guys who is strong but has no rebounding art.
I think I like Dieng better for this team as a big with elite length. I also want the Bulls to draft Dieng to help Niel Funk out. That will give him better odds of getting the call right when Dieng and Deng are on the floor together.

Any thoughts on Kelly Olynyk fitting in with the Bulls?
I dismissed him at first because his block rate is not great for a big, but his scoring efficiency is really strong, and if you are committed to playing one of Taj and Noah at all times, you have at least one shotblocker back there.
And then I did a little reading.
http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2013/j ... ect-storm/
Turns out Kelly's like Jo: originally a guard that grew 10 inches in high school.
David Thorpe has talked about how he loves bigs that used to be small, because they usually have better court sense: they "think" the game from a small guy's perspective. Which makes me feel this guy could be a really great mental fit for our offense. Couple that with his size and touch on the block, and you have a player that can use some of the same space, in the same way that Boozer does.

kelly redshirted this past yr and put on about 20 lbs while sitting out. before that though, he was pretty nondescript as a player. typical skinny stretch 4/5. skilled, but not much of a rebounder or defender, unwilling to mix it up. he still isn't quite there as a rebounder or defender, and i think his potential is limited in those areas because of his athleticism and dimensions (doesn't look particularly long), but he's made a concerted effort to playing in the post and throwing his weight around down there.
i think he's getting close to being maxed out in terms of bulk on his frame and i'm unsure if he'll be able to throw his weight around the way he does at the college level, but he did retain his perimeter skill, so even if he wasn't able to move bodies, i think he'd still be able to survive as a finesse big. in particular, he's got great touch on his jumper and is a good passer so that's always a plus offensively.
he might have played his way past the bulls' slot already though. i currently have him in the early 20s, but he could easily move up while feasting on a weak conference. even if he isn't much of a rebounder/defender for a big, he's skilled, smart and plays with good energy. i'm sure he'd be able to pick up some things defensively.

I've read that we were scouting Marcus Smart from OSU. I've never seen him play. Can he be a future SG next to Rose?

they'd have to move up to get him.
he's a combo guard, more of a point since he's not a great scorer currently, but is a pretty good playmaker.
he's a tough guy to project since his best attributes are his intangibles, but i think he'd at least be able to defend at a high level. he's the ultimate winner, unselfish, with great leadership skills and has a penchant for making big plays in big moments, but his skillset leaves a lot to be desired. technically, his shot looks fine, but the results aren't there yet. he's been settling for some tough 3's this yr. he's not particularly quick. is strong but not particularly explosive around the rim. his handle is not that great either as he's very right hand dominant.
as far as the type of player and person that he is, he'd fit like a glove on the bulls, but in terms of skill and being able to fill a need at the 2, i'd look elsewhere.

Nik Stauskas could wonderfully fill the Bellinelli/Korver role for us long term.

This guy?
Nik Stauskas attempts to hit 45 out of 50 three pointers

He's a freshman at Michigan shooting 49.5% from 3pt, taking 5.5 per game, and has good size at 6'6". I couldn't agree more, except he might be stay another year to raise his stock.

Thnx for the info ManRam. Btw, do we have a chance at moving up and nabbing McLemore, Muhammad, or Goodrich?

McLemore and Bazz should go Top-5. It's hard to guage chances in January when you don't know which teams are picking where and what their thoughts are on this draft. Some GM's lately think McLemore has the talent to go #1 overall because he has the NBA size of an SG, along with the shooting stroke and athleticism.
Goodwin is probably more realistic, but even then his stock could rise. He'll be 19 around draft time, he's 6'5, 6'10 wingspan, athletic and very good at getting inside the paint and finishing.

Bulkier players give off that illusion that they aren't as long as the thinner players; many people don't realize Boozer has a 7'1-2 wingspan himself (if I recall correctly), which definitely assists him with rebounding more than people expect.
Why so serious?

A player that I've liked since last season is CJ McCollum. I know he broke his foot, but I don't know how will that affect his draft status. Looks like a smooth scorer who may fit nicely next to Rose. He's not that big, but he's not that small for SG either. Is he attainable? I have him as a top 5 SG in the 2013 draft class.

If we do obtain a SG in the 2013 draft. I trust our FO a lot in finding our future backcourt mate next to Rose. I have full confidence in them making the right acquisition and Thibs molding that player to the best of his abilities.

What do you think of Victor Oladipo from Indiana? To me, he's the best player on that team and at 6'5 w/ tenacious defense and above average slashing ability he could be a SG option for the Bulls. I'm not sure he'll come out this year, though.

Me personally I love the kid.
A 2-3 rotation of Jimmy Victor and Deng would terrorize teams on defense. He also seems like he has potential on offense in the long run.
