I say give him the rest of the season and fire him after the season ends if the nightmare continues. If he gets fired hire Brian Shaw to be the new head coach.

Accept lost season and give him another shot next season after some retooling.

I wasn't a Suns fan, am not a fan of small ball or SSL, and have zero confidence in Mike D'Antoni.
Convince him to quit and give someone else a shot next season. See if you can get Doc to come over after the Celts blow it up.

I can pitch in a couple hundred as soon as I get my return, if Fellow lakers fans unite to cover the rest of Dantonis contract! I'm serious! Only if the Lakers agreed to make a offer again for Phil to come back!
There's too many rich laker fans out there to not get this done.
Our players can't wait till next season, there's too much drama unfolding, and they only have a 2 year window!

Or the even richer owners could get it done. If they wanted to.

You fire him now. It kills two birds with one stone: 1) It gives us a chance, albeit small, to salvage the season. 2) It increases Dwight's likelihood to resign, which would require Dantoni to be fired anyway. Might as well do it sooner.

Re: POLL: What should the Lakers do with D'Antoni?
Any way we can demote D'Antoni to the D'League? This way he can learn to coach a club as well as understand that the "D" in D-League stands for... you know. Secondly, regarding the salary issue, LAL would still pay his salary accordinlgy and more importantly would still be able to say, hey, "you ARE our HC (!), just not for the LAkers."
It'd be a hard EXPENSIVE lesson for LAL to learn to NOT make anymore bone-headed decisions.
This can also work advantageously for us: The demotion may cause him to quit! Yay/Nay? Just saying.
But, for me this guy needs to go... So my vote is to FIRE HIM NOW!
...... Plus, it'd allow Bernie to take over for the remainder of the season.

Re: POLL: What should the Lakers do with D'Antoni?
OK..I was gonna start a new thread about the current poll on the realgm main page....
Everyone is saying D'Antoni is the reason this Laker team is sucking beyond anything ever imagine, this is absolutly the worst Lakers team in LA history......however, There was huge problems since the first pre-season game(you lost all pre-season/October games). Lakers are one loss away from being sweeped by the Jazz(first time ever in LA history). You fired your coach when things were going wrong, and you bring in a new coach, and now you blame him!!!! Doesn't this sound like its a player problem?
Do I think D'Antoni is the problem....Yes...in a certain way........When he was brought in, he should of slapped everybody and put this team together. Was it originally his fault...NO.....is it his responsibility now...YES!!!!
Do I think there is anyone better than D'Antoni(short of Phil or Sloan), I don't think so....Your just gonna bring in another Coach who can't handle a group of hardcore losing, "all-stars"....
I blame Nash or Kobe for not leading this team...every team needs a leader. Kobe should be the man!

What should they do? Fire D'Antoni and do everything possible to make amends with Phil and bring him back.
What they probably will do? Continue losing with D'Antoni, make big roster changes they think will be more suitable for D'Antoni's system, then still continue to lose because he's an awful coach.

Re: POLL: What should the Lakers do with D'Antoni?
What I mean is, if D'Antoni is the problem, will bringing in another coach change things for the better? I mean you guys can absolutely do no worst than you are now!!! So I guess there is some coach who would gladly take the job and turn this team around, which is what D'Antoni should have done, but he is to much like an old rival, than taking the role of leader/father/COACH!
Still, I think the team is losing because of tension in the players. I mean you can't blame D'Antoni for all the losses.

naturally.
RyanStorm wrote:Still, I think the team is losing because of tension in the players. I mean you can't blame D'Antoni for all the losses.
and why are the players feeling tension? could be because they're frustrated with their roles in this system? why is kobe saying that this isn't working? why is dwight walking around show reporters a stat sheet with only 5 shot attempts? we know the problems are a lot deeper than d'antoni but he's a huge cog in it all and deserves for his name to be brought up every time someone speaks on the dysfunction of the lakers.
as far as kobe and nash not being leaders, it's possible but you can't say they're not considering you have no knowledge of what goes down behind the scenes. but it looks to me that kobe is heavily involved in this, whether it be signing himself up to take blame, or talking about how he has to shoot at a higher percentage. but last i checked the leaders of an organization don't always have to be the players. doc rivers, tom thibodeau, greg popovich, mike woodson, all 4 are leaders of men. can you sit there with a straight face and say d'antoni is of the ilk of the 4 i just mentioned?

I dont want Dwight to resign, and I wouldnt necessarily mind trading Pau.
DAntonis system can work with the right personnel.

Re: POLL: What should the Lakers do with D'Antoni?
I just can't believe that Gasol, Kobe, Howard and Nash can't play together. That sounds like one of the most expensive starting line ups, that should be #1 in the division. If they can't play together, than I don't know who they could play with, but we didn't see the original coach work with this group. I say bring in the assisstant coach, or bring back the first coach.
If I were the Laker's organization, I wouldn't allow Kobe or Howard to go to the All-Star game. I think there are others who deserve it more. I can't remember the last time 2 starters on the All-Star team were on losing teams...especially "non-playoff' teams, not to mention the Celtics. The two biggest clubs in NBA but have two of the biggest upsets all year, Celtics are just lucky to be in a playoff spot.

Re: POLL: What should the Lakers do with D'Antoni?
I'd give him the rest of the season and then fire him unless we get drastically better. Firing him now is pretty pointless, you're still paying him and it would be unfair since whoever comes in is already set up for failure. You don't sign up to be the Lakers head coach and not even make the playoffs with 4 HoFs.

Re: POLL: What should the Lakers do with D'Antoni?
I'm done with Antoni. That fool single handedly **** our chances up at having 3 low post threats. Just because Antoni and Nash had some connection they thought hmmmm well Nash can do anything even at 39 years old. HOW IN THE **** DO YOU IGNORE 3 low post threats in Pau, Kobe, Dwight?
I know many of you think oh management has more knowledge than us, but I'm really starting to think the house cleaning the Jimmy did was a big mistake because he took all the knowledgable people out of the organization and kept the insanely dumb people there. Right now Mitch for me is back to Cupcake and Jim and Jerry (No comment otherwise I think i'll get banned)....

Re: POLL: What should the Lakers do with D'Antoni?
Here's my take on Mike D!
I think the guy can coach! With that said I'm not thrilled to have him as the Lakers' coach. I don't think anybody could turn this current Lakers team into a contender due to factors beyond the coaches' control. Things like players' age and injuries etc.
With that said we need a coach that commands respect. The NBA's premier organization needs a premier coach! Mike D is not a top tier coach that commands respect imho. I want a coach that can tell Kobe or Dwight to can it when they're getting out of line. Not too many guys exist that fit hat mold by we need to find one and hire him soon. Phil J? Jerry Sloan? Mike K? The list is pretty short.
We've had a lot to be disappointed about this year, Pau's softness, Nash's injury/apparent decline, Dwight taking longer than hoped to get back to his old self etc. We've had some bright spots too, Kobe's hot start, Artest's steady play and the emergence of Clark. With all that said I hope we don't **** up the Dwight situation. Many of you won't agree with me on this but if I'm Lakers mgt and a doctor is telling me he'll make a full recovery eventually I'd go to Dwight and tell him not to worry about this year. Our struggles are not his fault. They're not any one person's fault but we can definitely turn this around within two years time if he's willing to stick with us and just worry about getting healthy. At that point he'll be the premier player, assuming we don't luckbox LeBron, on the league's premier team. Without Dwight going forward we are in 100% rebuild mode and I don't see any young players coming along that will allow us to compete with the Durants and Jameses of the league. Healthy Dwight with a coach like PJ or Sloan or maybe a Mike K and we should be just find for the next 3-5 years. And yes I realize Dwight has many shortcomings. Shot blocking and rebounding ain't one of em...

Add me in. Never been a fan of dantoni/sll and Nash. I m one of those people who see Nash as a "system player".
