Hornets to announce Pelicans tomorrow with the new logo

As much as the fleur de lys is iconic in New Orleans, I seriously hope they don't plaster them all over the jerseys. Just ruins it for me no matter how good the color scheme and logo may be.

Wizards and Raptors aren't that bad, although Raptors sounds a bit on the cusp of trying too hard to be intimidating, while the Wiz suffer from having such an awesome name beforehand. Pelicans is really solid though IMO. the more unique the better. Flight? YUCK!

the only true generic high school level bad name: Bobcats

and the corny ones that don't end with an S: Magic, Thunder, Heat

Pelicans have meaning to New Orleans. The only of those that may have meaning to the city is the Magic, and naming your team after an amusement park in it doesn't seem like the best idea.

Wizards and Raptors are names just like their teams: below average, but not abysmal.

The Magic and Thunder sound like WNBA teams, like the Sparks or the Sky. I think the Heat is an awful name, but I am not a little biased.

Not a fan of the Pelicans, but I can understand why the name change is happening. It's definitely a different take on NBA team names, and has an applicable history.

Magic are named after being a tourism city in general, not specifically Disney World. A place that feels like "Magic".

In no way am I bashing other teams names, because they all work in their own way, but come on....

Magic, Heat, Lakers, Thunder, Suns, Wizards, Raptors, Pacers, Knickerbockers, 76ers, Spurs, Celtics, Nuggets, Clippers, etc etc...

How far do you really have to look? If a team came out today and named their team Rockets, everyone would point and laugh. Pelicans are a pretty awesome bird, and also the state bird. Great logo and great symbolism. I'm sorry they're not the Tigersharks, but it's a solid name none the less.

I understand it has a meaning, state bird. I understand why they're doing but I don't understand why they're using it.... its a brand, a franchise that you want fans to "enroll" or create. You need a name that can desribe the sport or offer as a team identity...

Pelicans? Hawks, fine, Eagles, cool, Ravens sure..... each having a notion to them. What's the Pelican's?

What about the Red Sox. Naming a team after socks would be considered horrendous if it was a new idea.

The logo(leaked) is nice by design, colors and structure. But Pelicans... I couldn't.... could've gone with Tigers(cliche perhaps) or something else about Nola.

Did I advocate for ferocious names? There's nothing intimidating about lakers or knicks, are Pelicans intimidating? If Pelicans catches the eye and attention to NO then it did its job.

So sounds like you don't like Lakers or Knicks as names, why can't i not like pelicans?
