Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
Do we have the worst backcourt in the NBA? Have we for two years now? Our front office is good, but when you have started Raja Bell in his last year, and Randy Foye at the 2 twice in a row, it doesn't look good.
Our record is a testament to our depth in the front court, but honestly, who has a worse backcourt than us?

Uhhhh.... really? Ricky Rubio is worse than Jamal Tinsley? Unless you just mean "right now" due to Rubio returning to form.

Re: Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
Im not a huge Foye fan bc I really dislike players that can only do one thing. He can shoot the 3 and thats it. In reality, our backcourt includes Gordon Hayward who comes off the bench but gets near starters minutes, thus it is a strength especially with the way Tinsely is playing. Over the long haul, you need Hayward starting at SG and a new PG. On paper maybe we look really bad in the backcourt, but in reality our back court has been ok middle of the pack and with Hayward shooting lights out recently much better than average.
Our biggest weekness is we have no star on the team ie Durant or Lebron, and thats why they will win the championship and we will not.

Easily.
However, Tinsley played well last night, and has filled in pretty well for Mo. Unfortunately, he should be playing 10-15 mins per game as a backup. Even more unfortunate, he can't play 48 mins, so we have to use Watson.

I dont get the Burks love at PG. Or even the Burks love for that matter........ Dude is CJ 2.0. Athletic wing that cant shoot.... at all. Mediocre defender at best. He will never amount to more than CJ in his career. And at PG, just horrible.
Back into my hole now. All the Burks lovers, go ahead, rip away.

Re: Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
burks and cj are like day and night. give burks a consistent 20 mins a night and he will shine. Burks and hayward are the two main guys on Utah right now that can get their shot anytime and acutally go to the free throw line. The only knock on burks is his Ft% but when he is in the Jazz have an instant scoring threat. When CJ was in the game we all know the worst shot was coming at the worst time, when burks comes in we know were going to the free throw line. When burks plays big minuets he produces when you give him 5 mins and one shot its hard to judge him.

Not a Burks LOVER, but i think u are undervalueing the athleticism and the ease with which he gets to the rim. What CJ Miles lacked, even more than his ability to shoot, is the ability to know when, or when NOT to shoot. Nobody, on our roster last year, save for maybe Burks, could get to rim as well as CJ. He just never did it. Most players can improve on this decision making process, but CJ never did. So I'm not saying that Burks won't be CJ 2.0, but you can't just pass up that kind of athleticism and talent.
If you'll recall, we've wanted a scoring 2 guard for a looooong time! I think its reasonable and wise to give Burks at least half the opportunity that CJ had.

Re: Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
I honestly like Hayward coming off the bench just because he is instant offense, he will be like Ginobli but more athletic. I think a future rotation like this would be killer:
Burks/Williams/TInsley
Foye/(Rookie)
Carroll/Hayward
Favors/Williams
Kanter/Mosgov(pick him up in the off season) or rookie
I like this because Favors and Kanter get the touches they need for the inside and we would have the deepest bench in the league. Hayward and Williams anchor the offensive punch for the bench

That's exactly what I mean...... Of course Rubio will be better than Foye or Tinsley next season...... But right now, is a different story......

Re: Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
The Burks/CJ comparison is very puzzling. Burks goes to the rim obsessively and draws fouls; CJ takes contested thirty-footers. That's to say nothing of their energy levels (Burks is hungry for minutes; CJ is hungry for whatever he's daydreaming about eating when the game's finally over).

Re: Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
Well I wouldn't compare Burks to the lifetime rookie but burks has some huge flaws right now ( Very inconsistent, not a good shooter, fouls entirely to much, poor free throw shooting sometime negate his ability to get to the line, scan often make stupid mistakes like most young guys, ect ....) and shouldn't be playing consistent major minutes on a playoff bound team (which whether you like it or not, Corbin was told to try to make the playoffs).
BTW Burks has no business ever playing major minutes at pg and I wish people will stop calling for guys like him along with harden roy, mayo, manu ect ... to be real pg's because they are not and no good team will ever play them at pg except in certain situations or mabey as a backup pg if they have no better option (ala boston using Lee as a backup pg). Those guys are different than rose and westbrook even tho they may seem like they can do what they do. Burks will find his place in the nba and will be good but he's not ready yet and he will never ever be a major minute pg.
Also Hayward just now starting to approach Mike milller status and still has a ways to go to reach his consistency (since he didn't have a many slow starting season as hayward does) and rebounding level so stop with the manu stuff because he will never be anywhere close to that (and manu is way way more athletic then hayward). Hayward should stay off the bench because thats where he excels.

Re: Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
Its hard to say, comparing the Jazz in JAN:
Tinsley + Foye = Awesomness
Tinsley has been shooting, and penetrating the paint. His razzle dazzle and dribbling is some of the best in the game. With his added shooting and driving, he has opened up his game to make him a real threat. Al is statistically doing better while Tinsley is on the floor, because he is a pass first PG, however, he has opened up his game and has improved tremendously.
Foye, has been fire hot at the 3pt and is one of the best off the pick shooters. However, when Jefferson went 0-7, Foye instead of shooting, penetrated, drawing the defender, allowing Big Al to get an easy bucket. He then continued to do dish Big AL's first couple buckets. He has improved to not being a 1-Dimensional player like Korver is. Foye has shown to be able to defend better, and has shown he can work as a team, even if he is just the shooter. He is becoming so much more.
Hayward + Watson = Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Hayward is the Dr., he is smart, can pass, and can do everything, include sinking game winning shots. Watson is Mr. Hyde, when he is let lose, it seems innocent at first, then things just get so sour quick, and when you wake up the next day, you realize the havoc he caused. He can't shoot, and is terrible when not in transition, even then he gives up TO's. He can't run plays, and I honestly think people don't trust him, like they do tinsley. How can you lead if they don't trust you.
Burks + Foye, or Burks + Hayward = Miracle Unit's
Burks when he was on the "Miracle" unit, which consisted of Big Al, Millsap, Hayward and Foye, at PG, he proved himself while on the Road. If a man can do this good on the road, then he could do a lot better if given the same minutes at home.
Burks I believe makes a better PG than Watson, for the bench. I have stated hundreds of times, that he should replace Watson, and Carroll should replace Marvin. Burks is just able to draw defenders and spread the court. Watson normally never leaves the 3pt line. Tinsley has improved for awhile now, Watson showed some Razzle versus Wizards, but besides for that one game, he has been the reason for losing, and losing big leads, like the tragic lose in the ATL.
This doesn't include the fact that Burks is throw in, in the middle of road games, to just do whatever, without having an identity, yet still puts up big plays and wins. If given for sure time, and has the title of PG for the bench, god knows what he could accomplish. I mean look at Haywards improvement from having an identity of Commissioner Gordon. I think Burks is in need of more minutes and an actual role for this team, besides "3nd" choice DNP". Which Watson has proved where he should be, including Marvin. Carroll is more deserving of Marvins place, and so is Hayward. I just think Carroll is better for first quarter play to start the game off tough.

Re: Worst Backcourt in the NBA?
Good points. Harden took a few years to put his game together though, and Burks has as much or more natural talent. I wouldn't play Burks at PG either, but have him play off the ball on the wing where he can slash either direction. I wouldn't trade him at this point, as he hasn't had a chance to prove his value.
