Link to the New Pelicans logo from the presser today:

http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ssf/2 ... ial_t.html

Some interesting tidbits from the article. Based on this, one has to assume Stern would grant the same fast-tracking latitude to Charlotte for a re-brand that was granted to NO with respect to waiving the two year requirement:

New Orleans Hornets owner Tom Benson officially announced Thursday afternoon that the Hornets’ name will switch to the New Orleans Pelicans. The NBA's Board of Governors already has approved the name change. And the Pelicans’ team colors will be blue, red and gold

“This isn’t something that was just done overnight,” Benson said. “This is a long process. We are not just changing the name to change the name. The Hornets name came from Charlotte. That fits in with Charlotte. It doesn’t fit into New Orleans, La., or our area here. The Hornets don’t mean anything here. We needed something that symbolizes New Orleans and Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. And nothing does that better than this name.”

While the name of the team will remain the Hornets for the remainder of this season, the new logo and name will begin popping up almost immediately. Some New Orleans Pelicans merchandise was expected to be available at the team’s store in the New Orleans Arena Thursday.

Officials said any marketing or advertisement for the 2013-2014 season will carry the new logo and name.

But to do that and to expedite the process, the Hornets had to get special permission from the NBA. Under league rules, the NBA requires a two-year period for a name change, but it cut waiting period in half. And for the first time in history, the league allowed one of its teams to begin making the transition in season.

And the Pelicans’ team colors will be blue, red and gold

Wait, their colours are going to be blue, red and gold?

Those are wayyyyyy cooler colours than orange and blue or purple and teal.

They are going to have WAYYYYYY more people going to their games than us.

Use the same logo's, uniforms, and put up a banner over Time Warner Arena that says "WELCOME TO THE HIVE".
Find HUGO and let him start every games introductions like he use to at center court, raising his hands as the Hive got LOUDER as the HUGO BLIMP buzzs around above dropping FREEBEES to fans below. AND we also want SUPER HUGO dunking and the HONEYBEES at every timeout. Sorry LADYCATS..YOU will look even sweater as Honeybees.

PLEASE PLEASE..REMEMBER when Charlotte lead the NBA in Attendance

MJ...It's simple..break the old TEAL stuff out of mothballs and lets make $$$$$$$$$$ filling the HIVE up.

JUST DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thousands of us old Charlotte Hornets fans are patiently waiting!

PS--Dell--Next fall we want to see you telecasting with the #30 and sweats. Forget the suits!

Just to be safe, the Bring Back The Buzz crowd should wear hair like Gminski and Rambis to be on the safe side.

Ha - nobody rocked the circa 1990 mullet like former Spurs center Dwayne Schintzius who backed up David Robinson. Rumor has it that Bob Bass, who was Spurs GM at the time before coming to Charlotte traded Schintzuis for refusing to cut his mullet (called the Florida Lobster) in compliance with team policy.

finally got the survey a few hours ago.

the gist of my responses were basically,
- i am a superfan
- team name, colors, logo etc... will have zero factor in my support of the team
- i will go to same number of games, spend same amount of money on merchandise regardless of name or colors
- i only think a name change and color change will have a short-term effect on attendance and merchandise
- i prefer cats to bobcats
- i prefer hornets to cats
- i prefer bobcats to anything other than cats or hornets
- if name changes to hornets, i would like old hornet colors rather than mix of bobcats and old hornets or current bobcats
- i like color changes introduced last year, but i still also like orange as well
- changing game time to 7:30 for weekday games would have biggest positive impact on me attending more games in person

Fats - fair responses Fats. I agree with almost everything you said.

Im conflicted on 7 vs 7:30

7 makes it harder to make tip-off but easier to have my son home and in the bed at a decent time.

There is really no use in sharing surveys or what not. The Hornets are coming back, but what real fans care about is the product on the floor and the next draft and free agency. Change the name to the Charlotte Light Houses for all I care. Winning brings fans.

This may be a dumb question, but how will this affect our "franchise stats" If we go back to the Charlotte Hornets. Will all the stats from the days of us being the charlotte hornets be in our history? What about when the team moved to New Orleans? What about our bobcats stats?

Same thing with Kings moving to Seattle. What if they go to Seattle supersonics. How will that affect their history since the Sonics moved to OKC and Durant was actually a Seattle supersonic once upon a time ago.

All I care about is Bobby Phills jersey.

I guess it depends on the new franchise owners. Clay Bennett (the OKC owner) has the rights to all the SuperSonics history and it's pretty much his move to make. I'd like to think that he's not that big of an **** and the new Seattle/Kings team can get a deal done with him.

As a European my biggest desire is to change game time to 5 PM, as it is only 11PM here, not 1AM :D

It depends on the owners if they want the history with the name back. It makes sense to let us have the history of the Charlotte Hornets but anything involving New Orleans should stay in New Orleans. So for us, there is a gap in history between 2002-2004 year.

My answers were very similar. I was not asked about game time though. I like 7:00 pm. I also like the current colors and want to keep them. This is a new era. I said the Bobcats name makes me think of losing. I prefer Cats to Bobcats. I would like the Hornets name change, but it would have no effect on my fandom.
