Re: Broussard: Kobe Staving Off Player Mutiny Against D'Anto
As a fantasy owner of Dwight this year, I think anyone saying he's getting enough touches isn't looking at the root of the problem here. First of all Dwight was looking at the stat sheet of one night, and guess what, it's clear as day:
2-5 from the field or 7-22 from the field....who isn't getting enough touches here? Dwight had the stat sheet and has repeatedly said we have to play inside-out, that's how you win.
I get it, so we are forced to respect Kobe to a certain extent, because he's been so good for so long, but we all get pissed when he has one of these 30ish% nights. And the last time we won? Dwight shot 14-18. If you were Dwight, wouldn't you feel like you were taking crazy pills?
Not even defending what is being alleged about Dwight's intentions here, but come on man, the guys got a point--and his point is about recent events, what's enabled them to win, and about the gameplan.
I'd love to know more about Mike Trudell's numbers seeing that: MDA hasn't been the coach the entire year, Dwight wasn't complaining until recently, and there are very few back to the basket centers in this game, especially with Bynum out....so it doesn't surprise me either way. If the numbers were: Dwight gets more touches per game than all but one player--then yeah, that'd be damning. But I don't think that's the case.
If we want to talk about turnovers that's another story. By the way look up Kobe (3.5), Nash (3.7), and Dwight's (3.1) TOs last year. I mean it's no mistake that we're constantly making turnovers, getting beat in transition....these guys give up the ball a lot. That's our core right there and not going to dramatically change at this point.
Look as of maybe two weeks ago, everyone wanted Pau to be traded or moved down to center to make room for more post play for both he and Dwight. We were bummed out about Jordan Hill being injured, but excited about Earl Clark. Well what's really changed? It's the same situation, with the same inherent problems: our coaching staff is trying to fit round pegs into square holes. Our management envisioned a team that does not connect with reality. This was never a good fit, so now we're watching the process of guys being uncomfortable with their roles.
Unless we trade some pieces, we're going to be witnessing some growing pains. To blame all of this on Dwight, or Kobe, or Nash, or MDA, or management, or anyone is absurd. It's called a **** up situation is what it is.

If Dwight is really about playing inside/outside. He'd concede the focal point of the post play to Pau and play on the weakside as a cleanup man and rebounder at this point (He's not healthy). At this time force feeding him the ball is resulting in turnovers are practically nothing. And that game your bringing up when he went 14-18fg. Most of those baskets came off of Nash and Kobe Bryant doing all the leg work. To be able to truly play an inside/outside game you need to have a dominate post presence that demands a help defender than the ball comes out. At this time teams are defending Dwight with 1 man and once he goes into that left hand hook the man guarding him or the guard on that side are just stripping the ball from him. So Dwight has played his part in this. I just hate how this locker room has become poisonous on so many levels. Just got play hard regardless the system that is in place.

They can only make it a story if they mention Kobe's name.
If Wojo ain't reporting it I don't believe it
Not saying I believe to, but Dantoni can be called an uncle to Kobe based on their Italy past. Yeah he wanted Phil, but he probably doesn't like to see Pringles do bad,

not getting enough touches eh dwight? idiot
I'm glad that you are one of the few sensible posters that isn't giving Dwight a free pass and just blaming D'Antoni. The guy keeps crying about touches and even had the audacity to run around a locker room with a stat sheet to show his lack of touches, but its blatantly obvious that D'Antoni is catering the offense specifically to get the ball to Dwight.
Don't get me wrong, I think D'Antoni is an absolutely terrible coach. His rotations sucked in Phoenix and he failed at developing our bench and younger players. He pretty much is the reason we didn't even get to a Finals with the SSOL era as Popovich made him his you know what.
However, this is now another coach that Dwight is griping about, even thought both coaches completely catered to him and his whining. Dwight, if he isn't already, is turning into one of the most cancerous players in the league.

Agree about D'Antoni - just a terrible fit in LA, and unwilling to deviate from his system.
It'll be interesting if D'Antoni leaves, because I expect Dwight will explore if SVG would consider a stint with LA. As you are aware, Dwight flourished getting the ball in the post and either dunking it or passing the ball out of the double-team (and although Orlando got 50 wins with regularity, it's a boring brand of basketball). It would be weird to see The Rumpled One re-uinte with Dwight, but I don't think Kobe would ever buy into that brand of basketball. The Lakers are still his team.
Thanks for considering my question - best of luck to you guys the rest of the way.

I seriously doubt Dwight wants a reunion with SVG. If he wanted him out in Orlando, why would he want him here in LA ?
@MagicGirl......did you forget that Kobe has played in a system way more complex than that ?
The Triangle should ring a bell, plus he played with a center that saw the ball a lot also.....Shaq, it wouldn't bother him.

Howard needs to step up his game, he needs to stop sulking/looking at people when something goes wrong and just play the game.
That goes for Gasol, Kobe, everyone.
They are thinking to much on the court, and just need to play hard even when something does go bad.
Time to back each other up and trust in each other.
To many chiefs and not enough indians.

Dwight Howard
in Wins: 7.4FGM - 12.0FGA 19.5 PPG 12.5 RPG 3.0BPG 3.1 TPG 2.9F 34.5mpg
in Losses: 4.8FGM - 9.0FGA 14.5PPG 11.6RPG 2.1BPG 3.1 TPG 4.1F 35.5mpg
Its a mix of both things really. Dwight should be more aggressive and shoot 16-17 shots per game.
Then on defense Dwight gets called for every foul whenever a guard penetrates the defense, taking him out of the game and then forcing Kobe to go to hero-mode.
So basically have your PG or SG attack the paint on the Lakers and its over.

Howard gets stripped a lot too. He is getting more touches than what the stat sheet shows.
Howard has gotten stripped so many times, I think he might lead the leauge in getting stripped.

He wouldnt get stripped as much if there was more movement on the court. Once the ball is fed to Howard the offense becomes stagnant, everybody is standing still Kobe, MWP, Nash, Pau everybody just watches. Dwight got stripped some in Orlando but in there offense they had plenty of off-ball screens whether it was for Anderson Nelson or even Hedo and even Rashard Lewis back in the day.
The thing is on the Lakers you have 5 guys that all love to play iso and aren't good moving off the ball so when the ball isn't in their hands they just stand there.

no he shouldnt. hes come to a team with far better offensive players than hes ever played with, and you think he should take nearly 4 more shots per game than he was at his peak in orlando? yeah that doesnt make any sense. you know what type of centers take 17+ shots a game? ones that are dominant scorers down low, and whose teams need them to be dominant scorers. the lakers dont need him to take 16-17 shots per game nor does he have the offensive game to warrant taking that many shots.

Bynum didn't have a problem of getting stripped without movement, as with Shaq.
Howard holds the ball to low, and pulls no suprises on the defense , they all know what his favorite moves are going to be.
This is on Howard, not on the offense. no excuses

i would want to see his offensive rebound numbers in that stat break down, cause i'd guess his spike in FGA's also has to do with more activity on the glass.

Re: Broussard: Kobe Staving Off Player Mutiny Against D'Anto
OT but does Dwight lose the ball more now because he is isnt at 100% strength. Did he use to hold it just as low, but the defenders weren't strong enough to knock the ball away???
That is the most obvious difference I notice w/ Dwight. These last 2 games have been great and Dwight was a monster vs. the Cavs in Jan. So I hope that the team has bought in.
I have always thought MikeD is the wrong coach for the Conference Finals and NBA Finals. He is a great reg season coach. Mike-Ds system shouldn't be exposed until May. What is going in now is not the coaches fault.

Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!
