How can the Lakers regain their championship ways?
Yesterday I posted a forum discussing some of the problems the Lakers have as a team. Today I am expresssing what changes should be made to salvage this season. Dwight Howard does not fit into this system; the Lakers should accomodate him and trade him to the Brooklyn Nets for Brooke Lopez and Kris Humphreys. Next the Lakers need to address the point guard situation for the future. Finally, the Lakers should remove and replace any dysfunctional players who do not or can not relate to the system D' Antioni has instituted. The Lakers are not playing at the level of the elite teams in the NBA. Changes have to be made and the blame for all of this should not be pointed at any one or group but the solution is to fix it and now. Prolonging the envitable will not change anything. Is there anyone in Laker land who has a better solution or remedy? Please contact me and explain what can be done. Thank you.

I'll address the topic as opposed to attacking the idea from the original poster. The word "chemistry" has to become the most overused term in franchise history. It's a word that everyone must repeat, both to the media and to themselves. They have to become obsessed with doing things to bring chemistry back to the team. It's clear now that talent and name recognition alone is not enough.

From my experience in the Orlando boards, chemistry as a word is not underrated. People still have no idea what it means.
Dwight rarely mentioned the word in Orlando when they were struggling.
Play hard IMO is the most overused term in the entire NBA for players.
Play through the system, the guards' most overused concept.
Play through the process, the coaches.
Know your personnel, the commentators.
The best way to improve without changing personnel is to change roles.
Give Dwight, Gasol's role. Both of them have atrocious 3pt shooting but at least Dwight has more range.
Let Kobe instead of Nash, set up Dwight. Regardless of the mistakes it will do, it will sharpen Dwight's instincts and Dwight is not a bad catcher, he's a bad passer so Kobe's bad passes are actually good for him.
UCLA Gasol as pg/play maker from Nash to reduce Nash's turnover then use Gasol to set up a PnR for Nash.
Limit the players' minutes. You don't have to bench Gasol to make Gasol play bench minutes.
Oh and reverse triangle. Use Kobe as a mid-post with Nash forming an off-ball wing threat into a running fadeaway on the corner or a bounce past to Gasol and let Dwight be on the weak side AT ALL TIMES. Never pass to Dwight thinking he's a C but a SF. Utilize him like a short range Odom if you have to.

No coach. No GM. Probably no star. I swear, in my 23 years of following this team, I can't name a stranger time than this moment to be a supporter of the Magic.

No, Dwight has no where near as much range as Gasol. You're not the first person I've seen say this, which confuses me. Are you talking defensively like how far from the rim they can go without being blown-by?

No. I'm saying Dwight always had good range with his jump hook if the D does not close on him but he rarely shows that confidence in Orlando games by the time he demanded the post from SVG but he's one of the few bigs who can shoot farther if he can pound the ball then spin before he hooks.

It's just a weird thing with him. He actually likes being farther from the basket than being close to it. He does not have prime or past his prime Gasol range but he has underrated range that gets stronger if he can pound the ball and spin. It's like it trains him to follow through on a hook or a shot.
This is why despite the reverse triangle being always a poor play on any team, it actually works towards all of the team's strengths as every player can move in a zone where Dwight is familiar with in Orlando but they can move towards their spot too.
It's like making an entire scheme based around replacing Brandon Bass' role (in Orlando) with that of Kobe Bryant.

It's a lot easier to get rid of the coach than it is to make moves that cater to a particular coach's style. Trading Dwight for Lopez and Hump? Are you serious bro? It's too late to salvage this season anyway. Guys like Hump grow on trees and Dwight >>>>>>>>>> Lopez!
I do think we need a PG but we've been saying this for years. We get Nash and are underwhelmed by his play. Forget an offensive minded PG. Pau and Kobe can playmake. Give us a defensive stopper a la Ron Harper or the like! Harper is just an example I'm not saying a guy like that would solve all our problems but it would be a good start.
Oh and for Sunday's game I'd use Morris to hound the F out of Westy all up and down the court. Pick him up he second he catches the ball and press press press! Even if he can only do it for three minute stretches it gives us a shot and throwing him off his game just enough to give us a chance.
Sometimes being wrong is awesome!!!

Re: How can the Lakers regain their championship ways?
JA no one "attacked" the idea, fact is we never gave it any thought. It's clear what his agenda was the minute he posted this to the board. Even just glossing over it you can tell what he and his post was about. He was a Nets fan, they're still day dreaming on landing Dwight. When the reality of the matter is they're not in the picture to just sign him, a trade is the only way and when it comes to that with us all they're getting is a dropped ring tone.JustAwesome wrote:I'll address the topic as opposed to attacking the idea from the original poster. I didn't get the same sense. His username doesn't give away his team affiliation. There's a chance that he might have simply mentioned the Nets because they're one of the teams that are interested in acquiring Howard. Doesn't make as much sense for him to list a team like the Cavaliers, since they haven't expressed interest (publicly) in such a transaction.
