Josh wants the max

His reasoning: because he's Josh Smith. He doesn't deserve the max and it's time to trade him once and for all

Josh Smith wrote: “I feel like I’m a max player, I feel I bring a lot to the table. I have a lot of versatility. For what I do and what I give this ball club, I feel like I’m worth it.”

Saw the article last night on ajc.com.

Scary.

Honestly, as good as Josh can be, I view giving him a max contract as a franchise crippling move, especially at his age. By 30, his athleticism will have lessened greatly. As will his effectiveness.

Line drawn in the sand, indeed.

Could be just the opening of negotiations. Start high and settle for moderate. Beats starting at moderate and settling for ...

That's what I'm thinking as well. I think he is looking for a desperate team to bite.

He is worth around 5 years 80 million plus in todays NBA. or around 16.5 per season. He is basically saying he wants 18.8 a season. Its negotiable.

But I hope you all realize that by saying he wants a max deal, he all but just nixed EVERY trade that could have sent him anywhere not willing to sign him to a max deal, right?

This is very much a strategic move by smith and his agent. You basically can't trade him now.

And just to put it in perspective, in the NBA amoung PF Josh is

1st in scoring
3rd in rebounds
1st in assist
1st in blocks
2nd in steals

The guy is top 3 in every statistical category (except shooting percentage where he is 4th in qualified leaders at the position and free throw percentage (of course)).

'Your ranking is a bit off.

LMA
Lee
Blake
Bosh
Anderson
They all score more PPG..and that isn't including Duncan (who could be a center) or Love (injured).

Similar for rebounds.
Zach
Lee
Boozer
Faried
Reggie Evans
They all grab more boards.(Still not including Duncan or Love)

He is #1 in assists and #2 in steals.
Ibaka is #1 in blocks.

Agreed. He should have been traded last season when he was playing out of his mind in March. That was the highest his stock has EVER been. Just look at what Frank Wren does on a regular basis. (Trading for Bourn, Uggla, Justin Upton.)

This post is so completely false across the board I don't even know how to respond. Esh, more delusional than Smith for wanting the max.

Indeed. Horford also pretty much matches Josh in all those categories, except blocks. And he's locked in on a much more palatable contract for the next few years.

Are you really willing to pay Josh $6 million more than AL for:

9/10 of a point scoing (.9)
7/10 of an assist (.7)
4/10 of a steal (.4) &
1.2 blocks more than AL?

You also didn't mention that Josh is shooting career lows from 3pt land and the free throw line and has one of the worst FG% of his career....in a contract year.

I just pulled the pf rankings. Clearly they have something off.

EDIT: I see, they have a lot of guys as Forward/Center's as if that is a position. That's what threw off my numbers. His rankings remain the same in assist, blocks and steals,

Among PFs, Smith is presently 5th in scoring (if you don't count LBJ, Carmello Anthony and Tim Duncan as PFs. If you do, he's 8th).
He is 10th in rebounding (if you don't count Tim Duncan and Al Horford).
1st in assists, if you don't count LBJ.
In blocks, he's behind Serge Ibaka and Tim Duncan.
In steals, he's behind LBJ, Blake Griffin and Paul Milsap.

As per Hoopsworld, http://stats.hoopsworld.com/basketball/ ... gular.html

Oh, and in shooting percentage among PFs, Josh Smith is 17th if you don't count Duncan, LBJ and Horford.
And he's 1st in turnovers with 3.0/game.

He also ranks 1st in taking that little shot just inside the 3pt arc - by a wiiiiiiide margin - and in uncontested shots from outside 10 ft from the basket (It almost looks like they WANT him to take those shots, go figure).

First in assists.
First in turnovers.
17th in FG%.

That sounds about right....

Right now Ferry needs to be feverishly working on the telephone lines trying to find a potential trade partner for Smith. He needs to convince a win now team that's just under the hump to take on Smith in hopes of winning it all this year, idk who that would be exactly but that's for Ferry to figure out.

Lakers
Celtics
Grizzlies

Word is Pau, Pierce and Gay are each available.

Any of these guys would improve our team and fit a need.
All of them on are on short-term contracts.
