National articles on Drummond
Came across two seperate national articles about Drummond today. His profile is increasing:
ESPN TrueHoop:
The Andre Drummond experience
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... experience
Grantland
The Surprising Offensive Success of Andre Drummond and the Pistons' Bench
http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-trian ... tons-bench
(I don't agree entirely with the Grantland one's analysis of Drummond/Monroe playing together but it's still a nice article)

David Thorpe: Andre Drummond ‘should have gone second in this draft’
David Thorpe of ESPN assigned superlatives to the rookie class, and Andre Drummond cleaned up:
Best shot-blocker(s): Davis and Drummond
To share this award with Davis says a lot about Drummond, considering what a special shot-blocker Davis is and will be for a decade-plus. Davis is more calculating, in part because he needs to play big minutes for his team, so risking fouls is something he has to be mindful of.
Drummond blocks more shots per minute, but he is less concerned about fouls, so he goes after more shots. Having Greg Monroe next to him helps him. It is fair to think that one day these two rooks will both be in the top four in this category in the entire league.
Best rebounder: Andre Drummond, Pistons
Some rebounders are tall and long, so they can get their hands on a lot of balls. Others have great hands, so the ball sticks when they touch it. Undersized players need a motor, along with good hands, to get to the ball and rebound. Then we have Drummond, who has combined all three components to become dominant on the glass. He has also added some craft to his art, deftly tipping the ball away from opponents to spots he can get to first. Drummond has the potential to one day lead this league in rebounding.
Biggest surprise: Drummond
Questions about his desire to play hovered around Drummond last June, as did concerns about his offensive game and feel. But it’s clear that Drummond should have gone second in this draft, which easily makes him the biggest surprise. Players like Drummond — glass-eating, shot-blocking, paint-finishing, lob-catching, quick-in-transition beasts — are exceedingly rare. He looks to be a franchise big man with very strong All-Star potential.
In a re-done draft, Anthony Davis, Drummond and Damian Lillard are definitely the first three picks. The order would probably vary based on the selector, but I’d take Davis, Drummond, Lillard in that order – and Drummond is closer to Davis than Lillard.

I still have about 50 days before I can post in the General NBA thread - cannot wait to help you guys support the Drummond-love discussion going on there.
This guy is just remarkable. The only reason a GM would/could pick Davis first in a redraft, is that Anthony has fabulous tools and skills, and is much further along on offense. However, Drummond is the better prospect. He's such a great kid: that article in Pistons.com where Frank and Kandor are discussing Drummond's incredible coachability, character, and unique ability to take instruction - added to his unreal athletic ability, makes him a ridiculously outstanding prospect.
IMO, if GM's would speak and tell the truth, if they got to do a redraft, Drummond would go no lower than 2nd. Probably Davis would still go #1 because of his advanced offensive skills, but secretly those GM's would all be wishing they had the 2nd pick in the draft, because the player they would most covet would be Drummond.
Andre is the best center prospect to come into this league since Dwight Howard. Cousins would have been in this conversation, but he's the worst teammate on the planet - a ticking timebomb, so that massively degrades his value. Howard never maximized his potential, and I think Drummond absolutely has what it takes to go where Howard never got to - elite all-time center status (Kareem, Akeem, Wilt, Russell, Shaq level). There's an incredibly long way to go even to get to Howard level, but the signs are there that support an argument that Drummond is the guy that can achieve superstar status. IMO, he's already an all-star level center, and he really is just learning how to play.

Its still hard to believe we got him with the 9th pick because I would have taken him with the second pick if we had it and I wanted Joe to trade up to get him.

^Word. To think we got Knight/Moose/Drummond with the 7th, 8th, and 9th picks respectively is pretty funny. They are all top 5 prospects in their respective drafts in hindsight. Now we just need the 10th pick and one more steal, that would be so fitting..

If 2012 was re-drafted I think Drummond goes 4th. MKG and Lillard would still go in front of him I think.

I was also someone who would have taken him second and it'll be interesting now that teams start paying attention to him.

i think it's time the Pistons got lucky with the ping pong balls and got a top 4 pick, just one more good draft pick will have this team contending

It seems like the rich always get richer in the NBA. Maybe with all the buzz Drummond has gotten, Stern will want to give him a top guard to play with, and give us a top pick this year

Re: National articles on Drummond
Still nice to see Drummond get talked up.
He had his first bad game in awhile last night though. Didn't do a whole lot in the 16 minutes he was in there.

I actually like Grantland. I think it has some nice change of pace articles. Simmons is a huge Celtic homer though. Grantland > ESPN IMO.

Re: National articles on Drummond
Drummond would go anywhere between 2 and 4 if all teams could re-draft...however I don't believe he'd go any lower than #2 if the Pistons had that spot. For their needs, Drummond was the best fit along with having the upside to be as good as anyone in the draft.
Drummond could be the reverse of Darko...getting a possible game changer at #9. That rarely happens anymore now that kids can't go from high school straight to the NBA.
I have to admit, I was completely against drafting him. Glad I was wrong.

I really don't get what it is about Davis that ppl see that automatically puts him above Drummond in their mock re-drafts.
I just don't see it.

More proven (NCAA) and a lot more polished on the offensive side. He's more of a PF , while Drummond looks to be a true center
