Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
Every year there is an athletic forward who is kind of a tweener that goes very high in the draft that struggles in the NBA and they are always touted as the most "NBA ready" thats exactly what i see from bennett, im not saying he wont be good but what im saying is i dont think hes a top 5 pick

Anthony Bennett is actually skilled unlike the others. Also is not really a tweener

Re: Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
T.Robinson was supposedly pro-ready coming out of Kansas. He can't really improve his body and he is a good but not great athlete. He is definitely a PF, just might be giving up an inch or two. DW gets the tweener label because he likes to stay out on the perimeter. He needs a coach willing to put him out there and work with him but he has flashed the potential that made him a top-5 pick. I don't think AB will be a top-5 pick in this draft anyway. After Noel, McLemore, Shabazz there are a couple bigs who'll likely rise.

Re: Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
Yeah Thomas Robinson isn't a tweener, he's a mediocre true PF. The guy who's Robinson in this draft is Mason Plumlee.
I still think Derrick Williams might end up good. His career depends on his 3pt shooting basically. He's improved this year to 35% and 1.3/3.8, but he can get better. If he becomes a lockdown 3pt shooter, he's a pretty nice player IMO, stretch 4 who hits 3s and can get to the rim

Re: Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
it's possible.
he's more skilled than t-rob. his game is more similar to williams. how he fares is up to him. if he's convinced he wants to be a 3, then i look for him to go the same route as williams.

Re: Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
Derrick Williams was coached perfectly at Arizona. A lot of his flaws were covered up but I still think he'll be a good pro. Before the draft I said he won't break out until he adds strength and improves his rebounding. I still think he'll be a poor-man's David West.
Bennett is a horse that will have lots of success in the NBA. His mentality is different than D-Will's. He attacks, attacks, attacks.

Bennett is a bit of a tweener but he is so good at his skills it's not that big of a deal. He is much closer as a PF then SF though. He will be fine as a PF offensively but defence is his issue because of his size even though he does have length.

T Rob doesn't belong in this conversation. He was so hyped up because he was pro ready. Williams and Bennett are both skilled players, and D Will still has a shot to breakout.

Re: Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
One stat stood out to me about Thomas Robinson that was a huge red flag - his 2 point FG% was only 50%. That's really bad for a college big who took most of his shots right around the rim. I think Williams is a much better comp to
Robinson. They both made about 60% of their college 2's and both showed 3 point range. Williams played out of position at SF most of his time in Minny. Now that he's playing the 4, his play has improved quite a bit. If he continues playing the 4, I think he's a good player.

It took robinson 3 seasons to get to where he was. Bennett is basically better as a freshman.

Robinson shot about half his shots from mid-range in college. Actually his shooting from mid-range was what brought his shooting % down to around 50%.

Re: Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
Robinson needs to work on his game, but he'll figure it out, he has heart and a strong body, he can have a David West career.
Williams needs a PG and freedom as a combo-forward, he wouldnt get that in Sota, I hope they trade him the Draft night or in the summer, he could fit right in Charlotte, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Milwaukee, Orlando, San Antonio, or Washington.
Bennett is the most talented, he has a nack for the basket.

if by 50% you mean <15% then, yes, you'd be correct.
he shot 71 jumpers total his last year.

That's where the comparison to Williams falls apart. Williams didn't just show 3 point range, he was one of the best 3 point shooters in college basketball his Sophomore year.

He shot a great percentage - but on low volume. He made all of 1.1 3's a game as a soph - after making all of 0.1 as a frosh. If anyone really believed that made him a top 3 point shooting prospect, I've got some quality beachfront property in Louisiana for sale.

Which is still better than Thomas Robinson's 0.2 3's made per game as a Junior.

Re: Derrick Williams=Thomas Robinson=Anthony Bennett?
I'm convinced that if Williams can't break out, then nobody similar to him and being a tweener in general ever will.
Seriously, his shooting wasn't just good for a PF but was good for the entire NCAA that year. He had the total package and showed up in the biggest games.
I think he still has a chance of breaking out but it's hard to draft Bennet high after two guys who dominated the college game in Beasley and D-Will pretty much fell off in the pros.
And Thomas Robinson isn't even in the discussion. He has very few NBA skills other than rebounding.
