Bears free agency thread-2013
Chicago Bears Free Agents:
Henry Melton, DT, Bears. Age: 26. Henry Melton is one of the top interior pass-rushers in all of football. He could stand to be better against the run, but he deserves a big contract after getting to the quarterback moreeffectivelythanJulius Peppers.
Israel Idonije, DE, Bears. Age: 32. Israel Idonije is coming off a fantastic season in terms of getting to the quarterback (7.5 sacks) and stopping the run. He'll be 33 in November, however.
Brian Urlacher, ILB, Bears. Age: 35. Based on the way he played last year, Brian Urlacher probablydeserves 1.5stars. He was terrible. However, he was hurt throughout, so maybe he can recover and be at leastan OK starter again.
Nick Roach, OLB, Bears. Age: 28. Nick Roach hasn't been a liability as a starting linebacker, but Chicago can do better.
Nate Collins (RFA), DT, Bears. Age: 25. D.J. Moore, CB, Bears. Age: 26. Kelvin Hayden, CB, Bears. Age: 30. Jason Campbell,QB,Bears.Age:31. Lance Louis, G,Bears. Age: 28. Johnny Knox, WR, Bears. Age: 26. Geno Hayes, OLB, Bears. Age: 26. Chris Spencer,C, Bears. Age: 31. Jonathan Scott, OT, Bears. Age: 30. Amobi Okoye, DT, Bears. Age: 26. Zackary Bowman, CB, Bears. Age: 28. Kahlil Bell, RB, Bears. Age: 26. Josh McCown, QB, Bears. Age: 34. Chilo Rachal, G, Bears. Age: 27. Olindo Mare, K, Bears. Age: 40. Troy Nolan (RFA), S, Bears. Age: 26.
Nfl free agency begins March 12th, 2013.

Re: Bears free agency thread-2013
In my opinion the Bears should resign-
Urlacher
Melton.
Prob Johnny Knox cuz looking for another wr is tiring.
Most of these other guys I'm kinda indifferent.
Nick Roach would be ok if not a better option out there.
Some guys for sure I know we dont need are-
Mare-k
Luke McCown-qb
Lance Louis-OL
Chilo Richal-OL
Most of us agree the Bears main Free agent Targets should be OL and TE. TEs I think M.Bennet and J.Cook are the top options.

Hell no. He tore his acl late in the season. He wonr be ready to go until like week 8 next season.
Spencer could be a valuable resigning. His ability to play 3 positions on the OL could really help depth.
Add Kahlil Bell-rb as a guy we don't have to resign considering we have Forte, Bush, and Armando Allen under contract.

We definitely need Lance Louis. Best OL for our team prior to his injury.

Honestly I've never been that high Louis. Sayin he was our best lineman isn't really saying much considering how bad the line was.
Besides that, there really isn't a point to sign a guy who will be on the PUP list. Basically id rather allocate that monet to guys who will see the field.
There could be some value in signing him to a really cheap contract and activating him latet in the year. But then you gotta cut someone mid season. And then what, kust thrust him in the lineup? Idk.

Re: Bears free agency thread-2013
Lance Louis is a quality guard in the NFL. The fact that he played on a terrible team masks that, so he can be a good value-signing. Then he is also coming off an injury which means he will be an absolute steal.
He's not just our best OL, he is a very good, definitely above average guard in the NFL.
Why would you want to lose the only valuable offensive lineman you have??????

Re: Bears free agency thread-2013
I also would not bring back Spencer. Sure he has the ability to fill all three interior line spots, but he doesn't play any of them well at all.
I would bring back:
Melton
Even if it takes the franchise tag. (I expect Dallas to go after him hard)
Urlacher
If he wants to play and doesn't ask for too much money ala Olin Kreutz.
Knox
Because I think he would be a great compliment to Marshall, Jeffrey and Bennett as our speed receiver.
Idonije
Unless Emery can get a steal in FA.
Nate Collins, to fill the DT rotation (I see potential).
Bowman, played excellent special teams this year.
Scott if he wants to re-sign for cheap.
Okoye, for the right price.
Campbell, for the right price.

First order of business should be releasing Kellen Davis from his contract eh, Biggie?

I'm not yet revealing my plans for the Bears board SuperBowl game

BTW, I noticed that you didn't enter into the game. It's not too late. The link is below:

Re: Bears free agency thread-2013
"We were talking during the season," Melton told "The Waddle and Silvy Show" on ESPN Chicago 1000 Friday afternoon, via ESPNChicago.com. "I expressed my interest in coming back and staying here. We didn't get anything done. All the coaching changes and all that have delayed it. Hopefully we can get back on schedule of getting something done. ... We were getting somewhere, but we couldn't really come to a deal. Hopefully we can get back on track, because I do want to stay in Chicago."
If Melton doesn't come back, it'll probably be the single most disappointing move this offseason.

Re: Bears free agency thread-2013
We could reunite Cutler with another teammate if we get Ryan Clady. But really, Sebastian Vollmer, Jermon Bushrod, Sam Baker, Phil Loadholt, Andre Smith, Jake Long, or Branden Albert would all work.

I remember reading in one of these threads that his hometown is Dallas. Add that to the team switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3 with the Tampa 2 brothers (Kiffin & Mareneli) running the show, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Jerry Jones offers him a Mario Williams-type of contract.

We can't let him leave though. He's the one young stud on our O-Line. We're going to need him. (I don't McClellin being that good as a DE)

Re: Bears free agency thread-2013
Hey man, I'm with you. I want to keep him, but I also see the potential of him leaving.
Will Emery be open to paying that type of big money to two members of the D-line (Peppers & Melton)?....Or will our new DC put in place a new defensive scheme that no longer requires a dominant Tampa 2-style DT?
Although, I want Urlacher to re-sign & retire as a Bear, I would be less heartbroken if he didn't return as I would be heartbroken if Melton leaves.
