Would the Marlins trade be considered t.o sports retribution for Bosh?

They still got a better return (Marlins) that is because they received a few up and comers in the deal whereas with Bosh we received a TPE and a draft pick? I think...and nothing more. But it definitely makes up for it a little.

I think it does!

I have been in south beach the past few days.... Sported a raps jersey a couple of times, spied some different guys wearing Reyes or Marlins apparel,,

I said thanks (from toronto) to every single one... It felt really good. So it got me thinking its kind of like getting revenge for Bosh leaving...heh heh

For people opposed to having Lind hit 5th, would this be a feasible alternative if Lawrie really gets going this year?

SS- Reyes
LF- Cabrera
3B- Lawrie
RF- Bautista
1B- Encarnacion
DH- Lind
CF- Rasmus
2B- Izturis/Bonifacio
C- Arencibia

I feel like this is the best lineup we can throw out there in terms of balance. Reyes/Cabrera/Lawrie are all contact hitters, followed by 2 power guys. This boosts Lind somewhat since he will have so many good hitters in front of him.

Even though Gibbons already said the opening day, I wouldn't be surprised to see this kind of a shift at the midseason point

Indeed, hence just saying thanks to them....

Right now it's nothing but us getting the "better" end of the trade...at this point.

I don't think so. Bautista is a fixture to hit third so long that he is healthy. If Lawrie really gets on a tear then I could see him hitting 5th, and that's about it. Then again, having him hit 5th isn't necessarily a bad spot either, and I'm pretty sure lots of us are hoping he ends up being a 3-4-5 type bat anyways. Having him hit 5 behind Jose and a productive EE is definitely a great positive!

http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/insider ... st?id=1235

So far this offseason, most of the news that's come out regarding Brian Wilson, who is recovering from a second Tommy John surgery, hasn't exactly been promising. Things didn't get any better after Brian Sabean, general manager of Wilson's former club, the San Francisco Giants, added his thoughts to the mix.

Sabean said it's unlikely that Wilson, a three-time All-Star and key member of the Giants 2010 World Series-winning team, will be back, according to Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News.

The GM openly questioned whether Wilson will be ready to pitch at the start of the season, a sentiment that echoes what was reported by ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin after Wilson threw for New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson last week. Rubin quoted a source claiming that Wilson was "not yet able to demonstrate in workouts that he is back to pre-surgery form." ESPN Insider Jim Bowden, though, tweeted over the weekend that the Mets may very well revisit the idea of Wilson. Alderson revealed he may be willing to take a second look at Wilson this week.

The 30-year-old, who recently narrowed the number of teams he's interested in signing with to a handful, is likely to land an incentive-heavy deal for one season. Even if he isn't ready to go by Opening Day, Wilson might be a worthwhile gamble for a club in need of a late-inning reliever who could eventually, once fully healthy, step into a ninth-inning role, like the Toronto Blue Jays or Detroit Tigers.

Kelly Johnson to the Rays on a 1 year deal.

Escobar/Johnson reunited so soon.

That pick they gifted back to us (from the Shawn Marion trade) turned out to become Jonas Valanciunas. They could have just signed bosh outright. It was probably pity, but thank goodness.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Miami trade the picks (for Bosh+LeBron) to:

a) Sign-and-trade gave players an extra year
b) Draft picks had guaranteed cap holds which would limit financial flexibility

That pick was lottery protected, so the Raptors would have kept the 5th pick anyways

The Raps were never getting past the first round of the playoffs with Bosh as their franchise player so I don't know why anyone was upset about him going to the Heat.

Because the Raps can't even smell the playoffs without him? Because the Raps lost their best player for next to nothing?

Bosh wasn't a top 10 player but still, it's generally not a good idea to let lose your assets for nothing when trying to build a better team.
