I can't imagine how we could have won a Super Bowl 2 years ago with super powers such as this in the league. They went...*gasp* 11-4-1!!!!

Using rilaman logic, we actually did not win in 2010 because that outcome was basically impossible heading into the playoffs that year.

IIRC, he wanted to fire MM during that season. He pined for Rex Ryan as our coach.

A lot of people wanted to fire McCarthy that year. The offense was horribly underachieving. It can't be understated how much MM has improved as a coach recently. He no doubt still has his flaws, but he's become a very good coach.

And I'll say this for Rex Ryan. He gets more out of less on defense than any coach in the NFL, and if we had him we wouldn't have Capers.

I actually like Rex Ryan as a coach but that means nothing in our scheme of things.

As for the playoff thing, it's pretty simple numbers. The top teams normally win at about a 13-3 clip. I'd say against the 5-6 seeds the top team should win ~70% of the time? Against the 2-4 seeds maybe 55-60% of the time? (At home).

I mean, parlay that. Most years the people's favorite has like a 20-30% chance to win it all.

Since the Broncos, we've only had a few teams do it multiple times.

It took the Patriots late FGs as they won all 3 SBs by 3 points barely kicking them in. Mind you, it took the tuck rule among another things just to get there. Now they've been the big playoff/SB losers.

The Steelers won it as a fairly boring 6 seed, won another on a final drive, and were eliminated in some really good seasons.

The Giants barely made the playoffs both times, went to OT in the NFC Championsip both times (with epic chokes from Kyle Williams and Favre), and won their Super Bowls with a miracle Tyree catch and Welker dropping a huge pass.

Hell, this year if Roddy White draws a flag or the Broncos don't **** their pants on a bomb to Jones late in regulation, neither are here.

There is definitely skill/clutch involved but it's ridiculously tough to win. It's a game of inches and there are normally 10 teams that can win it.

I have no idea how you can feel hopeless.

Don't forget about Manningham's ridiculous catch either. Gets them from just outside their 10 yard line to near midfield and he barely got his feet in before the safety got to him. It's not a miracle catch the way Tyree's was but it was still an incredibly difficult catch that got them out of awful field position to the point where they only needed 20 more yards to get into reasonable FG range to take the lead.

Is it just me or does Welker seem to drop a lot of passes in big games?

Lately, yeah. I didn't see the back half of the Ravens game but the first one I think people were stretching to say that it fit in his list of drops. Ball seemed almost uncatchable, though he may have had some later on that I missed.

My logic has nothing to do with regular season records,it has to do with the 49ers owning us in week 1 then embarrassing us in the playoffs after getting owned in the playoffs last season by the Giants.

All I'm saying is the Packers have some work to do if they want to be on the level of a team like the 49ers and if you don't bank on a bunch of variables to fall in our favor it's going to take 2 offseasons to accomplish that IMO

Not I wouldn't expect a homer who ''booked'' a 13 point Packer win vs the 49ers in the playoffs two weeks ago to understand that or agree obviously.

And I would still take Rex Ryan at head coach over MM,the guy is a great defensive mind and lead the Jets to two AFC Championship games with Mark freaking Sanchez as his starting QB.

I don't get how wanting Rex Ryan over MM would be some sort of crazy thought.Well maybe to a Packer homer it would be I guess.

The Jets are trending downward badly under Ryan. I was surprised he wasn't fired.

The Patriots situation is pretty crazy if you think about their run of success since Brady took over at QB.

They easily could have won 5 or 6 titles if just a few close play events were changed, but they also could have only won one ring without the tuck rule theft vs Oakland and/or Vinitari wasn't so clutch. We are talking about a few plays away from them being considered either the greatest football dynasty ever or on the Bills level of chokers if say the Patriots only had one ring, even though they've won so many games over the last decade plus.

Last year was a prime example. If Lee Evans doesn't drop the pass in the end zone, the Ravens go to the Super Bowl instead of New England. The Pats do go though and in the game, if Welker catches that pass late in the 4th quarter, they get another ring. One drop in the AFC Championship game bails them out, but then a drop sinks them in the Super Bowl.
