ESPN "Insider's" suggested Celtics/Jazz trade.......

Post#1 » by red4hf » Tue Jan 29, 2013 12:30 am

Just thought I'd share this for a laugh......

Celtics receive: Derrick Favors, Marvin Williams, Jamaal Tinsley and Raja Bell

Jazz receive: Paul Pierce, Avery Bradley, Chris Wilcox and Boston's 2013 first-rounder

Trade Machine: View this deal

Utah possesses a boatload of bigs and the Celtics could use one. Believe it or not, Garnett won't be around forever and this deal would give the Celtics their next big man to solidify their long-term foundation next to Rondo. It would also give the Celtics a pass-first (pass-only?) point guard in Jamaal Tinsley, which is kind of a big deal considering the C's don't have a pure point guard on the roster without Rondo.

Favors remains one of the most promising young bigs in the game, averaging 15-and-10 every 36 minutes along with high-impact defense. But he's struggling to find 20 minutes a night with three other productive players in the Jazz frontcourt. By sending Pierce to Utah, this would be a cold move by the Boston front office, but the Celtics should have an eye on the future given Rondo's injury and this could save them about $1.5 million if they want to eventually get under the tax.

The only way the Jazz think about this deal is if they are big on Bradley's potential ahead of Gordon Hayward and they believe that Enes Kanter has a brighter future than Favors. Though Pierce would be reunited with former teammate Al Jefferson in this scenario, it may not offset the lifestyle change of moving from Boston to Salt Lake. But would a healthy Mo Williams, Randy Foye, Pierce, Paul Millsap and Jefferson make some noise in the West? Maybe, but it's hard to justify Utah going all-in this season without a backcourt player to build around; Bradley is probably not that guy.

I still dont see where pierce fits in utahs roaster and future plans. And Bradly averages less than an assist a game might as well play burks at the guard. This trade is ridiculous id probly quit being a jazz fan if anything like this goes through.

So at the end the writer admits this deal is not a good idea for the Jazz yet he still proposes it.

Great Journalism, school did him well.

Barf, I think the only way we would send Favors is if we got Rondo in return and I still would not do that.
Ingles is cooked.

This was almost as good as the one where we trade Jefferson, Millsap, GS 1st AND Kanter for Pau Gasol and Kemba Walker.

....and that Charlotte would get Jefferson and Kanter in return for Walker.

Dude needs his head adjusted. However, I would do that deal right now if we swapped Jefferson for Favors.

I can see selling away Jefferson or any starter but any of the core would be stupid, not when they are potentially amazing.

Corbin blows my mind, same with the Jazz organization. I say get rid of all the starters and play are real future starters.

I am so tired of people that honestly think they're smarter and more equipped to run the Jazz than O'Connor and Lindsey. You want Favors and Kanter to play more? Guess what, we'd have NEITHER if O'Connor hadn't of traded Deron.

Yeah, let's just trade half the team to the lowest bidder after one big loss. Never mind building trade value by playing Sap and Jefferson and waiting until when teams are desperate...the trade deadline.

Good hell. Have some damn patience. It isn't NBA 2 effing k.

i could imagine a pierce/jefferson swap.

salary works, celtics could now blow up their team - maybe going for Paul/Howard in FA.

and it would be great to have Pierce playing for the jazz (we should also trade Marvin after that)

Lots of people seem to think that the Jazz should go after Pierce if the Celtics want to start rebuilding, Grantland's Zach Lowe also mentioned it in a recent article. I'd love to see Pierce in a Jazz uniform, even at his age and even if it still doesn't make this team a contender, but there's no way I'd want to give up Favors (or Hayward, or even Kanter) in a deal for him. If a deal centered around Big Al or Millsap could be worked then I'd be all for it but I'm not sure why the Celtics would do it in that case.

Stop putting them on a pedestal just because of their job title. I am smarter than both of them, and I would get the Jazz closer to a championship. But that's not their mandate, which is just to make money. What the Millers don't realize is the difference in profitability isn't THAT much if you took two years off to build a real championship core over the long term, but hey, hope that extra $5M over a 10 year period is worth depriving your fan base of a genuine contender. Screw the real fans, let them watch this sham of a team.

Looks like there's a big drive to get Insider Subscriptions up in New England.

I actually think the Celtics should trade Pierce and KG. The Clippers would give up Bledsoe for him I bet, the Lakers could swing a three way trade with Gasol going elsewhere and some young talent / picks going to Boston. You could get a lot of value there and really improve the Celtics rebuilding efforts.

The Jazz have no use for Pierce though. We'd be much better, but we're too young / bad to add a player like Pierce now imo.

You have good opinions, but you don't have the phone number of the other teams GM, you don't talk to agents, you don't know which players are crazy and which are sane.

Somehow I think if I were GM, I'd be able to get the phone number of other GMs and talk to agents. If I were afforded the opportunity to interview players, I think I could gauge their sanity fairly well also.

Presidential candidates don't have the numbers of other heads of state either, doesn't mean they can't be president. Those resources come with the job.

But you are making the assumption you can do better without knowing how you could use those resources.
