Kevin Garnett
Sorry to start a vulture thread, but I'm sure that Houston is going to come up quite a bit as a potential landing spot for Kevin Garnett if the Celtics decide to try to divest themselves of a few key players.
My question is how much would you be willing to give up for Garnett? His salary is between 11-12MM for the next few seasons. He would expire in the same season that Lin and Asik would expire.
Coming to play for McHale again may be one of the only situations where I could see KG waiving the no-trade clause, so that could help keep the price down if the C's try to move him.
DISCLAIMER - KG would not be a move that I'd want the Rockets to make unless it is one hell of a bargain. If we're going to move young assets during the season I'd prefer Millsap as a target (and yes, I feel unclean saying that).
Just trying to get a gauge from the Rockets Faithful as to what price - if any - would be acceptable to you.

Re: Kevin Garnett
I love that organization, but the Celtics have no assets that the Rockets need. Garnett also has 2 more years left in his contract and is currently 36. I'll pass.

I would love to have KG here, that would be awesome... but no way in hell Garnett would want to come here.
Boston without Rondo is still better than us.

Re: Kevin Garnett
I doubt we'd get him, because I don't see a potential deal to match his salary, and I'm not even sure what the Celtics are expecting for him; or if they are even shopping him at all....but I'd just like to say - even current KG is the absolute best fit in the entire NBA at our PF position (for the short term, obviously).
His ability to lock down the P&R, coupled w/ his passing ability and knockdown mid-range shot...damn.

Re: Kevin Garnett
Remember, we don't have to match salaries, as we are significantly under the cap. It can be an unbalanced trade from a monetary perspective.
I can handle giving up Mook, Patterson or anyone else, except for Harden, Judge, White LBJ, Delfino. Those 4 must stay in Houston.
No trade scenario works for Millsap, even if Utah pays us to take him!!!

Re: Kevin Garnett
If we could move Lin and Patterson for him, so we have cap space in the off season still I would be for it.
Lull / Beverly
Harden /
Parsons / Morris
Garnett / Dmo
Asik / Smith
That leaves us 15 million for an impact player.

At our worst, we're still on par with Boston. They aren't the same team from last year with or without Rondo.Zubby wrote:I would love to have KG here, that would be awesome... but no way in hell Garnett would want to come here.

So the Celtics need a PG? I suppose we can trade Beverly.

Re: Kevin Garnett
I used to like KG before he turned into a seething pit of rage.
He's still one of the best PFs to ever play, but I don't see how he'd fit into any kind of coherent strategy for the team over the next 2 years. He's a stopgap at best, a contract liability at worst, wouldn't be overly tradeable, and could very well get in the way of our getting a player we really needed.
While he'd be a great short term fit, long term strategy has to be given higher priority.
If we had a few more pieces, he'd definitely be worth considering as a piece to get us over the hump, though I'd hate to rely on a 37 year old for that.

Re: Kevin Garnett
Im all for it. Better than giving a max deal to Smith or Millsap. If Garnett doesnt work out, he wont be locked in for 4+ years.
Its a low risk/high reward deal IMO

Re: Kevin Garnett
I saw Lin pull up Al Jefferson after Jefferson fell down in the midst of a ball scramble that resulted in a jump ball between Lin and Jefferson. There was no great fan fair, just a pack on the backside, a smile and a nod between the two, and the play went on.
One of the most admirable things about Lin is that despite his circumstances, he has always played above the belt.
Much of what I like about this team is that I can enjoy indulging my adolescent idealism where nice, good guys can get ahead. Garnett's presence would eff with that. No thanks.

Re: Kevin Garnett
If BOS decides to blow it up their main concern would be getting rid of Garnett's salary without taking any big salaries back, and since we have the cap room we can facilitate that so in that case he could probably be had for almost nothing. Still though I don't see the point from HOU's perspective given that they don't expect to contend this season, and I believe Morey values that cap room more than Garnett at this point in his career.
