As a bucks fan, would u want ellis. I know that there was rumors of him straight up for gay before the start of last season.

What about:

Grizzlies get: Ellis/Davis
Bucks get: Calderon/Ross
Raptors get:Gay/Lamb

Well, they're clearly awesome players if they're important to a 16-29 team in the Eastern conference - and the Grizz would be foolish not to trade Gay for them and then bench Conley and Zbo to start them.

He's playing 25 mpg on a team with an injury depleted front court that's not competing for a playoff spot any more. No disrespect, but if he has this type of ceiling, why can't he gets more minutes in Toronto? What makes him any different than Darrell Arthur, Mo Speights, Taj Gibson, etc.?

The final hurdle for the salary dump of Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors hinges on finding a third team to absorb the expiring contract of Raptors guard Jose Calderon, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Rudy Gay is averaging 17.2 points and 5.9 boards this season. (USA Today Sports)The Grizzlies have inquired with multiple teams over the past several days, searching for a willing partner to facilitate a three-team deal, sources said.

Despite organizational proclamations to the contrary, new Memphis ownership and management is determined to unload Gay and the $37 million owed him as soon as possible, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Calderon has a $10.5 million expiring contract.

"With so many quality point guards, they're struggling to find a spot for Calderon," one league general manager told Yahoo! Sports.

Preferably, the Grizzlies want a less expensive small forward to plug into the lineup for Gay, sources said. Memphis has been relentless in shopping Gay over the past several weeks.

In a proposed deal, Memphis would likely receive another young Raptors player and a future draft pick, sources said. The Grizzlies have unsuccessfully tried to pry Raptors rookie Terrence Ross as part of the deal, sources said. Toronto has deemed Ross untouchable in these talks.

Beacause he's only 23yrs old and still a little thin. But as a starter the last month he's averaging 13ppg/8rpg/1blk and is shooting 56%. This kid is already a pretty good player but will only get better once he adds a little more weight. IMO he's a future 15ppg/10rpg/1.5blk player as a starter in the NBA.

Kleiza, Fields, Davis for Rudy Gay.

Gives you two looks at SF and a potential PF but no cap relief.

Do you all have any interest in Paul Pierce? He's come up a lot in Boston rumors as a Grizzlies' target.. and some of us are excited about the thought of moving him to Memphis and getting Ed Davis, Calderon's expiring, and maybe Ross or Derozan..

I don't understand how that would help us right now or in the future. I'd rather have Gay than Pierce if the goal is to contend in the playoffs. However, this last assumption is being called into question in light of our desperate attempts to move Gay and shed salary at all costs.

Owner what a heck is he thinking...I knew new Owner already annouced make new team just like GSW. this trade will effect our future for sure... I hope they will not trade Z-BO if he does our team is done little while

Pierce would rather retire than to play for another team. Also, Pierce would be a rental piece and that would not be fair as the Grizz would sacrifice their future at SF for a temp solution in Paul Pierce(inspite how good he is).

Grizz and Raptors agree to deal in principle according to ESPN

The Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors have agreed in principle on a trade that will send leading scorer Rudy Gay to the Raptors, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Grizzlies will acquire forward Ed Davis and veteran guard Jose Calderon from the Raptors and then move Calderon on to a third team to ultimately make this a three-team deal.

The Detroit Pistons, sources said, are one of the prime options to take on Calderon, having pursued the Spanish floor leader all season.

The Grizzlies want a small forward out of the trade and Detroit has two believed to be available: Tayshaun Prince and Corey Maggette. But Memphis, sources said, is talking to at least one other team about taking on Calderon and is expected to receive a second-round pick from Toronto as part of the deal.

The Raptors, sources said, are expected to take on Grizzlies reserve center Hamed Haddadi in addition to Gay.

The Dallas Mavericks are the other most likely landing spot for Calderon, but sources said Dallas is resistant to parting with Vince Carter, Memphis' prime target on the Mavs' roster.

I guess new owner like to saving the money as same as C lippers owner few years ago.
Robert Pera already said we need a perimeter jump shot player.

Why do this now? Why dick around with the team in the middle of the season? Either someone wanted to be moved, Hollins wanted someone gone, or the new ownership just doesn't GAF about continuity and just assumes that any form of "efficient" production from Rudy's spot will automatically make us a better team. That might be true assuming he continued to play at a career low efficiency, but I am not comfortable with the idea that Prince's corpse (along with some bench help and an increased role for Conley, Gasol and Randolph) is going to make us much better on offense.

I'm obviously pretty skeptical about the effectiveness of this trade. But I'm actually most pissed off about the message ownership is sending the fans right now considering they've basically just dumped a whole bunch of salary and totally busted up the squad right in the middle of our best season ever.

I actually love this deal for you guys. Prince is still efficient and a really solid defender & playmaker Don't forget, you guys beat the best teams in the league without Gay. Don't sleep on Hollinger!

Pistons fan here. I posted this on the Raptors board, and am reposting it here without editing. It's addressed to Toronto fans, but you'se guys are smart, and will get it!

This is a hard trade to get our minds wrapped around. Memphis got Tay, but I don't think they're going to love what they've got - he's not the same player he was during the first decade of his career. IMO, he's not a BB genius on the court consistent with his reputation. I thought any team with a front line of Gasol and Randolph had a chance, but trading their best scorer seems misplaced to me. Davis will add strength to their strength, but now they are very week at SF, and will have a hard time putting points on the board.

You guys ended up with the Gay who is very talented, but he's not max contract talented. I don't love the idea of building a team around a player who has too big a contract, unless he's an elite player. Gay isn't. Still, the idea of Lowry, Gay, Valanciunas, Amir, Ross (who I think can be pretty good in a couple years) -- that's kind of interesting. If Valunciunas does develop into one of the better centers, which I think he can - you guys have a really interesting roster, and a team that within a couple years can really start growing together with nice complimentary and serious talent.

The Pistons got exactly what they needed. We now have approximately 30 million in cap space, and we have an elite C and all-star caliber PF to build around. I've absolutely no idea whether the Pistons will re-sign Calderon, or whether they even care. We've got a bunch of players to evaluate (Calderon, Knight, Stuckey, English, Singler, Middleton, JJ, and Kravstov). Singler is a player - no question, and watch for Kravstov - that guy is going to be a really good backup center. Knight? I'm not sure. If the Pistons are moving him to SG, that decreases his value IMO. So, who will be the guys around the core power players - no idea, but getting rid of the slow, plodding, old roadblock that was Tay, and now having an obscene amount of cap space to facilitate trades, and this team could build up incredibly quickly.
