Is Sap or Al worth more in S&T than Expiring?

Post#1 » by SoCalJazzFan » Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:53 pm

Many of us have been focused on what the Jazz could get for a 1/2 season, expiring Sap (mainly) or Al. However, couldn't the Jazz possibly not trade Sap or Al and instead do a sign and trade with another team this summer (still could only afford 1 expensive player coming back)? This could be a way for the player to get a longer/bigger contract and do the team a favor on the way out as a thank you for treating me so well.

If this is the scenario, do the teams and players expand from what they are now, and who could they be?

S&T are as easy anymore. Teams over the CAP are not allowed to do them. There are more restrictions in the new CBA,

I don't think anything kicks in until 3 years after CBA, and I believe that it only limits teams that are so many millions over the tax threshhold, not the cap.

This is from Larry Coon's FAQ:
Starting in 2013-14, the team receiving the player cannot be above the "apron" ($4 million above the tax level) after the trade.

Starting in 2013-14, the team cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade if they have used the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception that season.

so S&T is still possible this season without those restrictions, which come into play NEXT year.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

During the season it would be an extend and trade which was eliminated in this CBA, The S&T rules in this CBA begin when this season ends.

thank for the info

do you have a link to this info (besides larry coon's cba faq)?

does anyone have a link to the NEW CBA (not the one from 2005 which you can find in the nbpa website)? and i mean the FULL NEW CBA and not just the few pages that were linked to the media during the lockout when they came to an agreement.

I don't think it has been posted yet. It will be on the union web set eventually.
