Tough loss with Dorsey. We have lost alot of good front office personnel in the past few years and Dorsey has been a constant for the last 20 years pretty much.

I don't know what to think of Eliot Wolf. He's climbed the charts pretty quick, has the namesakes, but is young & don't really know his role in the Pack's success. I assume he has an eye for talent as he's been involved since a kid and has a good mentor.

And I believe Ron Wolf is signed on with San Diego Chargers, so wonder if Eliot at some point jumps ship over there. But I do think at this point him and Alonzo Highsmith are the highest ranking personnel guys under Ted and Ted may retire in the next 5 years, so maybe he sticks around.

I assume Wolf is a consultant for San Diego? Doubt Eliot would take a job in SD just because his old man is a consultant. Wolf has been a consultant before, it's not really a big deal.

It will be interesting what the long term plan is. Thompson is 60 and I have no idea how long he plans to stay. Wolf was 61 when he left. I would think/hope they will groom someone to take over but that's what many thought would happen when Harlan left but then there was the whole John Jones thing and they finally went outside to get Murphy.

Probably not, but San Diego just had a bunch of front office changes and there may have been a fit for a promotion for Eliot that Ron could've helped him get into. Obviously nothing has happened but my point wasn't that he'd follow his dad, but it was his dad went to a place where a bunch of front office position came open, which may peak Eliot's interest if he could even be the Assistant GM.

He could very well step down and take a lesser role somewhere. I'm guessing he's made friends within the business that he could travel with, etc. I wouldn't be shocked if he steps away in the next 5 years and does so abruptly. Behind the scenes he may work on a exit strategy, but could really see it not play out in public.

I agree. I think internally Highsmith and Wolf would be the top 2 candidates. But even in 5 years, Wolf is only 35 years old, which is still young albeit not as uncommon. Plus who knows if he'd even want the GM job assuming he's confident he can get one elsewhere --- I mean he may want to create his own identity elsewhere instead of in the shadow of his dad here.

Externally if Seattle continues to have success I would maybe pony up to lure John Schneider back home. Groomed by the current regime and organization. So far is having success out in Seattle.

Of Dorsey Schneider McKenzie, Schneider was the one who came up w/ the most trade ideas & worked the phones the most. In an interview at time Seattle hired Schneider, TT said that and also that he himself rarely ever sugggested or initiated a trade proposal. Believable per Moss, Lynch,& how many others we never heard about. I wish TT had listened to Schneider more.

New Orleans - Ray Lewis' name already had been written on the Green Bay Packers' card at National Football League draft headquarters in New York late on the afternoon of April 20, 1996.

One of the Packers' representatives was on the telephone with Lewis as the clock wound down on Baltimore's selection with the 26th pick of the first round.

The Packers were telling the 20-year-old linebacker from the University of Miami just to stay calm.

They informed Lewis there was no way Baltimore (the former Browns had yet to pick a nickname) would take a linebacker, and that he'd be joining Brett Favre and a team favored to win the Super Bowl in a matter of moments with their 27th choice.

Then Commissioner Paul Tagliabue stepped to the podium and announced that Lewis would be playing for Baltimore.

"That's what happened," John Dorsey, a Packers executive in personnel for 22 years, said Wednesday. "You never know."

The soon-to-be Ravens got an all-time great. The Packers got tackle John Michels.

General manager Ron Wolf would say a few minutes later that he had targeted Michels, the one-year starter at Southern California, for months. In truth, Dorsey said Wolf was just hiding his disappointment and trying to protect Michels.

"Ray Lewis was 'Wolfie's' guy all the way," said Dorsey, who was named GM of the Kansas City Chiefs three weeks ago. "It would have been a hell of a pick."
