Anyone can give me the inside story on what really WAS wrong with Amar'e's knee?

What's the debridement have to do with the cyst? Is he on borrowed time like B-Roy? Has any doctor said he's bone on bone or anything like that?

I guess there's some arthritis but that term, by itself, doesn't mean that much.

if u knew the game of basketball then you'd know it makes no sense to dump one of the teams best players in the middle of a title chase. It also makes no sense to trade the teams only post scorer/ shot blocker for two players who make the teams defense even worse and do nothing but shoot jumpers.

KG - that is a legit question. SOMETHING is fishy here in that the org is being EXTREMELY cautious with him. I don't know if anyone knows outside of the org but I agree that it can't just be the cyst. I think they did something else while they were in there looking at the cyst.

When we got Amar'e there was a lot of talk about him needing to go back under the knife in a few years to redo the microfracture procedure and that he would be out for awhile as a result. I wonder if they didn't do some precautionary reconstructive type surgery while they were in there.

It doesn't make sense that all of a sudden he has these huge minutes reductions whereas at the beginning of the season he had none.

Watching Stat I seriously doubt his condition being anywhere near as bad as Roy. Roy at some point started to physically break down...Stat looks more mobile and active than last season.

My theory is, his knee complication in the summer was caused by his learning and using low-post moves, which absolutely foreign to his body that was used more to face-up running game. When you are not good at it yet but want to succeed already on the top competitive level, you often hurt yourself trying because your body is not well conditioned on such usage. So, it's not directly related to his microfracture surgery of 2005. Note both Kidd and Randolph had the same surgery a couple years earlier than Amare with no lingering effect whatsoever.

A debridement is teh cleaning of dead tissue, and extra particles . STAT surgery wasnt a repair it was a clean up. And it was a result of Copeland hitting STAT in the knee.

Amare said that the cyst rupture cause tissues to be damaged and had loose particles in his knee.

So in essence Amare's knees are still in good condition fron the microfracture. Unnamed doctors are spreading the demise of his knees in reports a few months back. But Amare's long time knee doctore said that his knees were fine.

Good input. Thanx.

Blu - are you saying that there were some unrelated docs spreading rumors at the time of the Amare signing? Because that's when I remember the reports from.

I was wrong on this one.

Over the summer and early in the season I was one of the most vocal and ardent posters who desperately wanted to trade Amare. I wanted him gone before the injury, and the injury only emboldened me into being more vehement that Amare was done as a player.

I think what surprises me most about Amare coming back and playing so far is how selfless he's been as a player.

Remember when Amare had like 8 games scoring 30pts or more? And he was just bulldozing into guys 3on1 half the time into the paint? Times have changed and so has Amare. I just couldnt foresee this. He's simply been spectacular.

Only Woodson could figure out that Amare-Chandler-Melo could work, but only if Amare had a post game.

I've seen more improvement out of Amare's hustle, rebounding, defense, and awareness in these two weeks than I think 2 years combined prior. Clearly this is not the same player that we've grown accustom to seeing.

I was wrong on Amare, and I guess it's better to get it out now than later.

Just don't expect one for Shumpert next though.

I was talking about the negative reports when he got injured this year.

Microfracture scares people. But his knees are not degenerating. They are just different. But other than his inury with Copeland, STAT has never sat out because of his knees, never any news of soreness, never sat out games for "rest". Sure you gotta take care of his knees but its not breaking down like the media and people here say they are.

I remeber you changing your tune about STAT before he came back.

Shump will be fine. He had a great 2nd half. He is still rusty, I think Shump forgot how Shump himself played intensely last year.

Woody has his faults but his greatest attribute is getting on his players an sending the message home. Shump had one bad play and Woody sat him. Since Tyson got picked as an All-Star, Woody told him to play like it. Told STAT to improve defense and get a post game.

Woody loves Shump but is also hard on him. Shump will turnaround. Shump help shut down Jennings.

Those reports came from the Phoenix Suns camp (and Steve Kerr on telecasts). If untrue, it could have been damage control to quel a potential PR nightmare by letting him walk to NY in 2010 without matching the Knicks offer because the Suns wouldn't go the full max for guaranteed years at that dollar figure. So they put out word that they had concerns his knees wouldn't last the life of the contract and it was perceived to be true when insurance companies would not insure Stat's knee over the life of the contract.

You're setting yourself up to eat some serious crow with that one. The kid is barely 22 and not yet a finished product. Just look at how he responded from the 1st half to the 2nd half of the Bucks game. He's learning and will only get better but all the physical tools are already there.
