First if I remember Blair measured 6'6.5 in shoes when he was drafted if we are actually trying to be accurate. How tall he is barefoot IDK. And to answer your question... the same reason you should target someone overseas for the 5 spot.

Jefferson is pretty nice offensively and pretty bad defensively. He's bounced around and if he is the best player on a given team... that team is likely pretty average.

Max money... near max money... in todays CBA.... giving that to Jefferson... all but guarantees mediocrity.

Adrien already does just about everything Blair would give us and he actually has ACLs.

I disagree. Blair is much better player than Adrien, but I can see the comparison. Both are undersized and do well on the boards, but Blair is much better offensively and has great touch. I would not count on signing him, but if we end up missing on the big names he could be a nice fit for us if he came reasonably.

When given minutes Dejuan has had some big games this year including one big one recently against dallas. From a non-homer point of view it is something Adrien just hasn't shown in his game.

Blair signed to the right deal then becomes a pretty nice trade chip because he'd get at least 25-30 minutes a night. Jefferson becomes a strain on the team and a contract that you can't move. We are talking about an asset on a friendly contract versus pouring it all into Jefferson. Tomic and Bourousis got a good Jumper so they fit alongside Blairs thick frame pounding it on the block.

No to Blair. Why Cha_77_bobcats just told you. No to a European center. Why? Maybe you haven't noticed this, but they don't generally fair well in the nba. What have we had? Maybe four successful European centers in the nba? I don't think that anyone has suggested that we throw a max contract at Jefferson, but if we do so there is something you might want to know. HE IS A 17 AND 10 CENTER! If you don't want to throw max money at a near 20 and 10 guy who would you want to throw it at? Al is not going to make us mediocre? Right now we are one of the worst teams in the league as good as he is Al is not going to make us a 6-8 seed. We will still have a lottory pick the next two years at least.

If you are ignorant of the names I mentioned throwing out the well European bigs don't work here argument doesn't cut it... as if playing in Europe means you won't make it in the NBA so why bother paying attention to EuroLeague.

Dirk, Sabonis, Dino, Smits, Divac, Ibaka, even Krstic just off the top of my head given ten seconds of half way intelligent thought.

Loyalty thats called, he gets a home and worst case he gets traded he basically becomes a max player.

we can only offer 4 year deals to free agents from other teams.

http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_n ... gents.html

i meant to post this yesterday when i got my season ticker renewal e-mail from rod. the part about free agents was interesting

But here’s a specific from Higgins’ email regarding the salary cap and free-agency that I found interesting: Higgins said this summer the Bobcats should have “upwards of $20 million to spend on players,’’ offering the chance to “add the best free agents possible, including max-level players that may be available.’’

Is Krstic ever going to make an NBA comeback? He was solid with the Thunder.

That would get us to about 22-23 under I think.

I really hope we aren't going after Andrew Bynum. I can't think of anyone else that could sign anywhere close to 20M.

Based on the notes I took last week in the OT thread, right now we've only used about half the cap for next year. However that's before rookies, options, and assuming we let the FAs walk. Gordon will no doubt exercise his option though, and I assume we decline Warrick's and bring back Rocky. That would put us at about 40.9 of a 58-60 cap without even using amnesty.

I know it sucks but we got to tank again one final year next year because the reward significantly outweighs adding a max free agent this offseason. This team needs Parker or Wiggins, we can't be another Milwaukee or Toronto and meddle around 9th-7th place in the East

I agree, but it's hard to turn down Al Jefferson if comes in and says "Hey I'll sign with you guys for $12M a year." We'd have to do some pretty blatant tanking and we could have three picks in 2014. Portland and Detroit will likely both make the playoffs in 2014 and both picks could be packaged with our own to nail down a top 3 pick.

How much money do you think J.J. Redick is going to get thrown at him this offseason?

If we end up going big in the draft, could he be a FA target? He's arguably a better player than Hendo and he would be a much better fit for this team. Plus he's slightly underrated, at least enough where he might not break the bank. I would imagine he would cost a little more than Hendo but not nearly as much as someone like OJ Mayo.

Then again, would he even want to come here? Doesn't he get boo'd like crazy whenever he plays in Charlotte? I doubt that happens in any other city he plays in.

Hendo never has - and not only did he play for Duke he tried to rearrange a Tar Heels face.

Fats- here's my unofficial math and I assumed a flat cap next year. ( So if the cap is flat, in order to get to around 20M, we would need to renounce Hendo & Mully and not guarantee Jeff Adrien)

2013-14
Ben Gordon- 13,200,000
Tyrus Thomas- 8,694,215
Ramon Sessions- 5,000,000
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist- 4,809,840
Hakim Warrick- 4,000,000
Bismack Biyombo- 3,049,920
Kemba Walker- 2,568,360
Brendan Haywood- 1,900,000
Jeffrey Taylor- 788,872
CHARLOTTE TOTALS- 44,011,207

Hakim (TO) (4,000,000)
Amnesty Tyrus Thomas (8,694,215)

Adj CHARLOTTE TOTALS- 31,316,992

+ QO- Gerald Henderson- 4,267,424
+ QO- B.J. Mullens- 3,293,975
+ TO- Jeff Adrien-916,099
+ Our 1st round pick # 1 OA-5,144,280
+ PDX Pick #14 OA-1,823,280

Adjusted Total- 46,762,050

2012-2013 Cap $ 58,004,000
2012-2013 Luxury Tax Lvl $ 70,300,000

More than I'm willing to pay him.

Would much rather go after Lamb.

Redick is a little older than I thought he was. He'll be 29 at the start of next season.

Yeah, I'll pass. He'll more than likely be on a contending team next season.

I'm starting to give up hope for a possible trade that would land us Jeremy Lamb. The Thunder seem a little arrogant or complacent with their success.
