Re: Dario Saric - The Next Big Thing
I would actually say he's a very good athlete for the PF position, above average actually. Very few power forward in the NBA has that kind of fluidity, and probably non has his ball-handling, he won't jump out of the gym, but that's one of the most overrated physical skill imo. Probably the most overrated. He's fast for a PF, and very, very fluid. That's what is the most important thing. He's still a tweener at the moment, but i see no reason why he shouldn't be a full-time PF in the NBA once he fills out. I think his ceiling is very high, he could very vell turn out to be Diaw on steroids. (Diaw in his best seasons was a near all-star caliber player).

What's Saric's contract status?

So, he can be bought out immediately, or is the buyout at a later point in his contract, a la Mirotic, Rubio, etc.?

Re: Dario Saric - The Next Big Thing
from what i understand he has a buyout every yr that isnt fixed. his buyout would be determined by his rookie contract. he could come over after every yr, but he says that he would only declare (this yr at least) if he's a top 10 pick.

Over Kwame, who was supposed to be better than D-Rob?
Over Oden, who was supposed to be a D-Rob/Bill Russell cross?
Sabonis was not only "supposed to be better than D-Rob", he WAS better than D-Rob!
Most people don't realize just how sick Sabonis was. D-Rob was really great in his prime, I always liked him, but Sabonis was on another level. The only 2 centers as of late that compare to Sabonis are Hakeem & Shaq in their PRIMES. That's how sick Sabonis was.
He could do it all. Great low post scorer, probably the best passing big ever, very strong & athletic, very mobile, great shooting touch and also a great rebounder (his rebounding is underrated; for the Blazers he averaged 8 per game in only 25 minutes, all while being basically totally broken down).
All at 7'3!!
When I think of top centers, I think of a group Russell, Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq, Wilt and Sabonis!
Btw., Sabonis at 18 (actually I think he might have been 17 at that time):

Keep in mind that that's early 80s where training techniques were different. Had he been a subject of todays training, his athleticism would be even better! (the same as you can't compare for example Wilt Chamberlain to todays athleticism)
I agree with the statement what he would have pretty much been a lock every year except for 03.
David Robinson is a BETTER overall player than Shaquille Oneal.
Name each trait of basketball and Robinson will be ahead of Shaq.... Shaq's size and explosiveness made him effective. Robinson was more versatile and more athletic...
Shaq's 2000-2001 season is over rated because he was technically the only center on his prime..... everyone else has declined or declining.
To me, Shaq and Robinson arent too far apart. Robinson is better defender and as good offensively as Shaq... Shaq was just bigger (fatter) and no one could physically stop him due to his 300+ pound body.

How is this guy not a top 10 pick in this draft. Can play inside or out, awesome passer, good rebounder. What are his major weaknesses?

he's in b/t positions, athleticism, shooting, body strength, is TO prone.
i read that if he's not projected top 10 then he won't declare this yr.

why is he any less athletic then AK47/Gallo/Hedo?

If he's not top-10 this year I really doubt he'd be top-10 next year. He's a late-lotto guy IMO.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt

well he is less athletic than AK. similar athleticism as the other 2, but i think he'd have trouble playing in space like gallo or younger hedo any time soon because of his jumper.
in any case, i don't think he's in any rush to come to the nba.

Some Saric from first quater against his former team in Croatian cup quaterfinals. He had 17pts, 8rb, 10 asists. On bad side he had 10TO.

He was mostley playing as PG since Smush Parker was only avaible PG left for that game. Not easy job for 6'10 18 year old
but you can count down 3 of those turnowrs as his teamates were to surprised with his asists

I like him more as an PF prospect. He lacks quickness to play the 3.

Agree. And he seems to be commited to that route too since he bulked up significantly last summer.
After all he already rarely defended the oposing SFs even when he was younger and leaner.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Re: Dario Saric - The Next Big Thing
Won his first senior title. Cibona beat Cedeviata 77-76 in Croatian cup finals.
oce again title game was best of what he played this season, and for moment probably best game at high level. 7 points, 14 rebounds, 6 asists, 3 blocks and lock down defense. tough strugled from FT line and finishing in trafic
he was good in semifinals as well. 8points, 9 rebounds, 3 asists and 5 steals

Re: Dario Saric - The Next Big Thing
Any update on this guy?
I read in this thread that he won't come over unless he's picked top 10...well, with the way this draft is shaping up, he might just have a legit chance to be picked top 10.
He's very skilled, that's for sure.
