Cant blame the guy Philbin not MM was the reason for our offense being so good.
Despite the fact that our offense was still damn good this year even with a lot of injuries at WR and an unstable line and that MM ran some killer offenses with scrub quarterbacks when he was in NO as offensive coordinator and tons of people around the league calling MM borderline genius on offensive play design.
I know we all have our issues with him from time to time but MM is a very smart offensive coach and you are selling him way short.
His argument is moronic considering all the issues we had to deal with on offense compared to the previous season. Jennings was never healthy and started only 5 games. Jordy played on only 53% of the offensive snaps. Those two things alone are enough to knock us down dramatically offensively. Our leading WR was our slot guy, Cobb, who finished with 80 receptions for 954 yards and a YPC average of only 11.9. The previous season we had Jordy at 68/1263 with a YPC of 18.6 along with Jennings (in 13 games) with 67/949 with a 14.2 YPC.
Beyond that, we started 5 different players at HB. We finished the season starting Ryan Grant, a vet who had been sitting at home all year, and DuJuan Harris, a young player who had played himself out of the league and was selling cars. The previous season we were able to split carries between Starks and Grant.
We also had to shuffle our OL after Bulaga went down before settling on a UFA at RT.
I was a fan of Philbin. He is a very intelligent offensive mind. I always enjoyed watching the videos on Packers.com with him discussing things with the media. Still, thinking that he was the man behind our offense is absurd. As you mentioned, McCarthy was the OC for a NO team that led the NFC in scoring with Aaron freakin Brooks at QB.
Things were not pretty this year roster wise on offense, but we still finished 5th in scoring at 27.1 PPG.
