Blue Jays State of the Union TUES FEB 5th

Post#1 » by J-Roc » Mon Feb 4, 2013 10:47 pm

So tomorrow is the state of the union, where season ticket holders get to ask questions to management. It's so odd to not have anything negative to ask. lol

But even still, I'd like to ask for suggestions of questions of what to ask. Also, who else here is going? And what's a verbal sign RealGMers can use when asking a question, as an inside joke so we know it's a fellow RealGMer.

"Is payroll set for the season, or will the organization be willing to spend more at the Trade Deadline if the BJs are in the hunt?"

I would have a 2 part question.

How much have the Jays made in merch sales since switching to the new logo? And if it continues this year with an increase in attendance will you acquire someone else near the deadline.

Ask something like this:

"If an opportunity came up and you had to add maybe another 10-15 mill on the payroll, would you be able to do it?"

Interesting questions. Seems the angle is to find out if they'll spend more. But I suspect those are leading questions they can only answer by saying yes they'll spend more.

I was thinking something about how should we explain to our kids why Melke Cabrera was suspended last season. lol

Any other questions? And where are the other STH's?

I would ask what the Jays are planning to do with backloaded contracts, and if they have some kind of budget cuts in the plans since everybody has huge salary increases in the near future.

Ask why Lind is still on the team and why he hasn't been platooned yet after three seasons of failing against lefties terribly.

Who's going to be Jerry Howarth's co-pilot this year?

That's an interesting angle. Sure Beeston would say money is no object, but he might break a sweat at least.

I was thinking the same. I really wonder if they'll increase payroll any further. Reyes' contract goes up by $6 million in 2014 and another $6 million in 2015. I guess Johnson's in his last year and scheduled to make $13.75 million, so letting him walk might keep things in check.

Do you always give Sandy Alderson EVERYTHING he asks for?

Yeah, I'm sure he'll never get over giving up a few unproven prospects to add three years of RA Dickey to a World Series contender. Probably cries himself to sleep over the loss of d'Arnaud and the lottery tickets.

I'd imagine there are a lot of new season ticket holders this year.

Oh and it doesn't have to be JRoc, but I really do hope somebody asks my Lind question (or some kind of variance involving Lind). Nobody needs to see that guy flail against lefties for a 4th consecutive year especially with a lot on the line. I want action. :)

The office got seasons tickets, first time ever. We split with a few other companies, so we get four seats, 20 games. But damn, I may get booked up with meetings and not be able to make it down tonight. But I'll pass these questions on to the guys who go.

But I'm surprised no one else from here is going. Heck some people here pay more money for seasons tickets to the Raptors.

What site do you guys use for salaries, the way shamsports shows year over year committed contracts?

Cot's: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compe ... blue-jays/

And I'd ask something STH related, like an estimate on attendance needed to cover the new spending. How can we as fans ensure future spending equal or greater to this year's budget? How many friends do I have to convince to buy tickets (not quite like that 'cause now we're sounding like a pyramid scheme)...

No chance you get a useful answer, but we already know the useful answers that they will give.

Only other thing is a timeframe for a new stadium. How long do they think stadiums last? We know Skydome isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but when can we start the conversation at least? 10 years? more?
