NFL Releases/Cuts

Post#1 » by BIGGIEsmalls 23 » Mon Feb 4, 2013 11:04 pm

It looks like Titus Young is the first major casualty:

The Detroit Lions have parted ways with troubled wide receiver Titus Young.

Young, a second-round draft pick in 2011, has been disciplined multiple times in the past 12 months. Most recently, Young was told to stay away from the team facility because he intentionally lined up wrong in a Week 14 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Young tweeted in January that he preferred to be released if the Lions weren't going to include him in their future plans.

After lashing out on Twitter earlier in January when he threatened to never play football again, Young directed more thoughts at the team about his unhappiness.

"Oh I'm not done, if y'all going to cut me let me go. I'm tired of the threats," Young tweeted.

Young shortly followed with a another tweet that stated: "Never needed the money Give me a dollar and a ball bet I come back #HallofFame"

And again, Titus Young's red flags were there for all to see. Lions knew risk they were taking when they drafted him: http://t.co/QESqJYcX

Smart move. Lions would do well to get rid of the head cases that litter their roster. Team has too much talent to be the tied for worst team in the NFC.

I wouldn't touch Young if I were a GM. But, inevitably, someone will pick him up for a pittance and hope they can turn him into a productive wideout.

Also, apparently he thinks he's better than Megatron...

E.C. Robinson, Young's high school coach, said Young came to his house on Christmas and the two talked about his problems with the Lions.

"He did tell me he thought he was just as good Megatron," Robinson recalled late last month. "I said, 'Titus, come on.' I said, 'Come on, man. Who you talking to?' I said, 'Come on, you're as good as that guy? This guy is the real deal.' And he really believes this. And he was sincere about it. 'Ah man, I'm better than him.' I said, 'No, you're not. Be real, man. Come on.' So I don't know, I'm hoping for the best for him."

 He's nowhere near the WR that Megatron is. Like Peanut Tillman said, Calvin Johnson is the Lebron James of the NFL. He's a BEAST.

Another casualty below:

Adam Caplan@caplannfl
The Steelers actually waived RB Chris Rainey on Monday, so he's eligible to be claimed off waivers at 4 p.m. ET today.

Lions will release OG Stephen Peterman today, per a person familiar with the decision. Peterman started every game at RG the last 3 years

Adam Caplan@caplannfl
On Mon: DT Ron Brace (Pats), RB Brandon Jacobs/K Billy Cundiff (49ers), and CB LeQuan Lewis (Bucs) all passed through waivers unclaimed.

No surprises re: the Niners guys. As soon as we find a replacement kicker, I expect Akers will be cut as well.

Akers will more than likely be cut after the Niners draft and/or sign kickers this summer.

I'm a little upset about Boley being cut, but there's not much I can do.

Titus young aint a problem. Just gotta know how to handle those types of players. Coaches cant be those friend type coaches. You gotta lay down the freakin law, and then have some good assistants to coach 'em up

lol @ Titus Young thinking he's better than Megatron, he does have talent though. Not a bad pick up for St. Louis.

A good move for the Rams. Hopefully Fisher can control him and get the most out his talents. He could have a big year.

I just got an ESPN alert saying the Giants have cut Ahmad Bradshaw.

I'm pretty mad about this one.

I know he's relatively injury prone, but that man performed when he had the ball in his hands this season. I would have given him one more year with David Wilson as his understudy and then parted ways.

Ugh...

Wow. That's a surprising cut. They also released Canty:

I'm not surprised Bradshaw got cut, he was always hurt and playing with 2 bad feet. I loved his heart though. I'll miss him in Big Blue.

Cutting Canty makes sense. I didn't really like the signing that much when he came from Dallas. He made a few plays, but I have confidence in the Giants and Jerry Reese's drafting abilities.

I have no clue where this team will be going in free agency.

Giants have a knack for finding defensive linemen, so I think they'll be fine without Canty.
