NBA.com: Mitch wanted Adelman to replace Phil

Post#1 » by Slava » Tue Feb 5, 2013 9:08 pm

Keep in mind, Kupchak's choice to fill Jackson's chair in 2011 was Rick Adelman, but he got overruled by Jim Buss, the team's executive VP of basketball operations and son of owner Jerry. His might or might not be the final word on transactions in the next couple of weeks either.

What's his source? I figured something this big would've reared its ugly head a long time ago.

Well now we know who was against Adelman... both Jim and Jerry Buss.

Because they've all said that they make decisions together .

exactly.

and as far as apologists go, i don't know of anyone that has ever apologized for him. all i know is of those who are sick of jim getting the blame and jerry getting nothing praise when jerry still has the final say in things, to which i happen to be one of them. people need to get their blame game in check if they want to start dishing out faults.

And?

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said of Jim before this season: “He's gradually taken the place of his dad so it's almost been a complete transition, really.” - Link

We all know who has the most pull with Jerry. Also, the coaching hires have been what has ticked off most Lakers fans. I think we all agree on how great of a job they've done to put talent on the floor.

so? that absolves jerry of blame? you're admitting jerry knows about what's going on and could put a stop to it if he saw fit, yet you're still singling out jim because he has "pull"? who is jim pulling? because that person deserves the blame right along with him.

Yeah that link doesn't mean anything because I can find numerous that say that Mitch, Jim, and Jerry make organizational decisions together. But I don't need to because you already know it. Everytime there's a tidbit of info that comes out about a decision people just forget what the hell Kupchak and Buss have told them about the way they handle business... they always include Dr. Buss. Always, always, always. And this just means that both Jim and Dr. Buss were against Adelman. They wanted a player's coach.

Reading is fundamental. Read the Mitch Kupchak quote again, destro. Jerry has been in and out of hospital rooms for months now. Even with all the money in the world, and advancements in modern medicine, even Jerry knows he won't live forever. He's letting Jim learn more and more on his own now and instilling confidence and trust in him. That's not to say he doesn't think Jim is invincible to making mistakes, but that's part of becoming the head of anything. You live, you make mistakes, you learn.

If it makes you feel better, yes Jerry deserves some blame, but not as much as Jim. Again, this just pertains to the coaching hirings as he has done a good job with assembling the roster.

if reading truly is fundamental then maybe you need to heed your own advice and read up about how jerry buss wanted showtime, thus wanted d'antoni. the very thing you're trying to separate from the assembly of the roster he also had a hand in.

then you should've said that in your original post.

Any quotes from Jerry saying that? Perhaps I missed that.

I'm glad you feel better.

lol is there any quotes from jerry. lol this guy.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... re_DAntoni
The decision to bypass Phil Jackson and hire Mike D’Antoni came from Los Angeles Lakers patriarch Jerry Buss, according to a source.

The elder Buss is no longer involved in day-to-day affairs and has transferred many of his former responsibilities to his son, Jim.

"Make no mistake about it, Jerry Buss made the final call on firing Mike Brown, passing over Jackson and ultimately deciding on D'Antoni," confirmed an NBA source who requested anonymity. "The management structure is a democracy up to a certain point; but when something very big comes up, Jerry makes the decision.

"That's not to say he overrules his guys all the time -- he doesn't. But if he disagrees, he uses his veto power to do what is in the best interests of his organization. He's overruled Kupchak and he even went against Jerry West sometimes. They would have animated discussions, and Dr. Buss would listen, then sometimes do what he wanted."

this should be all you need, and sums up everything this go around is about.

there's no telling how many times you hit the refresh button waiting on a post. because literally a few seconds after i hit send there's a reply from you. man you're dedicated to your hate even though you're not clear on what needs to be hated on.

if that there and the media saying jerry still has final say and wanted d'antoni then there's obviously no hope for you whatsoever, like there's no need in trying. because obviously tycobb knows more than all of the above.

I wanted Adelman as well.

Minge wrote:Initially, thought that Mike D’Antoni was brought in to raise the value of otherwise untradeable players. Artest. Blake. Duhon. He addressed that in his presser as that was his job in New York. I second guessed the Josh Smith rumor. I’ve never been a fan of his game but he would make Dwight Howard’s job easier defending pick and rolls…

However, two years ago, I think the front office screwed up by not signing Rick Adelman. This team has the personnel to run the Princeton. You can even assign positions based on that 2002 Sacramento team; Bibby – Nash, Peja – Bryant, Webber – Howard, Vlade – Gasol, et cetera.

You used an unnamed source as if that's some credible evidence.

So basically Dr. Buss agreed with Jim that Adelman wasn't right. Pretty what I said from the start.

Makes sense. This is a team with Kobe Bryant on it... it's a team that needs a player's coach. D'antoni wasn't available at the time. Mike Brown was. " Mike Brown it is. " And signing D'antoni is a damn good choice because players want to play in D'antoni's system.

So if you have major cap space coming + Steve Nash + D'antoni + you're in LA and you're the Lakers... you should have a few free agents interested in joining ( even veterans on 1yr deals if needed ). Now what you do after you get the free agents in... who knows?... Make a Mike Woodson like hire to focus on some defense like the Knicks?

the fact that everything points to jerry at the least signing off on the d'antoni hire and you denying all of it is really funny, like i really hope you take time to read how hard you're denying what is the truth. and it's that same mentality that a large majority of this fanbase holds, the refusal to believe that jerry buss can do any wrong.

but everything is going to be alright, i assure you. it's okay jerry and jim have let us down, we're going to get through these dark times together, tycobb.

i don't know about adelman, but he agreed with jim that d'antoni was the right choice. at least you can see they're one and the same. i don't have a problem with handing out blame, but if it's going to be done then all parties need a slice of the cake. not just the party you want to hold responsible.
